The seventh episode is mostly comedic to watch. There's Hyuga, a genius who's clearly had fantasies over Iona, but at the same time she's serious about her studies. I'm really liking the use of CGI in the show even more aside from unnamed background characters which really looks out of place due to lacking shadow and the oversimplified designs. Regardless I don't complain much seeing I'm used to it. Nothing very eventful happened this episode, but we get delicious scenes of girls in swimsuits and I have some feelings that Kongou and her companions will come into the scene by causing conflicts towards the main characters. The ending theme is showing the ships' true forms. I cannot help but think the show is really helping to market Kantai Collection into everything despite having no relation other than carry the same navy themes.

A few things:

- For some reason they seemingly declared Hyuga as fast battleship -> She is an ISE Class battleship though.

- Takao was actually meant to say something like 'Even though you are my captain you can't see all of me. For example I won't show you my engines', while she probably meant what she said in the anime -> So more tsundere

To the episode now:
Well it looks like they made Maya a minor villian for the anime, and Kongou 100% more awesome
Though i have no idea why they suddenly mention the admirality code after carefully walking around the issue of it existing until now. (Well I can imagine something but that might be a spoiler) - Kinda defeats the purpose of cutting Yamato out.
But oh yeah the two different Ed animations are important!

I like how 401 and Kongou seem a lot more robotic than the others though, oh and how she looked down on Kirishima when asking her if she won't abandon Haruna - just awesome.

Huh, it seems like Iona is going off a significantly different route than in the manga with the whole "feeling in my chest" thing. Although I liked the Iona in the manga better, this one is okay I guess.


Also, did anybody else think that it kinda looked like Hyuuga was pretty much dry-humping Iona during the meeting scene?

I guess there are still some things that shouldn't be done in CGI lol.

With the sudden gushing of teenage feminine immaturity I felt that the dockside scene in this episode was the weakest I've seen the show. However the remainder of the show was up to, and sometimes above, the standard. And I agree about Kongou, and when I saw the ED I laughed aloud! Well done!!

This episode really exceeded my expectations, by far. Just to keep it short, I liked Hyuuga's character design and her expressions very much (well, the dry humping could have been done a bit better, but oh well). Seeing Takao's tsundere moments come to life was fabulous. Maya's excitement over finally getting to do something was outstanding. In fact, I re-watched that little bit a few times.

And they made Kongou a total badass!

Hyuuga and her antics were pretty well done and they even included Iona belly fanservice scene again, just like the manga. Plus swimsuit scene with Takao and Iona, though I missed the line about "not underestimating submarines". Oh well, can't have everything.

A good episode in general and looking forward to next week, with Kongou and Maya finally taking action.

That crack from Iona had a different context in the manga though, and would be totally out of character for Anime!Iona.

Also Kancolle Takao makes Tsundere Heavy Cruiser Takao flat by comparison, don't deny it!

That said, a random musing on power levels, specifically regarding the Fog and nuclear weapons. Granted I haven't read the manga, but, these are my thoughts based on the anime and the wiki. As I said, I haven't read the manga, so i could be totally wrong.

The wiki states it is implied, but not show that Fog shielding on heavier ships can survive a tactical nuclear weapon. However, a tac-nuke is comparatively small for a nuclear weapon, in the few to at most tens of kilotons, compared to the largest nuclear weapon ever deployed, the Russian Tsar Bomba, with a yield of 50 megatons.

Considering several conventional gun and anti-ship missiles reduced the shield of the Haruna/Kirishima by 3%, it would seem likely that a standard strategic nuclear weapon, measured in the hundreds of kilotons or megatons in yield would probably be able to destroy a Fog Ship. And if one didn't do it, an Ohio-class submarine carries 24 Trident II missiles, each with up to twelve 100-450 kiloton warhead.

Given these facts, it seems more likely that, rather than simply being able to tank 288 nuclear warheads, one of the following conditions occurred:

1. The Fog Fleet's weapons, able to shoot down a satellite, could intercept any missiles or aircraft incoming. It would also make sense that they quickly eliminated SSBNs, as the only human ships with any chance of harming them.

2. The Fog fleet cannot be located and tracked by missile targeting systems.

3. International leaders intentionally agreed NOT to use strategic nuclear weapons, due to the likelihood that the number of warheads needed (possibly multiple hits per ship, or else a Tsar Bomba-like weapon) would result in unacceptable levels of radiation pollution.

I think, unlike Muv Luv, they can get around that issue here. The Fleet of Fog struck fast and quick, and disabled most of the Navies & Satellites before a retaliation could be mounted. Given their long-range defensive capabilities, it'd be very hard to deliver a Nuke. This is one of the classic advantages of Navy Warfare, vis a vis Nukes, actually. This is why Subs track down Carriers.

If you have no Subs left to deliver Nukes, the only option is by Air (can be taken out) or Boat (also can be taken out), though it'd likely do some damage by boat. But only if all of them were together and you had a big enough Weapon to deliver. No country keeps anything terribly "big" around. There are "dial a damage" warheads, but the MIRV designs work by using "smaller" warheads to do the same damage as a single, much bigger one. (Adds in redundancy and fail-safes to the attack)

So getting a device close enough would be hard, then confirming the effect would be even harder. Having shut down the sky that is over-water does most of the damage. It's also implied they took out all of the under-sea cables, so a lot of islands are utterly cut off from the rest of the world.

The Fleet of Fog is technologically advanced enough to do what they did, but also aren't an insurmountable obstacle. Makes for a solid world.
