It was a charming episode, not one of the best, though. I can't help but compare the first half to that episode of Gintama with the interview to Katsura, and it's not a very favorable comparison for this one; still, quite amusing and the edited video was great. The second half... well, at some point this week I decided to check a random manga chapter of this series, to see how the characters and the jokes looked in the original format. It turned out to be the one that was adapted in this second half. I liked it a lot in the manga format, but it understandably lost some impact now that I knew every punchline and every joke. Yeah, the blame is completely on me. I couldn't believe the coincidence.

Either way, very entertaining as always. Anzu is such a cinnamon roll.

I guess next episode will be Nitta's quest to trade in his Hina model for an Anzu one. Wouldn't blame him, Anzu is the perfect daughter.

As if having to let Anzu leave wasn't bad enough, he is also going to have put up with a lot of mocking thanks to that video.

Mao was in the first scene of the first episode of this series. That scene was 3 years into the future. So unless Mao made it to Japan and went back to China during that time, I don't think they are all going to meet up for quite some time.

Wasn't that Nitta's sister?

It's 3 years older Mao. At the end of the scene, it bounced to Nitta's apartment and says "3 years ago", which introduces Hina. The most obvious item in the scene is that she is holding onto a Hina puppet that she is using as her weapon. An older and more mature looking Mao is pretty awesome. It just goes to show how all the main young girls, minus Hina, are all great girls.

P.S. Whoever designed those dimensional traveling capsules should be fired. Hard for the traveler to get out of, easy to break, and easy to lose.

Another OP edit. Anzu's family view got adjusted to properly center them, after the removal of Utako.

F.Homda and Byu. Amusing.

Regarding Sabu: "That guys a dumbass. I'd wear myself out yelling at him." Ayup. That's a Sabu for ya.

Ponytail Anzu is the best.

Nitta alone in the end credits again. Also, Anzu taking Hina's seat at the bar. They don't have to do much to edit the OP and ED each time, but it is neat that they're making changes for almost every single episode.

Anyway, my predicted episode for the second half didn't happen. Given the amount of time in the episode that they had left for the second segment, it's probably just as well. Hitomi's English lessons would need a few more minutes.

I did sort of expect the Anzu segment, but more expected it to be in next week's episode, to happen concurrently with Hina's ski trip. However the pseudo cliffhanger fit perfectly, just like how they did that with the earlier episode of Hina cleaning the apartment.

However Hina's ski trip can't be the only thing they have next week, as one chapter only takes half the episode. My best guess right now is that they put in a concluding segment for Mao, to explain what's going on from the first episode intro, and her fight with the monks. That would be a decent capstone, to lead into a second season — which doesn't look too hopeful, given sales predictions. That makes me sad. There just hasn't been enough word-of-mouth for the series, and it really deserves more. Just like Anzu.

Final episode is out.

Ah Hinamatsuri continues to impress with the way it sells its comedy with the character cast. Glad to see the main characters appearing for the first half of the finale but I did wish Anzu got more screentime/lines. We even got to see a bit of ESP powers in action.

It's surprising to see Mao coming to mainland since her island life. The three year time skip surprised me too.

This ended up being one of the best comedy series I've watched this year. I wish it had more than 12 episodes but it is what it is. 8/10.

All of this was Mao Story prequel? When we will get a second season with the more adult girls now.

So Hina wanted use her powers to save her friends but ended in nothing..that is how is series works.

And Mao Learning real martial art but the master used it to hook more people when those were mao own powers, those will get insane when meet Hina and Anzu.

Amazing Anime, different that expected but a funny comedy of the season. 9/10

What in the name of anime was that finale? The reunion was touching, we had nice music, and then a new anime started o_O I can see where the budget went. That fight scene was nicely done.

Wow, nice way to bring it back full-circle with Mao's introduction way back in episode 1. This was my most favorite show to watch this season. Every episode was so enjoyable to watch.

Anyone else notice how one of the images in Nitta's flashbacks of Hina was of Anzu?

That was a great fun show, and I do hope we get to see the 'three years later' story. Ending the series with the sequence that started it was a nice way of bringing it full circle.

Suspect three years on Hitomi is running that bar.

It's so frustrating to have the series end now. Timeskips are pretty much always exciting, it's such a shame we didn't get to see what happened to the characters besides Mao.

Utako made it back into the OP for the last episode. Not really sure what the anime staff played at.

My only complaint about this show is that they apparently skipped a lot of chapters. This series deserved at least two cour. Other than that, it was a really fun show, full of endearing characters (and some despicable ones).

Hitomi is pretty much already running the bar, one glare and Utako immediately left to wash the dishes. That's probably all Utako does now.

Forget the bar, Hitomi will probably be owning several businesses after three years.

Please, she was running the bar by the time they got back from their winter school trip. Did you see the look she gave Utako?

And that was just near the end of their 7th grade year. Another two years of Hitomi's unfortunately fantastic luck and talent will see the bar as a mere pebble on her road.

So, overall:

28 chapters adapted, plus 2 omake skits.

The Mao episode was chapter 47, the first post-timeskip chapter. So 27 out of 46 chapters adapted pre-timeskip, leaving 19 chapters (and a fair number of omakes) unadapted.

If they'd gone for two cour, they probably could have gotten all 46 chapters done in 18 to 20 episodes, depending on how many omakes they scattered around. They then could have gotten a dozen chapters or so into the post-timeskip period, if they went for about 24 total episodes, but I don't know that that would have been a very good stopping point.

Anyway, despite missing a couple chapters I really wish they could have gotten to, I have no complaints about any of the ones they did do. They did an excellent job throughout. I just hope someday we'll get more.
