So Bogdan finally has a piece of Arthur's body, that means another clash with her "sister" in the near future. Again, this episode was packed with content and story progress, Viivi's depression is finally over and Chaika manages to defeat Claudia (with a bit of assistance, of course).
Naturally Im hyped for the mystery surrounding the island and Arthur Gaz inheritance, must be something quite important considering how much it was mentioned. And new Chaikas already? That was fast. |

...Did our Chaika just deliberately choose to set something else as more important than her mission? That's... incredible.
PS: Stay strong, Vivi. Believe in your fortune. PPS: Preview of Frederica taking a bite out of a live fish while still in human form is inexplicably humorous to me.

Ep 02
Another solid episode, and yeah - gotta agree that Cladia was refreshing to meet a hero that was actually somewhat "heroic" for a change. Not a good track record before her. So Guy is helping White Chaika, Red Chaika and Vivi Chaika at the minimum...who knows who else he is giving info to? Something about him (Come to think of it is Guy even a him? An it? Part of a complex spell activated long ago?) makes me feel uneasy. Hmph, for all we know he may have also helped out Blue Chaika at some point. :\ Anyway, I thought it was kinda nice that Red Chaika was able to acquire a part of the remains - kinda feel sympathy for her character and sorta wanted her to "succeed" some as well. Then again, I felt badly for Blue Chaika as well and I guess for the Chaikas in general; especially when their single mindedness in gathering the remains gets diverted to...umm...existential concerns and worries. Like what White Chaika was going through this ep. What a surreal experience it would be to have a dream remembering the moment you were beheaded while knowing that somehow you were not the body that was beheaded per se. Yeesh. -_- The ED is okay, but the OP is pretty good again this season. ^^

Oh, I had to search a bit to figure out what Chaika was saying when the subtitles inexplicably chose to render her words in romaji rather than English, right after winning the fight."Yuko, ippon, waza ari!" I suspect those were left alone because there isn't any sort of translation for them that could make sense and fit in the space available. This link seems relevant.

Although I haven't read the light novel it seems like season 1 was kinda rushed especially the last few episodes.
I feel like in the last few episodes of season 1 the Mc and his sister were nerfed for no other reason than to create drama, also the fact that MC was too relaxed around Layla was very out of character. Also the end where Chaika kissed the MC to give him oxygen was stupid and unnecessary since she could have just created that air bubble thing from the start. Besides the final few episodes where it seemed like it was rushed season 1 was interesting with its world setting etc but I think they needed more episodes for this to be a better anime(12 just seems way too short). Anyway I will continue to watch season 2 as I generally don't like to drop an anime when I have started it(unless its really horrible). |

You are right about that, everything is rushed.
But anime can only have so much episodes to cover sp much lore. I would recommend reading manga, or LN themselves. 2 episodes of anime cover 1 LN volume, and there are 11 LN volumes total. So anime will end with LN series. With only manga for one day to show us all the dots we are missing. |

I have seen that the LN is being translated, I may purchase it when it translates around 3 volumes depending on how they end the anime. I have to say the story has a lot of potential but it just feels like things are missing even thought I haven't read the LN. |

Layla explained that all Chaika were programmed with skills to help them recover the remains. Chaika Boghdan for instance seems to be made for situations where a Chaika would have to resort to use force to recover the remains, further seen in her somewhat conflictual behavior. Chaika Trabant on the other hand, is a mage (so she doesn't necessarily has to look like a person who has fighting strength) whose appearance is usefull in garnering goodwill and have people help her in recovering artifacts. As we all know, she is kind of naïve, goodwilled, respectfull and tends to attract goodwill as she travels. It's normal to think that Chaika Boghdan > Chaika Trabant. Layla seems a bit more mature and has knowledge of alchemy and potions. I wouldn't find it weird if her modus operandi was just to trick people into giving the remains or acquiring them through the world of scientist scholars. Not sure how vivi plays into this, but she is part of the government so maybe she was meant to get the remains that fell in the hands of the government (her skills seem similar to Chaika Boghdan though).
I like how much thought Chaika Boghdan put into the difference between her opbjective and Chaika Trabant's objective. That shows how much she's grown. I didn't notice before but she understood why Toru said that he couldn't join her, even if they were well-suited and she wanted to deny his reason but for some reason chose not to. Nah, because it was a martial arts/judo reference. Changing it wouldn't fly. I kinda want to see Layla again, curious to know what she's up to. All Chaika surely are bound to be on that island through a series of coincidences. |

But it seems that even if they are programmed to collect remains, each one of them have it's own unique personality. It seems that they can reach point where they can even choose higher priorities than body parts collecting ( like Trabant choosing Toru, and Bogdan thinking about that in the last episode ). But that also must be the reason why many of them died as well in the past. So grimdark.... And also one of the reason why I love Chaika's world - there is magic but it works like science in a way. Everything is explained how it works and the logic appeals so realistic to that execution. |
