Episode 1
Ooh, they sure didn't waste time to get right to the point. The aerial fighter squadron consisting of the main characters don't play around on their jobs. Kirie has my attention the most as one of the pilots. The aircrafts they use aren't anything too special (at least compared to say...Girly Air Force this season) imo. However, I like the scenery of the dogfights and actually flying. Much more realistic than I had expected and it went into good amount of details from the pilot's perspective. It kinda reminds me of the good old dogfights I've seen in war movies. I hope they can develop the story more but it's only the first episode for now so I'll wait for more.

Well at least it isn't a harem BS like the other one.
On the other hand it seems pretty formulaic, given that veryone of any consequence is a young girl, for reasons, and so it's obvious the male squadron will be shredded. As far as the air combat is concerned it's pretty much Hollywood aircombat, where everyone mixes up in PISSING RANGE turning fights (IF anyone actually tries turning) without any consideration about the strengths or weaknesses of planes. Out of the how many planes they shot down only ONE didn't appear COMPLETELY RETARDED to continue flying straight when the enemy tries something obvious. Also have I mentioned they only fire when they might as well RAM the enemy? Oh and EVERYONE suddenly looses control for NO REASON as soon as they start trailing smoke... and sometimes they spontaneously burst into fire later... for no reason. Except for the protagonist plane. Her plane model can actually loose part of it and trail smoke without going out of control and spontanously bursting into flames 5 seconds later.

It's not bad. The 3d + 2d swap at the drop of a hat is a bit jarring though.
With how much they did with characters, I don't quite get why they even bothered with 3d. They could have managed with just 2D and just less of it. I guess it's intended to be super budget production.

This show...... i have so many questions xD
Do parachutes not exist in this world ? Do people not need to breath air ? It seemed genuinely strange that they'd go to such lengths to show you a realistic portrayal of starting up a plane then omit things like parachutes, insulated clothing and breathing apparatus. Still it seems a bit more entertaining than that "girly airforce" at least.

It was fine. Nothing really special, but not bad either. Some decent moments and kind of nice to jump into a first person view for that sort of combat. Kind of nostalgia for those flight simulator games. Did we really need over 30 seconds spent on the main character just starting her plane? We get it you can animate plane parts moving. Congrats animation studio on your achievement!
Characters are kind of generic, but not that bad. Nothing really stood out to comment about. Just ok characters. Not sure I'll really keep up with it though. The plane action was ok. But there wasn't really much to get attached to with the story or the cast. One guy was talking it up. The others seemed rather decent people. Their only flaws being guys in a show where the main cast is female .

And it kinda is an achievement. They were pretty spot on (with maybe some problems with magnetos) what the startup from cold looks like. On the other hand it seems pretty certain that they don't actually have any models with any battle damage. No holes, ripped chunks of wings or anything like that. So all damage is simulated with fire and trailing smoke. Which in my mind makes thing silly when just having a hole in the cooling system (grayish smoke) seems to make planes completely loose control.

I enjoyed the first episode but I could have done without the male targets. They added nothing to the show except getting to see them shoot down and set up a number of logical problems with the setting. If they had been doing this for five years at least why did only one of them seem to know how to fly? And if the girls are such killing machines shouldn't they at least know them by reputation? Also it kind of undercut the girls since the best pilot on their side seems to be the priest since he took on six fighters at once and still got a kill which is better then anything the girls did.

A decent start, and the dogfight segments were actually well animated and choreographed, employing many of the same tricks that GuP did such as first-person action views and incredible use of the CGI for panning shots. Also, the mechanical porn as always is on point.
Nothing really memorable on the character front though, and the five guys initially introduced only served as cannon fodder. I do like that while the Kotobuki squad did save the day in the end, they did so pretty much by the skin of their teeth instead of being the super-overpowered team that just steamrolls anything for an impressive start. They do seem to be going for a somewhat more 'serious' setting than GuP, with both the ending narration pretty much painting it as a post-apocalyptic world, and actual character death being a thing, although the tone still remains light at the moment. That final dogfight though seems to be hinting at a rivalry/revenge kind of plotline that I hope we get some explanation for later.

Ah, some nice old-style dogfighting where the only weapons planes have are machineguns, the only instrument they have for detecting enemies is the unaided eye, and little girls are the deadliest creatures in the skies.
Lots of aircraft porn for plane-otaku, especially in that startup sequence.
