Whoa, 2nd episode and already 1/3 of the family killers killed by the MC! Damn! I wonder if it was Nero or Vanno who failed to shot Angelo dead that night. Fango's like a cockroach though, survives everything and escapes everything. xD

Looks like this war might not end with the Vanettis though, especially since Orcos had their hands in that murder as well. And who knows about how the Galassis are involved in all this.

A tale of warring families, and an attempt at reconciliation through marriage, but revenge runs deep.

OK, so at one point I was thinking "My name is Angelo Laguza, you killed my father, prepare to die".

Great episode, really this is shaping up to be a really good straight-up Mafia revenge vendetta drama series. Admittedly as a theme goes it's a well trodden path in movies and TV shows, but not so much in anime, so it's very welcome.

This is shaping up really well.

The more I listen to that OP song, the more I like it now.

Definitely the revenge drama series that I was expecting especially the second half this week. Avilio is quite a character as I feel like he's more of a guy that does talking with action rather than non-violent means. (not necessarily a bad guy but just seeking revenge) I got a feeling we'll be getting a lot of cliffhangers in this show but that's what will make the series interesting.

It's only the second episode and he has already taken out one of the killers. Now only two more to go. Avilio has landed himself in trouble though. Even if he gets out of this though, the other families could get involved and make things more difficult for him.

I really like the OP for this show.

Now I'm impressed, a revenge quest that might actually follow through instead of the usual 'hurr durr revenge is bad' so prevalent in other works.

Angelo actions are worrying though, he could end uniting the families against him.

Episode 2
Finally I figured out what is bugging me with this show.

Well first of all the good.
  • The MC is ruthless as all hell and it is so damn fun to watch
  • The show is still devoid of anime tropes that it feels great. It sticks by the mafia narrative and feels more like a genuine mafia movie than anime.

Bu the problems that I could not put my finger on in first ep really are felt in this one.
  • I find it hard to care about the MC. Sure his revenge wish and all is interesting as are the lengths he goes for that. But there's nothing else. Show some flashbacks to his happier days, give characterization to his family via them. Do something to make us feel what he feels and to make us care for him as a person..
  • The setting is so underused. For example Baccano was IN LOVE with it's setting. It fully embraced the full-crazy of retro-american-mafia hijinks and all that that era had to offer. Even in Godfather, there's a certain melancholy surrounding the passing of the eras and stuff. In all of those things the setting and the atmosphere it creates was almost a character of its own. In 91 Days the setting is just there? Its a necessity to tell the mafia story and creators don't seem to be that interested to see the life of such times beyond what is needed for the revenge story. Sure Characters get moments where they feel like real people, but its disconnected from WHERE they are living. Would be nice to see the show actually explore WHERE it is set in coming episodes instead of focusing just on how far the MC will go for his revenge. So far the show clearly is drawing inspiration from the likes of Godfather, Sopranoes, Baccano, etc, but it does not manage to replicate that feeling.

Still a solid episode by all means, but it can certainly be better in those aspects.

Shouldn't it be Grassia? "Galassia" is Italian for "galaxy". Not likely to be a surname... The other surnames used are pretty authentic, so it looks like the author has done his homework...

This is a good pace. I like how quickly this series is able to build up characters, even when it has to kill them in the same episode.

It's ironic that the MC isn't one of the better ones, but I think the story is very aware of the contrast, since right from the outset Angelo is described as a creep who is not that well-understood by those around him. I'd like to think there's a greater reason for that, so that'll keep me watching for a while.

Episode 2

First of all, damn that OP! That neko is amwazing! Best OP this season.

So, there are three Mafia families here, Galsssia, Orco, and Vanetti. Galsssia is the most influential of the three and the other two listen to them. The Vincentte killed Angelo's family and also took overafter killing the previous don. The Vanettis don't have good relations with the Orcos since they have this fight over alcohol with the Vanettis stealing all the good Orco booze. So the ones who gave Angelo information about those who killed his family are probably the Orcos because they're the ones who will benefit from Nero and Vincentte being killed. Angelo also ended up pissing off Ronaldo and if the guy feels like it, he can have Angelo killed through the Galsssia gang. And he's pissing off the Orcos too by going after Fango, but at the same time he's getting close to the Vanettis to make for a perfect revenge. This guy sure is messing with everyone lol. I cannot see a happy ending for this fellow. And it would be pretty cool if Angelo ends up pissing off everyone and they all join against him and he ends up dying without getting his revenge properly. Would be like he went out for mindless revenge but ended up getting himself killed. Another situation could be where he pisses off everyone but puts them all against each other or against the Vanettis only and then things turn into an all out war among the Mafia groups. That would be cool too.

Angelo was a bit hasty in killing Vanno. Although there's no denying the situation was perfect. It was just after his attempt at killing Fango and Vanno had Serpente caught and then killed him. The story was also pretty convincing too. But a better idea woo have been to kill Vanno and Serpente in Fango's apartment. Then Nero wouldn't have been able to go there as the apartment was probably in Orco territory. Killing Vanno in front of Tronco's grave wasn't the best idea. Nero is suspecting Angelo and rightly so – Angelo hasn't gained that level of trust yet and Serpente's body isn't at the scene either which makes Angelo even more suspicious. He should get rid of Nero as soon as possible but that's not possible right now since Nero has his guard up and will continue to be wary of Angelo until Angelo does something extravagant like saving Nero's life by putting himself in danger or something along those lines. Corteo's alcohol can't make up for this level of suspicion alone.

Things are getting pretty cool. Angelo's plan of getting close to the Vanettis has seemingly faced a setback here as Nero is suspecting him. His plan is pretty ruthless though and it would be cool if he ends up pulling it off perfectly.

I think that is most uncomfortable bride I've ever seen.

But that was hell of a plotwist!

However, I'm not entirely convinced Vanettis are behind the murder Angelo's family mainly due how convenient he hot that infomation. I defintely like he's being used in someway.

This was a great episode. I can see this anime being one of the best this season for sure.

I could see some Godfather inspiration in this episode, when Angelo tried to kill Fango, it reminded me of the scene where Vito Corleone went to assassinate Don Fanucci with a pistol wrapped in a towel to drown down the noise from the shots, just like Angelo had in this episode.

Wow, I wasn't expecting one of them to get taken out so soon. Avilio's in a spot though. I wonder what happened to Serpente and if it had to do with the fact that we didn't see any blood after he was supposedly shot three times. I had initially assumed it was due to a low budget, but now, I'm not sure if either they were followed and someone removed his body, or if he never really died... And Avilio definitely needs to be more suspicious towards the sender of that letter.

In general, loved the episode from start to finish (although I did quirk an eyebrow at Fango and his mistress). The studio is doing a good job at portraying Avilio's madness, though no one seems to notice the glints of insanity in his eyes, like when he and Vanno introduced themselves.

This is shaping up to be really good.

I thought the same, so I went back and rewatch the relevant scene in episode 1. It was definitely Vincente and Nero Vanetti who killed his family. The third man wasn't clearly identified, but there's no reason to think it wasn't Vanno (an evidence pointing to him is that he signed himself after killing back then too). The letter is telling the truth. The biggest question is who sent it? It must be one of the rival family trying to use him to do their dirty work and get rid of the Vanettis.

Actually that's probably right. With only a few exceptions, many of the names in this series are just Italian nouns:

Tronco- "trunk", Cerotto- "band-aid", Vanno- "to go", Granchio- "crab", Corteo- “following”, Luce- “light”, Testa- “head”, Fango – “mud”, Serpente- “snake”, etc.

Someone being names "Galassia" would just be par for the course.

Did you notice the extra younger blond brother who is not mentioned in the letter? He might benefit from having his father, older brother, and his older brother's chief lieutenant all die. Even more so if he is "adopted".

True the younger brother was also very assistant that the families combined. So it stands to reason he has somthing to gain.

The problem is, how would he know about Angelo or what happened to the Lagusa family? He seems to be even younger than Angelo or at least the same age. How would the brother know that Angelo survived and track him down, pretending to be his father's friend and giving him that picture and everything. I doubt it.

My eye is on the megane blond, something seems suspicious about him.

I'm suspecting Vincent himself to send the letter. Who would have known of the 3 members to do the execution, and even know about Angelo or that particular child in the photo sent to Angelo? and knowing the escaped boy?

His purpose is perhaps to drag Angelo to the scene, on one hand to kill off the aggresive Vanno to prevent further trouble for his own plan for the family, and on the other hand to kill off Angelo who could be a thread to his son after he died.

Well, just a wild guess. The younger brother is too young to know all those details, and too short sighted to play those plots so I've dismissed him. Barbero is possible but his age is in question so he's on second place of my suspect list now.
