If he likes Tales games in general he definitely should play Zestiria ... But not for it's story this time.. the anime is here to hopefully tell the story in a good way. I've played a lot of games with much worse stories than Zestiria but still had plenty fun with them because of their combat system (Dragon's Dogma, I'm looking at you) .. No reason why Zestiria can't be one of those games.

I wasn't trying to start an argument .. I gave my opinion, you gave yours and that's that. And we clearly do have different opinions because despite me being a huge Tales fan, I couldn't get into Xillia at all.
I'm not saying he *should* do anything, but I'm saying he shouldn't dismiss Zestiria completely just because the game has some issues. Eh it's up to him anyways.

They are apparently going Anime only. If someone wants to go experience the original story from the game, they should do it. The game has its flaws, but ultimately, it's up to each person to decide that for himself or herself. I found the game amazing. It was my favorite Tales right under Tales of Vesperia.
If you plan on buying Tales of Berseria, it might be a good idea to check out ToZ as well. While ToZ is set 1000s of years after ToB, you might get a better understanding of the game. Besides, the point of the Anime is to sell the original material and future material. If you ultimately enjoy this Anime, you could always see it as a way to support them. With that said, let's stop hinting about the story being bad or whatever. Let the Anime tell its own story. We'll judge it at the end. |

eh, a discussion had come from my post? well I already bought the game for some time now. its been sitting on my shelf since last december. christmas and holidays is when I stock up lots of games with free time to play but when holidays are over and work resume, I haven't had lots of free time to play it. I already tested it and the first scene is playing the guy while up in a floating castle? I have just tested it and haven't played it yet. lots of back log games in ps3 and 4 lying around but working 6 days in 7 days a week won't help much in finishing them. Plus, i can't bring them at the office to play them unlike anime where I can just watch it in my pc while during break or while working.
which is why I'm really surprised for episode 00. They gave strong impression on the girl that I don't have any clue on.

Yeah the 00 episode is anime original material. It features Alishia, who appears also in the game. You'd know this if you had watched the OVA that came before the game but I guess you haven't? Sorey will meet her quite soon after starting the game, but as has been said here before, she's barely seen in the game after a while even though it's obvious she was supposed to be one of the main characters. I guess they'll fix that issue with this anime .. Otherwise would be really dumb to dedicate a whole episode to a girl who doesn't even get any screentime. The OVA follows the events of the game pretty closely so there's no need to watch it, though you could if you wanted .. Not sure if the anime will show these same events once again but would make sense if it does. I'll stop derailing this thread now

Anime-only here. Not much of a gamer myself ever since I graduated from uni, so my previous experience with Zestiria was the movie (or OVA?) some time ago that Ufotable made as a prologue or some kind for the actual game. Thanks to that movie, I already knew the MC and also know a bit about the state of the world from Alisha’s interaction with a certain someone. In that movie, I thought Alisha was one of the two most interesting characters in it, so I was pleasantly surprised that this episode put so much (or should I say sole?) focus on Alisha and her (background?) story. Good stuff. Can’t wait for the next episode.
Still, for all the madly-gorgeous CG Ufotable threw at my eyes, I think they actually forgot to animate their 2D objects well in some occasions. One of that occasion is when Alisha was riding her horse running from the twister. The movements of the horse as well as other objects like Alisha’s hair are quite monotonous and static that it wouldn’t feel out of place in the Arslan Senki anime (a very good series that suffers from lackluster animation presumably due to budget, or lack thereof). Ufotable, you’re really good when it comes to CG, shading, color-grading and lighting, but you can’t fool me by covering your not-so-good 2D animation with CG dust and wind . But I guess even Ufotable could use some little cutting-corners which is understandable. Other than that, I pretty much love the animation in this episode. Quote:

I don't wanna be a party pooper but let's keep it to anime only discussion. At most it makes sense to compare the anime to ToZ when necessary, but bringing up ToB info seems blown out of proportion until the anime has shown its actual connection to ToB. Btw. you misheard what was said in the trailer, they are not saying "time machine". lol

I just watched the new Berseria trailer. Damn, this is gonna be the most dramatic and heartwrenching Tales ever. I want to play it now!
Look on youtube, there is a subbed version of the trailer.

Episode 1 (beyond the prologue):
Well this was quite something. To me, this was more like an extended version of the special OVA of both Alisha's and Sorey + Mikelo's point of view up to the point where they encountered each other. For one thing, I feel bad for Alisha here as she almost loses her life and hope in the ruins. Animation remains strong for the show and personally, I'm really starting to like the OP song of this series. Good stuff, hopefully the pacing will pick up more next time.
