Pain's mass murder is not bloodthirsty, if for no other reason than he does not enjoy murdering people. Rather, Pain is a merciless killer, taking out anyone and anything that gets in his way. Not killing Hinata makes little sense considering his previous MO. So, it is not that Pain delibrately missed her heart (considerig that he was aiming for her chest), but rather, much the same as Kakashi, she moved just enough, that her lung was pierced instead. Or, at least that is my take on the events in question.

No matter what, though, getting stabbed in the lung is extremely bad and extremely critical. She has maybe 10 minutes to live before she suffocates on her own blood.

He did try to finish off kakashi, hence the nail to the head thing... by the time he realized Kakashi was still alive, God realm had already left the scene, and only a badly damaged barely able to move Cyborg Pain was left; and that thing could not even finish off chouji after the missile attack failed... and only reason he would not go back is because it was too far out of the way and he's got a kyuubi to track down; he'd never leave kohona if he took the time to kill every last one of them

He treats his enemies like you would treat a bug, he doesn't care one lick about their existence, and will squash them thusly... if he says he kills someone then they are dead... he's a guy who would kill every man, woman and child that was even remotely related to foe... as such he would not spare hinata, and would kill her just to make naruto feel pain (which is his goal to do to just about everyone)...

Lol , well...i wouldnt mind a S-rank fight. With allot of attacks we never seen, but than again...we want to see progress. So yea......S-rank attack...but not TO long of a fight

Ah so that would include even the non-ninja relatives of hanzou... or the various non-ninja citizens of kohona they would have been killed in his attack if not for tsunade... or the millions of people that will die at due to the jutsu he creates...

The story would become so much more interesting now if Hinata survives... I'd love to see Naruto's response, as well as Sakura's pwned face (Sasuke is gay, Naruto is taken and Sai is gay too... Lee is the last man on Earth for her now ).

Please Kishimoto, don't kill Hinata. And if you do, please kill Sasuke too, that would make up for it.

What I was saying is that once Kakashi was incapacitated and near death, Pein was content with that. He feels no need to confirm every kill. I think it's like james said, he wasn't purposely trying to spare Hinata but if for some reason his attack wasn't immediately fatal I don't think he'd care. Proving his point to Naruto is the main goal, as long as Naruto suffers by thinking Hinata's dead, it shouldn't make a difference if Hinata's actually lingering a bit.

It's probably just Pein didn't care about killing Hinata in the first place. It's not like he's been that precise in aiming with those blades, he mainly uses them to mess up the opponent's chakra.

If thats the case, then its bad writing, for that would contradict the whole "heart of blades" thing Pain uses on every foe he faces.

With the relatives of Hanzou it is actually a smart thing to avoid potential threats of revenge, it's like Jehu from Kings in the Bible he killed all of Ahaz's relatives and friends.
