What I find even more disturbing is that he may be able to interview witnesses, which means he while have continual contact with the children he victimized (assuming he is guilty). The whole situation is just plain sickening.

Frankly, I have some trouble with the notion that viewing the material further damages the children. Their damage occurred during the filming. Any further damage would be from seeing the films themselves or in having to confront this bastard in court.

I did read it before posting, and I actually agree with the sheriff. The law has to be followed.

I have a feeling that loophole in the current law is going to be closed post haste.

I was stewing over coffee and I'm not sure it can be closed. As long as someone is allowed to act in their own defense and as long as kid porn has to be viewed by *somebody* in the process of preparing a case (though that idea makes me sad for the preparer) ... I'm at a loss.

Agreed. Too bad it's going to come back to bite him in the ass in the primaries, unless he gets lucky and all the other candidates siphon out of the same staunch voter pool, leaving every last moderate republican for him.

He's just doing it because he thinks it'll help him, not because he actually believes or disbelieves in it. As far as I can tell, most Republicans would only sign or denounce it if they thought it would increase their chances of winning.

Bachmann is probably the only candidate retarded enough to actually believe in the content of the pledge.

Of all the Republican candidates I actually like Jon Huntsman the most. He seems to be a sound guy, with good experience.

Don't think he has much chances though...

In the "unintended consequences of being stubborn AND stupid politicians" department in playing chicken with debt ceilings and budget breakdowns:

Quote:
MINNEAPOLIS — Miller, Coors and other popular beers may disappear from Minnesota stores and bars within days because brewing giant MillerCoors lacks the proper licenses due to the state's government shutdown.
MillerCoors has 39 "brand label registrations" with the state that expired last month, and the employees who process renewals were laid off when state government shut down July 1 in a budget dispute, Doug Neville, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday.
State alcohol enforcement officials who remain on the job recently told officials with Chicago-based MillerCoors LLC that they need to come up with a plan soon for pulling their products he said.
"I think we're looking at days instead of weeks before some action needs to be taken but I don't have an exact date," Neville said.
MillerCoors spokesman Julian Green said the brewer still hopes to resolve the dispute through discussions with state alcohol regulators, but didn't rule out legal action.

An unfortunate truth seems to be what happens to the United States effects the planet. At least in terms of economics and in some respects politics. Does anyone honesty think a Second Civil War won't bring down the world economy? Especially if it is bloodier than the first one?

That's probably not viable anyway, since there is not a clear division within the nation to form a second government that can be supported against the Federal Government. The lines for Republicans and Democrats are far too spread out to make a second fuctional nation. Red and Blue states don't tell the story at all I'm afraid...the blue is major population centers and the red is everything else if one looks a a Red-Blue map based on voting districts...and even that should be shades of purple.

We don't have a real divide like we had in the 1860s. The two parties are bascially the same thing, just talk out of different sides of their faces. Both parties will try to enact the same legislation if given the chance to do it first. If not, they will be violently opposed to it because the other party got there first...and that is the only reason they object to anything. Credit for completed tasks...chance of reelection...power.

The people voting for each party are more different than the actual parties are.

If the media corporations ever fail to dilute the mindsets of the people and fail to distract their thoughts with the usual smoke... than maybe this will end up in an asymetric war-like scenario (very unlikely). I think of this scenario more like a huge Israel with many small Palestines in between. The war will be fought using terror attacks and riots. This is pretty much the modern way of civil war in developed countries, where an opposition force cannot fight on the same level as the national military (against police could be possible though). It will actually be less bloody than a typical civil war and less costly... terror proved to be kinda effective to reach goals in asymetric war-like situations (its like a bee sting for the country, not deadly but very painful).

I don't think we're headed for civil war.

Now revolution....that's another story entirely.

Singapore back in Malaysia cup after 16 years

Quote:
A team from Singapore will finally go across the causeway to participate in Malaysia Cup.

According to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the Singapore team, Courts Young Lions will be joining the Malaysian League. The partnership will also see the Malaysian under 23 squad joining the S-League.

Football has always been the number one favourite sport in Singapore.

The oldest football association in Asia, Singapore Amateur Football Association was founded in 1892 and was the previous body of the current Football Association of Singapore (FAS), which was formed in 1952.

It was mainly made up of Europeans as the team first participated in the Malaya Cup (name changed to Malaysia Cup in 1967). Established since 1921, it is Asia’s longest-running tournament. Singapore and Selangor were the dominant forces in the tournament, sharing a total of 56 titles among them.

In those early days, two spectacular local Chinese footballers caught the eye of the public. “Pop” Lim Yong Liang was the first star striker who played for Singapore in the twenties. John Chia Keng Hock (1913 – 1993), nicknamed “Cannonball Chia”, was an exceptional goalpoacher who found the net regularly from the mid-thirties till WWII.

The Lions of the sixties and seventies truly represented the Singaporeans as it was made up of ethnic Malays, Chinese, Indians and a couple of Eurasians. The famous Quah family produced four national players in Kim Song, Kim Siak, Kim Swee and Kim Lye.

During those days, it was common to see diehard local football fans travel to Malaysia and the Jalan Besar Stadium (and later the Kallang Stadium) regularly, cheering for the Lions with the Kallang Roars or making the Kallang Waves.

Singapore’s own legendary coach Choo Seng Quee, nicknamed Uncle Choo, engineered the Lions to Malaysia Cup triumphs in 1964 and 1977. Arguably the greatest post-war coach in Singapore football history, Uncle Choo passed away in 1983.

Marched into late seventies, Singapore witnessed its first modern day superstar Fandi Ahmad making his first appearance for Singapore at only 16, a national record held until 2007.

In the Malaysia Cup final in 1980, a fearless 18-year-old Fandi scored the winner to help Singapore beat Selangor 2-1 and lift the cup for the 23rd time.

After ventures in Indonesia, Holland and Malaysia, it was not until 14 years later in 1994 before Fandi would lead the Singapore team to another Malaysia Cup triumph, the last ever Malaysia Cup victory for the Lions as Singapore withdrew from the tournament for good.

The Malaysia Cup fever reached its peak in the early ninties, where the likes of David Lee (goalkeeper), Terry Patmanathan (sweeper), Borhan Abu Samah (left back), Malek Awab (right back/winger), Lim Tong Hai (center back), V. Selvaraj (midfielder), Fandi Ahmad (striker), Sundramoorthy (right winger), Lee Man Hon (left winger), Steven “Supersub” Tan (right winger), Nazir Nasir (midfielder), together with the foreign imports in Abbas Saad (striker), Alistair Edwards (striker) and Jang Jung (sweeper), became household names all over Singapore.

FAS launched the S-League in 1996 and saw emerging talents such as Indra Sahdan, Ahmad Latiff and Noh Alam Shah. However, viewership declined over the years because the league attracted lesser passionate fans as compared to the Malaysia Cup days, where rivalries were much more intense with tens of thousands of spectators packed into stadiums.

Under the Foreign Talent Scheme, FAS tried to recruit skillful footballers from countries such as Serbia, Nigeria, Brazil and China to join Singapore in order to participate in regional and global competitions, but the results are not encouraging so far. The national team is also slowly losing its identity with the fans.

Even if it is just our under-23 team that is going across the causeway, let’s beckon, “Bring the Malaysia Cup back!”
I wonder how my generation will react to this - we are the ones that grew up without the insane organisation of sending a large portion of our country's males across the straits just to watch a soccer game.

There could be a possibility that the feeling is gone though - most of our national team is made up of foreigners rather than the local Singaporeans. With 36% foreigners, where can there be a Singapore spirit?

Agreed. Now, 250GB is a lot for personal use. 250GB is modest for a gaming consultant. This is foul play on the part of Comcast.

Before I go on, I take back what I said earlier, 250GB isn't a lot for anyone if the article isn't lying and 1GB does cost 2cents. If that's true, the guy got banned for $5. That's not even realistic.

Anyways, I was thinking just that actually, but I have to wonder if any of the other services available there would have more stringent caps on bandwidth than Comcast.

He got banned for not abiding by his ToS, which exist because his overusage degrades the quality for other clients, because his ISP refuses to invest in the necessary infrastructure...
