Mashima, you're such a tease. Most of the chapter is a bit of comedy and revealing of some minor details. And then near the end we get with a series of new mysteries. Makarov's certain guild, the #1 guild, Lucy's father, Jellal, Ultear and Meldy, Zeref....

I wonder, though... since I feel fairly certain that the death of Lucy's mother is related to the dragons (or to something that involved the dragons), when the time comes for that revelation, Lucy would normally then ask her father for details about her mother. With him being dead, she can't now. Possibly the reason for killing him off.

Also advancing Lucy's character development; now that she's the last in her family, will she feel more strongly compelled to think about starting a family of her own? Develop (or acknowledge) feelings for Natsu or Gray? I don't think Loke, but I suppose it's a possibility.

Then again, maybe Mashima is like most shonen manga artists and can't do relationships worth a damn; hence why the confession, courtship, proposal and marriage of the gun couple happened off screen. I haven't read Rave Master, so I don't know if there was a decent relationship development there, heh.

Other than that, I can't begin to speculate on the mysteries; just not enough info. But this chapter does succeed in me really wanting to see the next chapter, to see if more information is revealed. I have a feeling we'll only get some tidbits, though, which will leave me frustrated, heh.

This is Fairy Tail. Knowing that, I'm thinking Jude left behind a heartphelt (pun intended) letter or something behind for her daughter.

Even so, I highly doubt that Jude knew anything specific about any dragon-related mystery related to his wife. If he were such a character, he would've been built up more significantly, carrying some sort of deep secret.

Not to mention... I highly doubt Mashima will throw in 'YOUR MOTHER WAS A DRAGON' plot tweest in the middle of several sub-plot building moments. ( Jellal-Erza, Urtear-Lyon-Gray, Lucy-Dad, Makarov-Guild Politics )

Rave Master actually did progressive romantic relationship quite well... Granted, it was a 'Chapter 1 All The Way Till The End Obvious Male Lead x Female Lead Romance.'

However, Rave also had its fair share of rather off-screen romances.

Well I'm not sure about her suddenly going off the deep end and wanting to make a family but I could see her wanting to be with someone.
Looking for comfort in her time of sorrow can certainly lead to her getting closer to Natsu now, since they are the only 2 there.

I do hope Mashima plays on this, yes Lucy is quite a strong person but at the same time rather fragile but I don't think I can see her handling this too well, at least I hope we don't see this blown over in her trying to keep up a act.

but then I guess that could happen and then Natsu is the one to break down that wall and get her to open up.

Spoiler for This turns into speculation when Natsu remembers something familiar about Romeo, but the case here is he's somehow wants to learn a lot of techniques and other more, who knows what happened to Romeo in the last seven years it's like he build up some determination in a different perspective than others.

There is a strong indication that Zeref is the grown-up version of Romeo, then somehow ended up in the past to redo everything he did in the future. So it's like Future trunks combined with the Androids, he's the one that destroyed Earthland at the same time he's the one who will find a way to save Earthland by returning back to time.

The familiarity came from the magic he learned from the Element 4 guy. The fire guy Natsu fought during the Phantom arc.

That will just ruin the manga for me, after enduring some other plot twists i hope he doesn't go that route. The thing that is most important is Romeo's fire ability. Natsu now has someone is completely suited to making sure he never really gets beat or runs out of food/energy.

Just because both character's have black hair and have slight similarities doesn't imply that they are the same person...hell Gray looks even more like Zeref if he had shorter hair...

What Natsu recognized as familiar about Romeo was his magic since it's basically the same as the Element 4 fire dude he fought in the Phantom Lord arc

No, that's entirely unrelated. 257 should be coming out sometime this week. Keyword being "week" as it's scanlation has always been somewhat more variable than the big Jump series. It'll probably be out sometime this weekend, though that we haven't even gotten spoilers suggests it might not be today.

Chapter 257 is out
