So why does Elena want Alto and Vermeil in the student council? I mean, keeping tabs on them is the obvious reason, but it seems like she has her own plans for the both of them and wants to make use of their power for the student council...
It's nice to see Cheryl and Marx finally get dialogue again! And seeing Lilia so supportive of Alto, even if she doesn't know about all the intrigue going on in the student council . I don't know what's more memorable, Vermeil sitting on Alto's bed with her jacket off, Alto declaring he'll get stronger to protect her, or Vermeil using that romantic declaration as a reason to undress him and possibly getting in some "fun" time with Alto. Did it look like her skirt was off in that scene of him on the bed to anyone else ? What is Elena's deal? She seems like a religious and dedicated person, but then she slices a statue in glee at finally having a demon or a great disaster in close proximity. Does she know more about Vermeil than we do? And is Vermeil's belief that she's not quite human accurate ? Of course on Alto's first day at the student council...he walks in on all the student council girls changing and we get a great view of them all in their underwear. Especially nice for such busty beauties, and to see Jessica down to her tights! I love how Elena and Chris take it well and realize they were responsible for not locking the door while Jessica's acting like a proper maiden who shouldn't be seen naked by another man before she's married . The student council has realized the Paper Dolls could only have been made by a Platinum Square, and speaking of which...we meet the third Platinum Square and source of said Paper Dolls, Kohakumiya (voiced by Miyuri Shimabukuro) who is aiding Iolite in their quest for...something from other Platinum Squares? But even she seems a little unnerved at the lengths Iolite is willing to go when he straight up murders a venerated and powerful fellow Platinum Square. And not only do they seem to have a demon in a test tube, but they're already setting their sights on Alto and Vermeil ! It looks like Alto is starting to see flashbacks to Vermeil as a child, and seeing her sobbing amidst a destroyed city...that I'm guessing she caused, even if she didn't want to do it. Seems like Vermeil's backstory is starting to unfurl. And we meet the mage woman from the Opening, voiced by Aya Endo, who questions Alto's feelings for Vermeil and whether he'll choose her or the side of justice. And the implication is that she's the one who sealed Vermeil in the book to begin with . I love how not only does Vermeil sleep in the buff but Alto's so used to seeing her naked it takes a second for him to realize she's naked. And then Vermeil grabs him onto bed and into her boobs so they can get busy, and no surprise Vermeil is a Top, but that scene of her tongue sticking out with some saliva...hoo boy . Time for the Bronze Exam! Proctored by a special ops guy voiced by Tetsu Inada! But while the test seems simple enough, I'm with Alto in assuming there's much more to it. I hope our main characters, including Alto, get to pass .

It's not that surprising that what seems like a simple test on the surface would be much more difficult than it lets on...although watching the guy with the giant bear and the monk fail was pretty amusing .
It's kind of easy to forget Lilia's supposed to be really smart and capable when she's spent so much time lusting over Alto and getting upstaged by Vermeil, but it's nice to see her get to show off for once. And Cheryl! And even Marx, to a degree, with some great Beetle emotional support ! "She's huge!" "THEY'RE huge!" "And she's ginormous." Even the serious proctor couldn't ignore Vermeil's giant Vermeil's Always save the best for last! And Alto not only sees through the actual test going on of finding the formulae in the crystal and the best spot to channel the mana into the flame, but he manages to go above and beyond by pouring a bunch of mana in through the weakest spot and breaking the crystal! Of course our leads have to just show off, especially with Vermeil pushing Alto on . I question Marx's chances of getting through the written exam if that's how he wants to take the test, but if it actually got him into the school, who am I to doubt genius ? We couldn't go an episode without a deep and passionate AltoxVermeil makeout session! And Vermeil is all over Alto, especially with her hands up against his chest with his shirt unbuttoned. And Vermeil always wants seconds . Elena is undefeated with the blade, but her and Jessica getting a shower scene together is pretty nice too. Elena is also fully aware that Alto is in love with Vermeil, and doesn't seem that bothered by it, but her comment about how a "miracle" like their bond shouldn't exist is a tad concerning . That guy may have been an arrogant jerk, but not even he deserved to get stabbed by Iolite who takes his spot in the test and sits himself right next to Alto....I don't think the written exam is going to go well .

Pretty fun watching Vermeil sit back, relax, and wait for Alto with those legs and bust of hers hanging about...and her just ruminating on how much she loves Alto for how studious and attentive he is !
It's bad enough the Bronze Square test is above the level you would expect from a test of that rank, Alto's got to sit next to a guy who isn't taking it seriously and is actually the Big Bad (who breezes through said test like it's nothing). It doesn't even matter that Alto knows the answers and would probably have passed because then Iolite chooses to finally make a mess . It was nice to see Pharanx actually join in the fight and contribute to fighting Iolite...even if he didn't do much better against him . I admire Lilia, Marx, and Cheryl's tenacity in trying to support and help Alto even if the plot had other ideas . Iolite's Golem is pretty dangerous, especially once it brings out the heavy artillery, but endangering Alto's woman is enough to make Alto finally go out and unleash his true magic potential against it. And it seems like Iolite knows more about Alto's magic and why he's so powerful ? Iolite has the generic bad guy goals of destroying the world...but, like, why ? Of course not even that is enough to stop Iolite when he brings out his knight familiar (two familiars!?), and not even Vermeil unleashing her demon form again makes any difference as he seemingly just seals up her power before she can even do anything. They really were not ready to fight this guy yet . But good thing Alto brought Vermeil's book because the Mage of Beginnings, or her lingering will left inside the book, shows up to protect them and offer them a solution for stopping him. She sealed Vermeil because Vermeil asked her too, and she knows the lingering trauma in Vermeil's head that seems to be holding her back from unleashing her true power (probably so she doesn't destroy everything again). And she's giving Alto the chance to go back in time in Vermeil's head to be there for her to help her get through it . Oh man, Vermeil was such an innocent and sweet girl back then! It's going to be heartbreaking to see everything go so wrong .

And thus the tragedy of Vermeil unfolded...the story of a happy, innocent, girl with a loving family who was forsaken and betrayed by this world because of circumstances beyond her control .
And she really did have a loving family with the Sister and her siblings. They didn't have a lot, but they had each other and plenty of love in their heart! And the Sister was willing to go against God if it meant caring for a girl as deserving as Vermeil. And that's all Vermeil needed . (I am kind of morbidly curious about her bio parents or how demons are born now...) Sayaka Ohara as the Sister! We even got an Ara Ara out of her! And was that Yoko Hikasa as Mielle ? Of course things take an obvious turn for the worse when the rest of the citizens find out Vermeil is a demon and bully her for it...and it gets even worse when a plague happens and, in true human fashion, they immediately blame Vermeil for it because it's got to be the demons' fault in their eyes . Mielle really was a great big sister! She never shunned Vermeil for being a demon, and she tried to do right by her Vermeil and the rest of their family despite how difficult the circumstances were . Whether Vermeil could've successfully ran away is a moot point because unsurprisingly she runs back to save her family even at the cost of her life, only for it to be too late . I mean...jeez, publicly hanging them? Even the children? There were real demons in that town, but it wasn't Vermeil ! And of course with so much rage and despair in her heart, Vermeil finally unleashes her true Demon Power and destroys the whole town and everyone in it. Pretty severe, but under the circumstances, I can't really blame her. But it says a lot that despite what they did to her, Vermeil still felt regret at unleashing her powers and for all the people she killed. She was still a better person than the entire rest of the town . Vermeil had to live 200 years on her own, shunned by humans for being a demon and shunned by demons for her power, until she was finally sealed. But Alto is able to appear before her at such a pivotal moment and tell re-affirm his dedication to her, that she was loved and deserving of love, and finally properly confess his own love to her and seal it with a kiss. Now the pair are more than ready to kick Iollite's butt .

What can the love between a human and the Strongest Scourge bring about? The power to break any of the chains bind them, be it fate or magic, to unleash the true power of their bond and the potential that lies within it .
Iolite bringing out Gaia the Fierce Knight to destroy our protagonists . Iolite talks about how dangerous demons are and how people should be wary of them when he's talking about using them to destroy the world...honestly he seems way more like a demon to me than Vermeil, and Alto's not about to let him insult his lady. He knows the real Vermeil and he loves every part of her . Alto and Vermeil's combined magic is able to destroy Iolite's knight and finally wipe that smug smirk off his face! You can tell he's getting serious because he finally drops his jovial tone and is about to unleash his full magic .. Although before we can see whether Alto and Vermeil have a chance against Iolite when he's serious...Heliodor comes in and takes him away because it's getting too hot for them to continue to remain. Although of course Iolite doesn't leave before basically swearing he and Alto will eventually get their rematch to settle the score . So the Mage of Beginnings's name was Fatima and she wasn't just the person Vermeil trusted to seal her...she was also close friends with her. Maybe the only friend Vermeil still had after what happened to her, and she genuinely wanted to find someone who could relieve Vermeil's pain and free her from the past, like Alto has. It was nice to finally see her beautiful eyes as she frees them from Iolite's magic and restores everything to its proper form . Lilia may have lost any chance at Alto's heart and any chance at plot relevancy, but her sheer joy at seeing Alto okay is infectious . Alto is determined to become the strongest mage, not just for the sake of it now but because he wants to become powerful enough to protect Vermeil! And to train himself he'll get lessons from the student council on swordsmanship (and kicks) from Jessica and get his butt kicked by Chris. Although I was more distracted by Chris' figure in those tight workout clothes or her pinning Alto's necks with her thighs or her putting her fingers in his mouth...I know Alto has Vermeil, but he sure seems to know how to spend his time with other girls . Ah...Jessica is so old-fashioned that she finds Alto's dedication to Vermeil so chivalrous and charming . Couldn't be a proper finale without Alto and Vermeil getting busy on Alto's bed! Or Vermeil exposing her massive Vermeil's. Although now that she's really realized her feelings for Alto, and his feelings for her, she's a tad more bashful at exposing her chest to Alto and doesn't quite know what to do about how rapidly her heart beats for him. Not that it stops her from sleeping with him in the buff or the pair talking about how much they love each other, culminating in yet another passionate makeout session (that maybe or maybe not became something more) . Looks like the student council plans to take on the Platinum Squares directly, whatever might come of it. And Alto's ready to accept that challenge with Vermeil by his side . It's great that everyone passed their Bronze Sqaure Exam...but of course Alto isn't there to celebrate because he'd rather celebrate by making out with Vermeil. Lilia's got this pair pegged .

The story beat was obviously protag is strong guy but Vermeil is carrying him for now. The encounters with the council members were along those lines but they themselves barely had much character, the guy that got hospitalized was probably the best of the bunch but not by much. This last arc had Vermeil's backstory but it wasn't anything particularly surprising, and was surrounded by a very boring battle with super genius mystery guy and his keeper lady. It might've been better off with faster pacing regarding the plot.

Although the promised variation in Vermeil's wardrobe didn't go very far, and sexual liberation doesn't really stop at kissing, there were some surprisingly emotional scenes at the end. Decent characters, not a lot of plot, better all round than I expected.
