Well, the adaptation was awful.

You can praise the usual praiseworthy elements like seiyuu performance, some OST and whatnot, but the rest was just a disservice to the manga. Although totally not unsurprising.

I could listen to Miyuki Sawashiro or seiyuu hamming it up all day but who in their right mind would adapt a manga all about epic fights and then make it into a slideshow ?

I've never read the manga. I thought I would get to see epic fights, instead I got Cheerleading: the anime with bits of horribly animated and choreographed battles instead. To be fair, I've only seen the first fight. Maybe the rest will be better.

Oh, and Netflix only subbed the on-screen text one time out of ten. Kind of a problem when said text introduces characters.

So I watched this, I did enjoyed it a lot. If you are a high critic of animation then yes you will find a problem with this and there is not that much plot, only a tournament between gods and mankind, maybe there is something with hermes and odin but who knows.

Spoiler for battles:

Lu bu vs Thor

only brute force, the strongest vs the strongest, of the three battles this was the one I dislike the most. I didn't like this version of thor and that "alive" mjolnir. I did like the Lu bu flash back of him piercing the sky with his training and the fact they became friends at the end and thor was sad for lu bu death

Adam vs Zeus

Adam was great, a true father and humanity ace, too bad he faced the last boss because zeus whim, if not that adam would've beat any of the other gods, he was humanity greatest and he was such a nice guy and father. Adam was my favorite.

Kojiro vs Poseidon

Nice battle and I liked the kojiro story of him being the greatest loser and his first win was against a god, and the way they overhype poseidon making him like he was the same as zeus, the victory was sweeter and even more since poseidon was a dick.

Jack vs Hercules

Just a teaser but jack looked so awesome, so I´ll jump to the manga.

I've never been a fan of super big boobs but there was a charm on aphrodite bust with those statue guys holding them lol.

8/10. I'll read the manga.

Geez... this is now the second, maybe third? anime that was HYPED in the past year... and flopped horribly.

Is everyone online riding the hype train too much and thus it ends in in disaster? Because this kind of thing seems to be happening a lot lately.

The following two fights were huge improvements over the first. The animation still sucked, but Adam and Kojiro were very compelling characters. And they actually spent time showing us the fights instead of people cheering.

Adam versus Zeus was one of my favorite fights and looking at the scene I feel like Mr Corleone looking at his son's corpse and saying: "They massacred my boy".

By the way, who created Adam? They made a point to tell us Zeus was the "father of the cosmos" and created everything (which is not true) yet he apparently had no idea who Adam was.

The first fight is considered the worst of the series, maybe the author was afraid the manga would be canceled at the beginning and tried to do something basic. Lu bu currently has a spin-off, I believe it's to make up for that.

Personally, I don't think it's the worst. It has the courtesy of being the shortest fight in the manga currently by page count.

The anime simply fucked up its pacing to drag the adaptation out to 12 episodes. Not a single fight scene happens in Chapter 1, just introductions. Yet, Episode 1 already starts the fight and ends the episode around 1/3 of Chapter 2, in a fight that ends in Chapter 6. Nice, surely it means that the fight ends in Episode 3. Nope.

Episode 2 gets the backstories out of the way, 3 chapters are left. Not even long chapters, and they have plenty of action.

Yet, somehow, for some reason, 2 episodes are wasted on to conclude this fight, both adaptating about 1.5 chapters. Damn. No wonder anime onlies hated sitting through this fight. -__-

In my opinion, the "worst" fight is the one that ended recently in the manga.

The manga is hyped for a good reason, it's a really fun battle manga. It's not the source material's fault that this was badly paced and had mediocre animation. I honestly wasn't expecting much based on the PVs since all the cuts just looked average at best... If MAPPA had been in charge and gave this the same love that JJK got....

Had to check twice to see if it was JC Staff behind the animation wwww
