One does not simply replace the great Horie Yui and get away with it. Something that I was kinda disappointed about when I saw the seiyuu cast. Ah well the story is good so far and despite that I'm still enjoying it.

Choosing Kugimiya of all people to voice a violent girl with superstrength called Kagura seems like a big coincidence. I wonder if the staff are fans of Gintama.

Anyway, Kagura's real personality certainly surprised me. It's been a while since I've seen that type of character. I don't know what to make of her. She doesn't seem to be a bad person but she freaking threatened Kyo with knives so he would marry her. You'd probably end up dead in a day or two with a girl like her as your girlfriend.

Kagura is Kagura, being a genuinely bashful and insecure teenage girl one minute and a force of nature and violence the next, on-top of just being really cute. Rie Kugimiya also did a great job capturing her dual layers and immense love for Kyo .

Should we categorize Kagura as a Yandere? I mean, that scene of their "marriage promise" involving a knife was kind of quintessential Yandere .

I guess it is pretty inconvenient for someone's professional and romantic life that they can't interact with the opposite sex unless they're a fellow zodiac member (and you're lucky if you even find genuine love there anyways). I get the sense that the Sohma's probably have to invest a lot of time and effort to take care of the zodiac members because of how much of a hassle living must be for them .

Poor Kyo. He takes punishment even from the girl who's absolutely in love with him. Can't a cat catch a break ?

Also, poor Shigure's house .

It's pretty nice seeing Tohru change a love rival moment into a friendship moment .

So much foreshadowing with that Shigure line...

Tohru's "jab" moment was so adorable, as was Kyo being so enthusiastic .

That's on the mangaka. IIRC she liked the previous voice actors, but insisted the remake must use brand-new cast.

Never liked Kagura then, still don't really like her now, though in fairness probably one of the first characters to show me that you could have a female with violent yandere tendencies but without the prerequisite shitty personality.

No, she's really awful. I keep asking myself why I'm still watching this other than curiosity about a "classic." There's too much random violence for my tastes. Does it continue this way throughout the story? Or do they all grow up at some point and stop fighting?

I'll take my answer "off-the-air" if this goes too far into spoiler territory.

Well, my question really refers to Akitarou Daichi and the way he handled the character in the first series, where I don't remember hating her nearly this much. This was the first episode where I could really see what a difference he made, smoothing over the rough spots in the manga (including the comedy). For which the mangaka hates him and the entire first series.

I do agree there's too much random violence, though not so much when Kagura isn't present that it's a deal-breaker for me. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that there's a lot of character growth over the course of the series, though.
