Yes, that's true. However, the book describes how we still have a systematic oppression of minority groups using otherwise colorblind laws and policies, reinforced by racial and social stereotypes, but codified through the socioeconomic disadvantages most minority groups find themselves having. The book essentially calls for a new Civil Rights Movement to combat the changing system of control.

Garrison Keillor's The Book of Guys, which is, well...exactly what it says on the tin.

How was World War Z like? I have it on my to-read list but was a bit put off by the second half of the zombie survival guide. While the guide itself was fun I wasn't too captivated by the small stories at the end so I don't know what to expect from that second book.

Just wolfed down Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion, and before that, The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. I've been meaning to read him for a while, and I've finally had time to make good on it.

As for me, I'm currently reading a book I found for free on the Kindle Store written by Bryan Davis called Eternity's Edge. Pretty good read so far. I'm not 100% sure what's going on in the storyline so far, but it has to do with interdimentional travel and lots of awesome fight sequences.

Anyway I'm not in North America so I can't really go to a Barnes and Noble but I'll check if there's a kindle sample or something.

Finished Atom by Lawrence M. Krauss. Very good book. Little bit outdated on the ultimate fate of the universe part, but it's nothing major.
Basically the book is the story of a single oxygen atom from the big bang 'till the end of the universe. Of course, the atom takes part in some exciting events, such as the final moments of a star and development of life on Earth. Reading this was a very humbling experience. Up next: Something about particle physics, or maybe Richard Feynman's QED. |
