The currently airing Guin Saga is definitely a contender in this category. It's based on a series of fantasy novels dating back to 1979 that had a lot of influence on Japanese RPG designers at places like Squaresoft. Royalty, swordfights, mythical characters, it has it all.

Not to threadjack, but does anyone know of an anime that has a Western setting?

Not western as in King Arthur, swords and shields and knights, but Western as in six-shooters, cowboys, horses, the Wild West shit.

Oh and I didn't like Grenadier. I can only take so many doses of gag boobs before I explode.
