I'm on a bad streak m'self... but... I don't have to worry about ratings/rankings. I just play... and in a few minutes, I play while enjoying a beer.
Here's that game: http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2010081015g...-802d0cd8&tw=1 Started off hot. Fizzled in the middle. Tried to fight back at the end a little bit. The two times I got hit: I KNEW that they were bad tiles just by feeling alone. However, I dropped those tiles just to test it - right then and there.

-------- I love when people decide to quit mid-game. But then, I hate those people that quit never get ron'd.

The problem was, on my turn I drew the 1 Man, so I had to discard it. This was promptly followed by the Shimo Cha and Stalkergirl also discarding the 1 Man, leading to ryukyouku. I was indeed aiming for Houtei, the bad luck was drawing the 1 Man on my last turn and going into furiten.

If that happens, just take a break or switch games to something less point painful. When I play on the BVS client, I find I often win the first game I play, but lose the other three games. I have the option of doing a "mega-game" where I count one game as four, but I find I'm always on edge when I do that because it's a greater risk. Such happened today - I got a cycle, with one game in first, one in third, another in second and the final in last. I swapped because my luck had been bad for the past two days, and I ended up not getting first on my first game, but I should have switched back today, but didn't because I chickened out.
The more games you play at once, the more dulled your senses for the game are and the more prone to mistakes you are. If you're playing with someone fresh, luck will favour them since they're more on alert and have clear thinking.

that's nothing. I had a 20 game losing streak when I was 3 dan and that dropped my rating from 1850 -> 1671 and down to 280 points. Miraculously I pulled through and bombed a bunch of 1st and 2nd places afterwards and it was smooth sailing from there.

I would also think that your theory is the opposite. It would be during the non peak hours that all the premium players are on. They'd be the dedicated ones that would be willing to play so late. Plus, its a lot easier to run into the casual players when there are so many of them on during peak hours. |

Well, at least there's still 3p, I feel bad for guy to my left since there was no way he could have known+ he drew the winning tile right after declaring riichi. I was wondering if it was a good idea to throw away the 3 way wait for that, in retrospect that was kinda silly especially with 1 haku already out, but whatever. Reached 3 dan for that, got very lucky http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2010081205g...457cd1e20&tw=2
