I mentioned before about what I noticed on AniDB regarding airing dates, but now I remembered of going to check a japanese airing schedule accessible for all series from AniDB... The airing dates there are the same as usual, 1st and 3rd of each month... What the heck...
EDIT: Now I understand what's happening here... What a drag... «13th and 14th episodes received premiere screening 2014-12-27 at the Aeon Cinema. Regular airing 13th: 2015-01-03, 14th: 2015-01-17.» I should have checked throughly before going around running my mouth off... |

While I personally think that the first arc of the manga is the weakest out of the bunch, but I never remember it to be so godawful as this episode made it out to be. If knowing that adding the whole subplot about the Inner Senshis being in love with the 4 Kings makes it all so cringe-worthy and emotionless then I would rather not have it just like the original source. It just felt like even the voice actors did not even bother to try in those scenes because the new additional scenes are forced on them as well. And lol, if Queen Metalia is so powerful she could kill the 4 Kings like bugs in just one strike then it's so stupid she didn't do so to the Senshis sooner. Really, plot holes in this anime are usually the ones that should have never existed at all.
And the suicide scene is, on the contrary, true to the source, yet it is the one that I disliked the most in the manga and wanted it to get changed the most. Yet they still keep it after adding all the determined Usagi talking about "I'm not going to be a tragic princess anymore!". I let up my hope on nothing.

I have to say, for all the hype with the revival of Sailor Moon which should be one of the biggest thing to happen in 2014 in anime fandom or even general geek/pop-culture fandom, so far this ended up disappointingly half-baked. I can't even wrap my head on how and why things are the way they are besides going "hurrrr, Toei."

Spoiler for Beryl:
As for the Shitennou bit, I feel they shouldn't have added this 4x4 romance thing. I mean, it would be more believable if there was only one pairing, Venus x Kunzite. But not the other 3 as well, that's overkill. At the rate they're going with this arc which is 1 chapter per episode, there's no way they could've fit in this side plot well because of limited screen time. I thought that was a poor decision the writer/director had. Spoiler for Shitennou:
I think one thing Crystal executed really well was Mamoru and Usagi's relationship. |

I'll keep watching a couple more episodes and then I'll drop this without any regret unless it miraculously improve with the next arc.
All the changes made in the anime sound like they have been for the worse, the animation sucks, the character design sucks, Usagi's voice acting sucks. There's absolutely not reason to watch this over reading the manga.

Well the scouts had to get over it fast and rush to Sailor Moon. So yeah, they had to cry for a few minutes (in anime time, which was seconds in viewer time).
I was going "Aw. man! They lost their boyfriends just when they got them back." when Queen Metalia one-shotted them. I had no problems with this episode.
