I can't answer your questions kukuru without spoilers.
Even pointing out hints would be a spoiler at this point.

So please, just TAKE MY WORD that you're simply getting ahead of yourself.
Not by much, mind you, and I have answers to all your questions, do you want me to send you a PM or something?

A great deal. You praise academics, so don't forget history: its full of insanely loyal pre-industrial examples. Spartans, Legionaires, Templars, Janissaries, Mamelukes, Samurai, Persian Immortals, Hannibal's army was very, very loyal, etc etc.

I'm surprised at Itami. Despite how he acts, the guy is quite calculating. I was half expecting him to abandon his position to go help/rescue the townspeople on the East gate but, instead, he uses this as a way to leverage with the Princess.

That Princess is really naive. I suspect that her father sent her out on this errand as a way to get rid of her. He probably intended for her to encounter the Japanese forces and die like all the other Lords and nobles he disliked.

I'm much more interested about the new world and how they deal with things. I can't wait to see how those military people are going to react to Magics.

I'm liking Pina's character. Last week it looks like she was a little shaken up after visiting that king/general. Now she's not only in her first battle, she's in command. I like how seriously she's taking it, and she's fairly down-to-earth for a princess, but then having a concubine as a mother probably helps with that.

I'm also liking the Sergeant Major more, too. (Pops)

We don't know they don't have gates to yet more worlds. They had one and they sent creatures from at least one (Dragons) and probably more (Orcs, Ettins) different evolutionary trees through the gate, implying that there are more gates, that the initial aggressive force controls the other side of.

So the analysts can't rule out the current existance of more assault forces of the same size as the ones that have attacked Tokyo or the gate with heavier nonhuman components that are inbound from the worlds those non-humans come from.

No military analyst is going to claim there is no chance of another attack given the proven existance of multiple worlds. Especially since the Empire has thrown a hundred thousand troops a month at them already.

Which implies they either have better logisitics and infastructure than any premodern state or enough resorces that they can afford the wastage. And either means they have or can raise more field forces.

Also, are we even watching the same show? The invasion by the empire and the battle on Alnus hill points strongly to the depiction of war and the atrocities that were committed by both sides. Those are pretty major and dark undertones for the series. I think there's a reason why the JSDF are involved and not just some teenage Gary Stu like Outbreak Company.
GATE is just as terribly written as Outbreak Company though.

Actually he's a bit old for a 2nd Lieutenant which he was when the show started, assuming he joined the JSDF at age 21 or so, right out of college and did 18 months or two years of OCS before being commissioned. He is unambitious but not incompetent but since the JSDF doesn't seem to operate on an "up or out" basis he was happy to stay in that niche. His superiors put him forward for all sorts of advanced training which he greased through and that sort of flag on his record should have put him in front of promotion boards but didn't.

The others in his platoon are a more typical spread of ages, including Pops.
