Naruto and Bleach are the two BEST action animes hands down. Both of them are my favorites. Although the filler episodes (which are episodes that have nothing to do with the storyline) are boring, you could just skip over them... Otherwise, they both very cool animes! ^____^ Not too much blood and gore, not too many people getting killed. Fits your description perfectly. There's more than 100 episodes in each one (still continuing) so ya better be ready!

naruto and bleach aren't great in my opinion cuz they are extremely repetative which gets on my nerves personally best action animes you can find out there are prolly Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Outlaw Star, Karas ( yes lots of blood sorry), appleseed seems pretty cool idk just watched the movie and it was pretty damn good if i do say so myself, ah yes a few more for the series.. cowboy bebob, trigun, full metal alchemist.. back to movies, akira and ninja scroll ( once again lots of blood) but really just stating my opinion on this o all of these series besides full metal are only 26 episodes or shorter which actually ends up making for a really good story believe it or not.. no fillers * points at bleach / naruto* consistent story , incredible art work which i actually will give naruto it does have decent art but i think it lacks in a story all honestly really if you want your mind blown to pieces by an anime .. please check out tengen toppa gurren lagann.. i was skeptical at first but now i've seen the series 5 times and still get chills watching the final episode.

Gundam Seed: mecha anime with action, very good
Get Backers: very good characters with Mido Ban, Akabane Kurodo or Kagami Kyoji.
Gungrave: Really good story (except the 2nd part) with a lot of action!
Hellsing: A lot of action, awesome hero

I wouldn't consider Gunslinger Girl to be action. More a character drama with action on the side.
