whoa this forum's been quite political lately
but man Bush's popularity just keeps plummeting.... free speech again.....I can understand both sides and I'll try not to start a political argument, those tend to get overheated, but I like the last paragraph,
Quote:
Is the administration seeking to stifle domestic criticism? Absolutely. Is it carrying out a war on dissent? Probably not—yet. But the trend lines in federal attacks on freedom of speech should raise grave concerns to anyone worried about the First Amendment or about how a future liberal Democratic president such as Hillary Clinton might exploit the precedents that Bush is setting.

That is horrendously scarey. A "free speech zone" to stifle free speech. (Go speak freely in a place where we don't have to worry about anyone hearing you.) The Bush Administration really loves its word-play.

PS. I'm going to have to change this thread's title so that people will have a clue what it is about.

Political eh.. I will restrain myself of any statment just by the fact I hate every single one of them and you people should do the same. That only leeds to flame wars. Its true. If I was to talk a bit more about it with someone, I'd say absolutly anything just to argue about something I just want to believe in. Whatever the argument are.. No body should talk political if they don't know EXACTLY what they're talking about. So since I don't.. and that politic isn'T a exact science..

I'ld say it could be worse. If Bush was able to go against opposing free speech like in china, I would be concerned.
Does anybody know how loud one has to speak to be heard over half a mile away? ;D

yea i see what you mean...I love history and I love politics but I hate discussing politics b/c I find it.....how should put it....just futile It's just trying to persuade someone to adopt your own views when the person is trying to do the same to you....and you both have contradicting views....otherwise you wouldn't be discussing in the first place.....
but I always like hearing what people think about it, that's just part of being well informed.

What little respect I had for Bush has vanished. Then again, don't most presidents do this?

no. Usually the protestors are right alongside the supporters.

right now even with this i still believe bush is a hell of a lot better than kerry would be. think what would have happened if gore was in during 9/11, that would be the scariest thing other than that flash thing sladex had under his sig.

<edit> here's the link, have fun

also, wear headphones when you see it, it makes the experience all the better</edit>

I remember a friend of mine sending me this link months ago, it's a wonder that such actions don't get reported by the media more often.

I'm sure most Americans aren't even aware this is going on.

I thought all zones were free speech zones?

This is bs. Please don't bring politics into this. You don't know how Gore/Kerry would have/will respond, any more than you would know how a different Republican would have responded, if he had beaten out Bush in the last election. The fact is that this is how Bush responded, end of story.

Very true. And I am not so please with how Bush actually did respond. First of all, it took him a whole week before he responded at all to 9-11. A whole week in limbo of wondering what would happen during which time the White House kept so quiet that you could only wonder if they noticed 9-11 at all... Never mind this really isn't the thread to get into this nonsense. Let's get back on topic.

The point here is that it is wrong for him to create a place to put all the protesters where they can be segregated and ignored. By doing this he manages to create a false sense of unilateral agreement with his policies. Not to mention he keeps embarassing signs out of his photo shoots so that his enemies can't get any good pictures of him in front of signs protesting him.

Free speech only being allowed "over there" isn't the same as free speech. It is only free when you can say it anywhere.

I really don't have a problem with this. In fact I think it is a good idea

In most cities you need a license and special permission to hold protests. Also you face security issues. You don't want protesters mixing with Bush supporters because their is a chance that violence could break out right near where the president is.

Regardless of what the cause is, you don't want a bunch of stupid protesters in the way of an important event. This is how protesters are dealt with in many cases. Look at what goes on when an IMF meeting is held (In Europe for example). There is a designated spot for protestors far away from where things are happening. And if the protestors don't follow the rules, they are prosecuted.

I agree, we need to do something about the way our rights are being treated.

Because of this, I've written a formal, 5 page essay about our current situation and what we should do about it. Here it is for you folks to read.

The following essay has been deleted by Censorship

In conclusion,

The follwing conclusion has been modified by George W. Bush.

Dont mass wit TEXAS!!!

The thing with politics is that it puts people in the position of power. No matter how decent that person was, he will slowly become corrupt... give me one election where the candidates are hooked up to a lie detector whenever they have a politics conference.

Do I believe doing that would solve our corrupt officials? No, but it'd be very entertaining. We can pay per view it and people would be skipping Church to watch this shit. With the money we get from the pay per view, we can

I think it stinks. To me it's not really any different than when Hussain would make a television appearance and would have people with automatic weapons off camera to make sure everyone cheered him. The method may be less extreme but the principle is the same. Let's make the world think we all love our dictator.

EDIT: awsome link Raven Child! Scared the shat out of me.

Sorry to the admins for tying this thread in but it covers the other aspect of my thread. I do not want to see an america where we cant say anything about politics and religon and so on unless the president has the same views we do.
