Thus far, season 2 is not selling as well as season 1. (Legend: the vertical columns are volume number, first week sales, second week total, and release date. The first entry indicates the original release of S1. The second entry is a re-release of season one which was put out at half price. The list of entries following that are/will be for S2, with only the first volume out as of now. Note that these figures do not represent final sales, but the numbers reported in weekly sales rankings by the organization Oricon. In particular, DVD sales for the S1 re-release box-set and S2 vol.1 are not included in the tallies, because they were too low to show up in the ranking.)
~2800 (estimated, including DVDs) first week sales for a first volume is not great news for a late-night anime, but factoring in second week sales, I'm pretty confident that this season is still well in the realm of profitability. As for the likelihood of S3, however, honestly at this stage I cannot tell. As for the likelihood of full-length episodes, I'd say that's unlikely even aside from questions of profitability, because of the amount of source material. Currently the manga is at ~7 volumes published in Japan, while as of episode 12, S2 of the adaptation has reached the early parts of volume 5. (From what I gather, S1 adapted the story partway through volume 2). So by the time S2 finishes, I expect we will have covered nearly all of the published material. If the adaptation does continue past that point, I think the truncated episode format will be likely to continue not just for being a less risky business investment (if they cut it down to 1 cours next time instead of 2), but also so that the adaptation can start up again without waiting for several years. |

Ep 13
Okay - another absurdly adorable ep ... and it seems they changed the ED to the full version of S1's last ep's ED too. Firefly watching eh? Very nice - I love stuff like that. And it seems that Kokona knew the two of them from long, long ago. I like little things like that added in. Meeting on the mountain trail back in season 1 was not their first encounter with each other, then.

Cute kids are cute.
It might be a little excessive to say that they "knew" each other, given the way that meeting went. Particularly since, even now, I don't think any of them realize who the other party in question really was.

Ep 14
Another nice ep in which the storyline veers back towards mountain climbing. I like the fact that it went through addressing the very normal and natural concerns of Aoi's mother, and did it in a way that was responsible but did not feel heavy handed. Especially liked the nature in this ep...it reminded me a lot of the times I went hiking in the Mt. Tamalpais area northeast of San Francisco many moons ago for some reason. Next hurdle looks to be re-climbing the first mountain they ever climbed way back when they were kids. Should be interesting.

"Oshiete, Kaede-san!"
Now that Aoi has faced her first faced her first real failure, suffered through the depression that followed, and emergred from it having regained her motivation to keep challenging mountains together with everyone, now I think is indeed the right time for her to return to the mountain of her memories which gave her the original motivation to start doing this back in season 1. This way it serves as a reaffirmation of what brought Aoi into this to begin with, and proves that the trouble she had at Fuji won't keep her down. I'm looking forward to this. Listening to a longer version of season 1's ED is giving me all sorts of wonderful nostalgia for this series.

That was really soothing. The mountain in this episode seemed like a really nice one to climb. If I were in Japan, I would have totally gone on a pilgrimage to the places seen in the anime. Someday, maybe...

Very pleasant episode. As always, some nice imagery and a nice portrayal of the mountain they climbed. Such a heartwarming moment with Aoi's mom realizing her daughter's growth too.
The show continues to build interest in mountain climbing for me. Shame there are no nearby mountains...

Wow ep 12 and 14, were just such perfect follow ups to Aoi's failure, I really enjoyed those 2 episodes especially, though the show on a whole has been great and adorable.
And seeing them go back to their childhood mountain should be a treat ^^.

Ep 15:
At wikipedia they have added the plot of episodes 15 and 16: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...odes_(season_2) It is all about Kaede and a new girl who seems close to her. The name of the new girl is Yuuka and is voiced by Horie Yui: http://blog.livedoor.jp/nomuken77/ar.../40875994.html Ep 16: From wikipedia: ...while the theme for episode 16 onwards is "Mainichi Koharu Biyori" (毎日コハルビヨリ Everyday Indian Summer?) by Iguchi and Asumi. The ending theme for the first twelve episodes is "Tinkling Smile" by Ogura, the ending theme for episodes 13-15 is "Stacatto Days" by Iguchi and Asumi, and the ending theme for episode 16 onwards is "Cocoiro Rainbow" by Kyouko Narumi. http://blog.livedoor.jp/nomuken77/ar.../40998341.html Last edited by l.kostas; 2014-10-29 at 13:05. |

I totally did not notice that! Many thanks! That being said, I just finished ep 15, and it was actually kinda nice. The focus moves to Kaede and a little bit of her back story and a friend of hers outside the core four of the series thus far. Her name is Yuuka and she is one of those sweet souled worriers. ^^ Was that really Horie Yui as Yuuka's VA, though? I didn't recognize her at all! If so I royally fail as a Hocchan fan. Forgive me!
