if you get a chance, check out the original OVA series on DVD, even if you watch it after seeing the ep.s in this series; it's worthwhile IMO.

That was one of the reasons I totally dislike the OAVs, the humor was trivial at best for me, and I found it totally pointless.

I wonder about the direction of plot. Although the premise seems humorous the manga is actually sci-fi action with serious plots (like the mangaka's previous work Patlabour). The anime will probably go with original plots. ie we wont get to see Birdy's step dad in action.

After watching the first subbed episode, I really really like this one! I am so in love with the way shinon talks (however you spell it), its so cute. I think that most people who are watching this understand so much more than I do at the time. Its a new world for me, so I'm enjoying the ride! Well birdy is so bad ass, I can see why someone was wondering if she will overpower all her opponents... wow... she is so strong and sexy... I'm glad I am watching this one But just like everyone else said the animation is pretty good, but op and ed are nothing special, in my opinion.

I just watched the first episode of this new series. I watched the original OVA so long ago, I barely remember it. In truth, I decided not to re-watch to refresh my memory because I wanted to go into this with a clean slate. It was really good. I didn't think I would like it 'cause I remembered not really caring for the original, but this turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to the next episode!

Episode 2 is out...

Compared to what I remember of the OVA, some rather unexpected changes...

Spoiler for ep 2:

I'm not sure how the new manga series is going, but seems like a number of significant things have changed.

Enjoying the ride so far though

Ep 2 was great. While the animation is obviously lower in quality (well, more in the action, the designs are consistent) it was just as amusing and fun.

I'm sticking to my opinion that Senkawa sucks.
^^

At least the action was still pretty fun, if also a lot less impressive.

So, remake with a younger partner. I wasn't disappointed. Animation was top and the music was hip. Nothing to complain about so far.

There are a lot of little references to the manga in this show if anyone is wondering. Us manga fans should start compiling these soon.

Well i've read all the raws of birdy right up to the current chapter. The only chapters i've read in english though are the first two, so here's hoping that the anime's popularity gets people to scanlate the manga in the same way soul eater's anime got more people to scanlate it's manga.
