I'm looking for a specific anime wherein the hero gets continuously praised for something he didn't do. An anime of misunderstandings wherein the glory always goes to the hero. or simply an overglorified protagonist. Anyone know any? thanks.

Paranoia Agent might fit into that. Perhaps not in terms of heroes, but the rest of that, yes.

Captain Tylor is a great show that may or may not fit what you're asking for. The show makes it ambiguous as to whether he's ridiculously lucky or whether he really is a tactical genius.

It's not an anime but you may be interested in reading the Liveship Traders Trilogy.

The protagonist in question is actually a villian but is seen as something of a hero for things he didn't do intentionally.

Well for the over-glorified protag part:

Lupin the 3rd – There’s so many episodes and movies I wouldn’t know where to start, but the main protagonist Lupin III, wins all the time and it’s usually a combination of dumb luck and tactical brilliance…He’s by far the most over-glorified main character there is in anime and I love every minute of him winning because he wins so jazzy^^….

Gintama (Although it is more comedy)– Gintoki is pretty much revered as the strongest in-universe character of the title characters yet other than some cool OP images and some obscure references to the past we really don’t know why, but in the end he pretty much wins against everyone---sometimes in supreme fashion…

I’m actually gonna have to mull over some more titles because I know I’ve seen some animes based on this direct topic, but I can’t think of anymore right now T_T…

Definitely Angel Densetsu, seconded. Kitano is the King of overglorified protaganists, Angel Densetsu is fantastically fun

Arguably TTGL's Kamina falls in this category.

Trigun's Vash the Stampede is also one of these. It's the whole reason he's an infamous gunman labeled as a natural disaster despite being a pacifist.

Dragonball Z's mister Saten (Hercule) also applies but he's only a minor character.

Yu-Gi-Oh's main characters in general because the save the world playing childeren's card games.

I have yet to see an anime where a character was famous for absolutely no reason.
