Episode 7:

Lol this week's episode was priceless. Well, I think the competition was good. Ryo and Akira are obviously good at what they do so a draw isn't surprising. (Ryo might of overreacted at the results though)

Meanwhile, this also brings up the interesting final for a three-way. Should be fun especially since Souma is looking forward to the match too. Honestly, I liked Akira's dish better as I'm not familiar with eels.

You're seriously missing out. Unagi is one of the most savory dish in all of Japanese food.

(although admittedly a lot of that has to do with the sauce rather than the meat. )

I like the reactions much better in this episode. They both deserve praise, especially compared to last week's tamed expressions.

Well, now I know why I couldn't predict who the winner will be. That's because they both are equal and ended up as a tie.

It won't matter, as stated before, since Souma will defeat them in the end, and then off to the battle with Erina. Speaking of Erina, I'm actually quite surprised she didn't call security to escort Souma out after he invited himself into her VIP lounge. I guess she is warming up to him, even if he is her most hated person. Then again, there is a thin line between love and hate.

I also loved how Souma noticed Erina's teleportation skills in the end there.

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Eel is not exactly my favorite dish for Japanese cuisine. I can eat it, but given the choice to eat or pass, I usually pass. Different taste for different people.

However, to go from eel to Pacific Saury in the final battle? I would imagine this to be a difficult battle, since Pacific Saury is not a very easy ingredient to cook fantastic dishes with. The only method that I myself find decent for Pacific Saury is grilled. Even then, there are better ingredient choices. This will be interesting to see if they will make something that will sound appetizing to me.

Episode 7

Lol Hayama was training by identifying different spices placed in plates just by their smell. And Ryo was training by doing push-ups. The fight was pretty intense. Hayama seemed to have the upper hand with his fragrant duck dish but then Ryo started to come out on top with his eel, extreme rudeness and explosives. The result is a draw which is super convenient for Soma since he is getting his second chance at beating Hayama and Ryo since it was pretty much a tie during the prelims. Now the few episodes will focus on the training sessions for the three as they try to use their special skills to come up with a destructive recipe.

I don't mind 3-ways lol, but that might have been the most forced 3-way I've participated in...

I know the OP theme spoils it but it didn't flow well how it all played out in the end...Subjectively I'd say Ryo won that, however sobeit...

It also appeared Soma used some Subaru tactics as he got plenty usable data from the cousins...

But in all seriousness lets get to the most important thing of the episode :
Onion Kuribo FTW^^

I hope they conclude the finals next week so I can get the arc that comes after this.

Next episode will probably be prep for the finals. Granted I haven't read the manga so dunno how it flows there, but I wouldn't expect the actual competition to be next week.

I actually didn't see a threeway final coming, but I'm also not necessarily surprised. It was a delightful enough twist.

Not really, it's the semifinals of a very important tournament and the judges all have established themselves as chefs. Being unable to decide, especially when your vote is the deciding one, means they could have picked a better judge for this - in comparison, watch the old man from Takumi's match, he could have decided not to vote for Subaru's dish, but ultimately fulfilled his role as a judge objectively.

Taking this into consideration, Ryo getting mad was perfectly normal.

To be fair it was Tootsuki's fault in choosing a recent graduate (like literally she graduated a year ago) for a job they normally ask industry veterans.

Episode 8:

More like a buildup and transition rather than the actual match.

I really like how Souma tried to get everyone together to boost a bit of his own morale. And not just that, I think he came up with a good idea for the match. Good for him. Also, Alice's mother showed up! What a beauty!

I've holding back for too long, is anybody else annoyed with how they use the word "umami" as if it's a real thing?

You'd rather prefer them using "Savoryness"?
As long as we know the meaning, isn't it enough?

Oh well, it's best for us to agree to disagree.
I have no problems with "Umami", so it's ok.

They talk about it in peer reviewed science journals and all, what more do you want?

(The emphasis the series put on it can be annoying, yes, but that's not the same as saying it doesn't exist.)
