How I came to this show?

It was thanks due to Divine's recommendation when I checked randomc.net Blog at the start of the past season, praising the first episode for its wacky silliness but palpable story.

Recently, I'm not been in tune to watch after seinen comedies, and Zombie was my first seinen comedy in months after B Gata H Kei ended.

Beneath the silly wackiness, locket-room sexual fantasies, and the Willy E. Coyote-like mishaps, there's a story both palpable and grounded by it's not-so clichéd and yet inconventional characters.

Overall, I liked the first arc (episode 1 to 6) over the second one (episodes 7 to the end). Kyouko firmly and steadily made her place amongst the most remarkable female villains in otaku anime culture.

Too bad that after the sixth episode she completely disappeared from the storyline.

Either she's bidding her time to exact revenge on our heroines and Ayumu, or anything else...

Every time that Ayumu's masou-shoujo full transformation sequence was depicted on-screen I lol hysterically while exclaiming nae, to which in otaku culture idiom is the diametrically opposite to moe.

Sweet surprises I got at the end, when Eu finally spoke her words for the first time ever in the show.

Congratulations for the people who did this anime adaptation, and seriously the ending to the very last episode reeks or gives illusion to scream for a second season.

Just marathon'd it over at CR...first winter series I finished (my gosh, I'm behind the times). It was...fun.

The show has a mix of highs and lows. It started out pretty strongly; it continued to be enjoyable for much of it, and I found it to be pretty funny overall; but I had many moments where the show's pacing just failed and/or the script felt like it was cutting out something important.

I thought the murder mystery behind Ayumu's murder was a strong way to get the show on the road, but the conclusion of a psycho killer girl being responsible was, eh, okay I guess. I wasn't expecting something spectacularly better anyway. This show wasn't ever going to become Monster or somesuch.

The first few episodes had pretty good pacing overall. It was funny in the funny scenes and dramatic in the dramatic scenes, while the action scenes mix both effectively. Yuu's drama was the most compelling and this remains true throughout. Aww, *hugs*.

Haruna is the typical mahou-- err, masou shoujo who's the catalyst and energy to push the protagonist and the show out the door. Yuu is the moe instant fan-favorite one who's always been there first (and in a happy reversal of roles both the show and Ayumu himself gives more interest to the quiet fan-favorite one, FOR ONCE). Sera just appeared and fit in, lol.

Masou shoujo Ayumu is great fun. That wasn't a kick!

My first disappointing moment was during the battle with Psycho Shoujo, which went very strange at the end. Why did Ayumu just let himself be hit as he walked up to finish off the girl? There was no reason he needed to pull out the self-sacrificing act. Why did the powerful Kyouko suddenly got weak enough to let him, well, slaughter her? Well okay I explained it away for myself saying that being repeatedly killed by Yuu would put her off balance, but frankly I didn't want to have to make that excuse for myself in the first place; the script was messed up around here. Finally why did he spare her after the chainsaw massacre act? To be sure it was a wise decision in retrospect (he would have been cut short, brutally), but he didn't know that and moreover at the moment he wasn't showing any intentions of carrying out the Hero's Mercy. Again mood breaker.

But overall the first arc was quite excellent.

The second arc suffers increasingly from a degree of blurriness. First the swiftness of Yuki's introduction/role was awkward. She went deredere over him; Haruna (who hasn't really shown much overt romantic interest in Ayumu before) suddenly got super jealous. Lolwut? I actually like her character but she just doesn't fit in all that well, I blame...well read on.

But it was worse during her dramatic moment in the episode where they all went out for a date. It happened SO FAST that I was like, "err, mood whiplash?" That was so forced. We *just* get to know the girl. I wasn't even sure what the hell happened (was it because of the sudden injury that that weird self-defense mechanism activated? Why did it aim at the heroes? How did the characters realized what needed to be done so quickly? WHY WAS IT SO SUDDENLY DRAMATIC, WAS SHE GOING TO BE KILLED ALREADY!?

The second part mixes comedy and tense drama with awkward results, IMO. The gray-haired pretty boy antagonist wasn't as compellingly evil as psycho girl earlier. I read his intentions a mile away. Shinitai tte...shitteita yo.

I was moved however at the part where he just let himself blown up over a broken heart (anyone would want to die if lovely quiet little Yuu would leave you like that, including the antagonist! lol). Oh yeah and he saved the girls and scored more love points. Not a bad deal for an immortal zombie. The scene however was somewhat ruined by how the vampire ninja battle squad just stood around and gawked. GUYS, THERE'S A BOMB!

The last battle was also somewhat awkwardly scripted. Good effort, execution needs a little work (decent animation though). The silent girl speaking out was epic though. I was like, kyuuuuu-to.

The final episode was a total wtf. I suppose it was rather funny, but the randomness was a bit too much when it started going down the idol sequence. Plus the animation sucks ass.

Yuu singing was win however. Isn't it obvious I rather like the girl? She's such a, what's the term, "gap moe." Silent, cute, inexpressive, talks through cute notes, cosplays (lol), yet kind and nice and you know everyone's just hoping for that moment when she smiles. She also has a tragic past, physically weak, and is very much in distress; yet she's also the most powerful character in the series and saved Ayumu's butt more than once, including his immortality in the first place.

Haruna is...surprisingly not annoying. I was expecting worse, a meaner character and genki overload. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly she settled down nicely and showed her value many times. I was also pleasantly surprised she wasn't the one girl the show revolves around, as that is usually the case with such a character and such an introduction.

Sera is fun, too. It's good she never really develops a romantic interest in Ayumu.

So the second half wasn't as good as the first, but I still liked it overall.

A fun little series, so long as one doesn't have an overly high expectation. It's clearly a low-budget production though. Rarely has the animation been much more than serviceable and sometimes worse -- that last episode, argh, and the lame OP CGI. Music is so-so, though I dislike the overused battle theme, which works fine in a funny action scene but awkward in absolutely serious ones when the next scene is going to be a heartfelt farewell speech or something.

I'm curious, however, who is that girl at the very end? The one with ojou hair?

very impressive show. it did a good job at mixing a whole bunch of elements together and having it work out well too.

Just finished with this series and frankly that was just ridiculously crazy or crazy ridiculous but the ridiculous kind that you can fully enjoy like Sengoku Basara.

And I gotta admit I lost no love for this show more so I gain more for it.
The story was a tad half-baked but in the end I didn't care for any of it's faults or flaws cause I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The last ep was not what I was expected but i can't deny I loved it

One of the things I loved was Ayumu's "Onii-chan" fantasies, he's oddly desperate for attention in that regard but I can't blame him

To my surprise I find I got a MC thats constantly surrounded by beauties that I don't feel like punching for being such a idiot(in the annoying way)
But then I guess I'm envious of the fact he's surrounded by all the beauties I might just punch him out of spite

If I did have any niggle with this series it was there was not enough of Taeko-chan(the lovely pig-tailed lass), I took an instant liking to her when I first saw her and saddens me a little that we didn't get anywhere with her but what can you do.

All I can do now is hope we get a 2nd season cause damn this series deserves one!

Well we knew it was getting a 13th episode a while ago back when it started airing at least. So the announcement has to be about something else.

Besides, episode 13 is scheduled on June 3. If the announcement is due for June 10, which is a week later, there must be a reason behind it. Like: "now that it's all settled, we're going to tell you that..." ... fill the sentence as you wish

Second season is confirmed.
This is somewhat surprising to me, I'd say this is a combination of not terrible DVD/BD sales(think Vol.1 was around 4k), increased light novel sales, and it probably didn't hurt that the first season got licensed.
Well the 1st season was a decently entertaining show, so I'm looking forward to the second.
