To be honest, I know absolutely nothing about this show. I picked it up due to some short story:
The Randomc.net Blog usually posts a synthesized but very descriptive entry for each new anime season of shows that comes.

StarDriver was one among the several titles that was covered.

When I read the entry and found out about BONES producing this show, I looked it up in Wiki for further information. I told myself, " why not?! Maybe it could turn out pretty amusing."

Indeed, the first episode, or at least the first half of the episode, turned hilariously amusing whenever I watched Shindo-Wako-Takuto interacting onscreen; Takuto's hilariousness booms more frequently over anyone else.

Anyways, before the opening started to roll, towards the end of the first half the story went on a bang, suddenly introducing the masked duelists of the Order of the Glittering Star Cross.

What I like most about this show is that the first episode introduces several familiar and big-hit voices:
First, Mamoru Miyano as Takuto and Fukuyama Jun as Shindo.

Those two big talents are giants in regards to the world of anime seiyuus, and for me this happens to be the third show listening the two actors voicing characters who share the same spotlight and appear onscreen.
The two other previous shows were Rental Magica and the Vampire Knight series.

Second, Saori Hayami, for those who recalled her as Musubi from the Sekirei series, and currently she provides the voice for Azuki Miho in Bakuman.

Ami Koshimizu, Shinichiro Mikki (no need for introduction about this man, since he's a solid veteran), and Akira Ishida.

And for the moment, those are the familiar voices introduced for the first episode.

Coincidentally, I finished with HEROMAN yesterday, a BONES production, and today I started Star Driver, another BONES production.

Welcome to the world of Namco Bandai sponsored shows. They always go for the top talent and in fact the ones you mentioned are regulars in pretty much all the shows they are involved with which are typically the sunrise/bones mecha anime. I fully expect Hiroshi Kamiya to be putting in an appearance at some point and possibly the rest of Weiss in Koyasu+Tomokazu.

Must be exciting for Kaoru especially.

Well that cleared a few things I guess. So they're trying to... take over the world? Somehow I expected a more complex motivation, lol.

Fight scenes were friggin awesome though

Hey now, I never said for certain that they are trying to take over the World. It's only episode 1. As long as you understand the basic concepts, that's enough. Just let Star Driver tell its FABULOUS story at its own pace from now on.

Utena was full of symbolisms, mostly erotic. Yes, I see the parallel in the first episode but the way everything was introduced... Er...

Code Geass? It will need a heck of a lot to reach THAT story.

TTGL, no way. At least not so far. I loved the serious and almost scary feeling in the first episode of TTGL. So ok, it soon turned WEEEEE but I really liked those angsty minutes the little boy was describing its story. Here? The name of the "hero" and the looks of the villains? Ok... Not my cup of tea.

lol i would say that's reading too much into it but anyway i think imperialx is referring to how both shows seem over the top and will probably try to be epic though still early days.

It should be made a rule in this thread that any and all mentions of Galactic Pretty Boy in this thread must be made in at least font size 6 or 7 and red font.

Was quite (really) busy on the day I watched episode 1, but now that I'm free, I have to say this:

Nothing is more fabulous than the mahou (bi)shounenjo henshin scene and the mecha posing. I tip my hat for BONES and the staffs under the names of every single colours of rainbow.

That and the lack of clothing the villains have. Tight leather is tight. *APPROVES*
