[Game] Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru - Ep. 6 Dawn of the golden witch

Sorry for no summaries yesterday. Been busy with med school and diarrhea and all.

And so the game officially begins:

Spoiler for Ep6 summaries:

- Chijou asks Ange what she thinks of the story so far. Ange is absorbed in the story. She finds the love sacrifice of the 6 people rather shrewd. Chijou says it's sort of by chance that there were six lovers and six sacrifices.
- Ange wonders how people could actually believe this, like a UFO. She reiterates how people again say that love is needed to see the truth. Ange thinks that the concept of love is the theme of this story.
- Chijou says that writers often have a purpose in using such writing styles, in order to enforce a point. Ange remembers how the games often had sections where the idea of love was explored. She mentions specific events, like Ep2 and Ep5 events.
- Ange says while she often expresses the ideas of love, it doesn't seem to involve the relationship between Maria and Beato. Chijou apparently has her own answer for that (?). Ange says she really didn't come here to read on romance. She wants answers.
- Chijou says something about Ange not understanding it (not sure who actually says that piece of dialogue). Ange is described as impatient which is why she isn't getting what the text says.
- Ange apparently thinks that Chijou's is one of those who may have arrived at the truth of the events. They both talk about how the number of "infinite witches" makes the story more complicated. A bunch of text before and after I couldn't understand.
- From what I can tell, it is suggested that people who reach the truth are comparable to "infinite witches" because they can use it to spin the story as they see fit.
-Chijou says she noticed some hostility in Ange. Ange says she has to admit that there might be some truth in the stories she has written.
- Ange admits to herself that she needs to try and understand the viewpoints of others in order to explore the possibilities. Chijou says that as the last surviving heir of the family, she sort of becomes the infinite witch as well, in she becomes someone who understands the truth of the story.
- Chijou says something about inviting Ange so she could also try and learn. Chijou also seems to want to see what Ange's POV is.

MetaWorld
- Erika yawns. She wants to know if the first twilight has happened yet. Battler says things are underway. Clock strikes about 1:10 am.
- Someone knocks on Erika's door. She says something about a detective's rights and Battler at least seems to allow her. The two other witches arrive and they all talk about the past game. Beato1 thinks it was a draw of sorts (?).
- They talk stuff about the detective's rights and declarations. Lambda says something about a disadvantage. Beato1 says it's disrespectful (?).
- Lambda and Bern talk about how Erika is supposed to have the detective's rights, and that if she is defeated here then she's a useless piece to be thrown into some hell of a kakera. Bern seems to want the game to be impartial, to let a regular human try and break the witch's fantasy and not rely on some superman. Lambda adds something I didn't really get.
- Battler agrees to their terms. He asks if Erika's fine with it, and she says she wants to regain her honor. She insists she will break the witch's side.
- Lambda restates the detective's right to use the blue and demand an answer. Bern says something about how giving up the game should equal a defeat. Battler accepts these.
- Bern says she wants the game to start cause she's bored.

Rokkenjima 1986
- Jessica and George knock on Erika's room. They ask where Battler and Maria are, and if they were here. Erika asks if they checked the mansion. Jessica says they would have just phoned the house if they needed anything.
- Erika smirks. She wants to check the house. George says she shouldn't. She says something about the island being a closed island now, and that there may be someone suspicious about, and that she wants to check around. Erika runs out.
- Erika mumbles about how it seems to have started now rather than in the morning, and how it seems things will unfold in the mansion. Erika is ecstatic.
- She enters the house. The front door is unlocked. She pretty much barges her way into the house in joy as Gohda comes out of the drawing room. He's in a sheer panic. He says they need to call an ambulance and the police.
- Erika feigns concern and says they can't with the storm. She's clearly enjoying this. The sound of Krauss and Rudolph screaming are heard.

MetaWorld
- Erika asks for the scene reconstruction. Battler will explain.
- Battler says that after the meeting, the other adults left the drawing room. The door was closed and was unopened. The door is opened outwards and there is a bolt from inside. Erika asks if the door and the windows have to be shut from the inside, rhetorical since this is obvious. Battler says Rosa was found lying in an unnatural way on the sofa with a head wound. They broke the glass to get in and then found Maria's mangles body on the wall.
- Battler says the door was unlocked because Gohda came out when they broke in. They assume there was someone in the house who managed to kill Rosa and Maria and escaped the locked room. The adults are searching the house.
- Erika asks if the position of the bodies are the same as the one shown in the "witche's illusion" (her words, not mine). Battler says the bodies' positions are the same. It is the same for Natsuhi in her room and Kyrie in Krauss' study. Eva, who was killed in rose garden in the witch's presentation, was found in the special guest room on the second floor. Five victims so far.
- Erika asks who the sixth is.

Rokkenjima 1986
- Gohda, Krauss and Rudolph pound on a guestroom door. They think there's a murderer on the loose and are armed with the rifles. Gohda opens the door with a cutter. Rudolph rushes in as Krauss opens the lights.
- Rudolph finds a body on one of the beds. It is Battler. Rudolph finds Battler dead inside the guest room.
- Yes folks, piece Battler is dead during the twilights for the first time. Notice also how the room looks like the room of that guy who was trapped.

I'm of two minds on Miss Au Au. If she's anything like Hanyuu, then she'll assist everyone in reaching the truth and in return allow them to escape the island, because that was the reason Hanyuu was brought into play in the latter (and especially the final) episode of Higurashi.
But at the same time, if she is a friend of Bern (as some people have speculated she's the person who Bern wrote the letter in the extra TIPS to), then she will certainly not assist anyone stand against Bern.
I'm more for the first one, and I think she wrote the stories of the next episodes with her human piece so that everyone could learn of the other hints about the true culprit.

I don't think she has any affect on the games (aside from naming Bern the GM). The "everyone" I mentioned was people outside the island, in Ange's time (including Ange). She wanted to show the real truth of what happened, but she wanted to avoid putting suspicion on her human piece, so she wrote the different episodes, like how Beato did the same for the different episodes, to allow people to add up the common clues and arrive at the truth themselves. She is the way the truth of Rokkenjima can reach the real world.
As bad as it may sound, I feel it is like Ryuukishi writing his role into the games. He allows the truth of Rokkenjima to reach us, Miss Au Au allows the truth to reach the rest of his in-game world.

Well my understanding of Japanese is quite pitiful at the moment, so I haven't had re opportunity to read the ura-tea party. But I never said she had to be nice like Hanyuu. I was just drawing the similar characteristics of the two. If she's a twisted crazy bitch like the other witches than she fits well with the rest of them. It still doesn't shake the fact that she exists to uncover the truth.

First summary for today.

Events before the first official battle of Ep6:

Spoiler for Ep6 summaries:

- Krauss searches the room and finds nobody hiding. He is shocked someone killed Battler in a locked room. He says he can't believe all the room people were killed in could be called locked rooms. He wonders if they were all suicides.
- Rudolph refuses to believe they were suicides.

MetaWorld
- Side scene Erika is surprised and amused that Battler himself would be the 6th victim. Beato1 says that all the rooms are locked rooms, and you would need magic to commit murder. Erika is of course skeptical.
- The game is fair so the human side should have a fair chance at attacking the witch's side. It can't be a game if this isn't possible. If there is a trick then it should be able to be reproduced. All of the murders should be possible by human means.
- Side scene Ange begins to remember her breakdown with her classmates in school. She wondered why they weren't able to kill them. She understands what Mammon meant at the time.
- Ange believes that magic should be able to accomplish things only if a human can too. The reason the stakes couldn't kill her classmates was because she couldn't kill them herself. Maria used to say that it is because there was too many toxins from people.
- Ange attaches this to the fact that there are observers. She could have done it if no one watched her kill her classmates, even if she did it one by one.
- Featherine finds Ange's view interesting, that magic is only "possible" if the person wielding it could have done the act without using magic in the first place.
- Ange describes how in the long run, with more games and more revelations on the truth, it is the magic side that gets more disadvantaged. This again calls into question why Beato prolonged the games.

Rokkenjima 1986
- Hideyoshi and the kids are in the guesthouse. The adult family members are talking in the hall. Erika is inspecting the murder scenes. For some reason she apparently isn't exercising her detective authority during inspection.
- She gets a map of the house from the servant's quarters. She rushes around the murder scenes.
- Side scene Dlanor talks to Erika and cautions her. She cautions her not to be cheated in the game, and make good use of a photoraphic memory. Dlanor says she should inspect properly and get Battler to confirm the situations properly. Erika will use the blue when she needs to.
- Erika talks about a handicap I didn't get. She says she will be ready to face Battler.
- Erika relates the murder sites and how they are insisted to be locked rooms, and that you'd need a master key if you didn't have the originals for each room. The windows are locked from the inside and there is a chain lock.
- She's pissed off at her previous failures but will make sure she doesn't make mistakes now. At the end Dlanor says she will summarize what they have learned.
- All rooms are locked with a chain, the windows locked from the inside. The rooms are designed to be sealed rooms so as to prevent outside interference. The only exception is the drawing room where Rosa and Maria were found. Her servants say the drawing room is bolted and must be bolted from the inside, and isn't the same as chain lock that can be cut. The drawing room is made to be a sealed room where even a master key won't work. She finds it interesting that the other rooms were locked with chains that could be cut if you managed to pry open the door after using a key.
- Erika finds the fact that the drawing room setup is different to be suspicious. She wants to focus on that. She also is worried that she doesn't seem to have the detective authority to confirm the life or death status of the victims. Servants say she cannot confirm the absoluteness of their deaths. They cannot also deny the possibility of faked deaths.

MetaWorld
- Side scene Lambda draws a similarity to Beato's previous 6 sealed room series. Bern says they should see if Battler made a mistake they can find. Bern says they should also see to the fact if the victims really are dead. They debate on the possible methods, but also wonder if the sealed room statuses have even been confirmed as true.
- Lambda asks if they should get it in red. Bern says not yet. They discuss more on the rooms and find them highly amusing. They also discuss the actual times of death of the victims, and the red should confirm them.
- They wonder of Erika can find the truth despite the lack of detective authority. They mock Erika. They again talk about the game with Beato and Battler, and Bern says she wants this to end it all. Erika and Battler should just tear at each other. Lambda says she wanted to play with Bern for eternity. Bern says she (they?) will just find something else after.
- Narrator says the rooms are complete and the events are murders. Narrator admits it is not stated in red as of yet because the witches don't want to be bored so early.
- Battler asks Erika if she's had enough inspecting. Erika says it should be enough, and asks if he's ready for the blue and red. Battler says it's fine. They go about the rules again.

First Twilight, First Duel
- Erika summons Dlanor to reconfirm the sealed rooms. Dlanor reconfirms the statuses that Erika found in the murder rooms.
- For restating, Battler says in red whether he "Recognizes" what Dlanor states. If he states that in red, then it confirms what Dlanor said.
- The rooms the six victims were in were sealed rooms. Recognized. The secret rooms are broken when Gohda cuts the chains. A sealed room is defined as a room that cannot be constructed from the outside. Recognized. Dlanor further defines a sealed room as one where the inside and the outside cannot interact. Recognized, however Battler says that with this definition, it does not exclude methods of communication such as a knock, voices and the phone line.
- When the sealed rooms are opened, other than the victims (Kyrie, Natsuhi, Eva, Rosa, Maria and Battler), no one else could have been inside. Recognized. Narrator explains that by this, the idea that the murderer could have been hiding inside but slipped out is denied.
- Dlanor says the there is a possibility the actual murder was carried out after the sealed rooms were opened. Battler refuses to confirm in red. Erika mocks him with the theory that it could have been Krauss who killed them after the sealed rooms were supposedly opened.
- Beato1 counters that the reason he cannot repeat in red because the actual deaths of the victims have not been confirmed in red.
- Erika admits to his issue and says in blue that when Krauss opened the sealed rooms by cutting the chain, the people inside the rooms died. She wants Beato1 to respond to this. Dlanor adds that they will confirm the people who entered the sealed rooms.
- Gertrude says that Krauss, Hideyoshi, Rudolph, and Gohda entered the rooms aside from the victim. Cornelia says that they should add that no one else set foot inside the room. Erika restates that excluding her, only Krauss, Rudolph, Hideyoshi and Gohda entered the rooms. Recognized, however he says that this apples only to the present, and that others may enter in the future.
- Erika asks Battler to confirm that neither Krauss, Hideyoshi, Rudolph or Gohda are criminals, but does not say it in blue. Beato1 tells him while he thinks that he need not respond since she didn't say it in blue. Still, he decides to answer anyway.
- Battler says in red that Rudolph, Gohda, Krauss and Hideyoshi are not involved in the deaths of Kyrie, Natsuhi, Rosa, Maria, Eva and Battler.
- Erika says a bunch of stuff about how it does not make other methods impossible. Battler responds with a wall of text about even if she were to suggest a trick X, she still needs to use blue to force an answer (?).
- Narrator reminds that as the previous games explained, the witch side is to explain the events with magic, while if the human side finds a trick to doing the murder they must object with the blue. However it will be forced on the human side that if they cannot find a plausible explanation, it will be equated with admitting magic did it. Thw witch side need only protect their view while it is the human side's job to break it with offense. The red truth will set the incontrovertible truths.
- Erika continues to ask if Battler refuses to restate in red. He says he doesn't have to as he is entitled to his interpretation (?).
- Erika asks him if he's even trying hard. He says he's like her (?). Erika gets irritated and calls Dlanor.
- Dlanor says that the victims did not die by any other method but murder. Recognized. Beato1 adds that this of course rules out suicide and accidents. Erika thanks Dlanor and says she will now start with the blue.
- Beato1 apparently feels a bit of jealousy with the way Battler and Erika can talk to each other. Scene cuts.

(I don't know why Ryukishi decided to cut it here rather than continue the

metaworld duel.)

Rokkenjima 1986
- Inside the guesthouse everyone's depressed. Besides Jessica, the family women are killed, and Battler is the sole male victim. They all cannot believe their wives have been killed. They wonder why the killer would only target women besides Battler. Hideyoshi asks if Gohda and Genji had their keys. Genji says they have keys for night patrol, and they locked the mansion door when the children arrived in the guesthouse.
- Rudolph wonders how Maria and Battler could have then gotten in the mansion. It is suggested that the killer could have in because the door wasn't locked right. They cannot fathom however why Maria and Battler would be in the mansion.
- Gohda wonders if it was possible Natsuhi or someone was near the door when someone like Battler knocked, and the door was opened. Rudolph snaps at the idea. He says if there was a buzz, Gohda should have opened it. Genji says Gohda was preparing drinks in the kitchen and was not in the servant's room.
- Rudolph asks why Genji was assigned in the guesthouse and only Gohda was in the mansion. Hideyoshi cannot believe they would assign him alone in such an important day. The husbands are freaking out.
- Erika tells them to settle down. She asks if the door was locked properly and about Maria and Battler. She says perhaps it wasn't exactly a murderer breaking in. She says it's possible the culprit was already in the house for a while and waited for their chance.
- Krauss agrees and says they should all calm down. He says he wants revenge on the culprit, but they can only figure things out of they clam themselves. Hideyoshi says they still have each other, and that Rudolph still has Ange to return to.
- Erika says they should remain rational to prevent any more deaths. They have 3 grown men and 3 guns. Based on the crimes it's not likely the culrpit has a gun.
- Krauss says they should protect themselves. Rudolph says they should hunt
this person down since the island is isolated right now. Erika says the island is too big to search through. Hideyoshi suggests they wait it out until they can call for help. Krauss agrees they need to keep everyone safe. Rudolph is still sobbing.
- Erika wonders how Krauss could regain his composure so fast. She suggests the servants check around the guesthouse. Genji says to call him when they need anything. Gohda, Genji and Krauss go to the second floor. It would seem Erika wanted to get the servants away. Rudolph and Hideyoshi talk about the need to check the windows and other openings.
- Erika tells them to keep quiet because there's a reason she kept them here. When they quiet down, she says it is suspicious that the murders happened in such a small space of time. It is suspicious that 6 people were to disappear and die without anyone else noticing. She suspects the culprit knows the mansion inside and out.
- Rudolph and Hideyoshi think about their suspicions. They don't want to suspect anyone.
- Erika says that with the mansion locked, only those who were involved in the council should have been inside. Rudolph throws suspicion on Hideyoshi and Krauss. Hideyoshi likewise on Krauss and Rudolph. Erika says she wouldn't really think they would kill their own wives.
- As it stands, Erika says the she doubts Krauss, Rudolph, Hideyoshi and Gohda are murderers. Hideyoshi has doubts on Gohda since they can't really account for his presence. Rudolph suggests he could have been involved in giving information. Erika wonders about him being an accomplice. She suggests it could really be someone with intimate knowledge and motive.
- Rudolph and Hideyoshi cannot believe a member of the family would kill another's wife, children and relatives. It would have to be an unrelated person, and the only odd one out is Gohda.
- Erika says she has two points of suspicion. Point one is that there were no signs of struggle, meaning the culprit was familiar to the victim. Rudolph agrees that Kyrie could have put up a fight, and Hideyoshi says Eva trained in martial arts.
- Erika questions the case of Rosa and Maria, who were also killed without apparent struggle. She thinks the culprit isn't alone. Hideyoshi and Rudolph suggest a theoretical event I couldn't translate.
- Erika thinks that if there are more than one, an outsider would need an insider for information. Two or more culprits might be about.
- Point two is the issue of the sealed rooms by a chain lock. She doubts it because the sealed room status relies on the chain lock. What if there was no chain lock? Hideoyoshi and Rudolph figured out that a servant could not have locked the chain from the outside, even with master keys. If they were inside, they could not have been out to do the others.
- They figuratively use an example of a postman I can't translate. It's apparently how a postman who drops the wrong mail in the wrong house cannot get it back unless the resident opens it for him. There is a suggestion of a trick to get the chain lock to lock. I couldn't translate the rest.
- Narrator explains that with a chain lock you can open the door a little, and maybe manipulate the lock from there. Erika however knows that based on the red, the sealed room cannot be made from the outside.
- Erika says that while this may exclude servants as murderers, it doesn't exclude them as accomplices. It was necessary to isolate them with someone who was armed. The two man are very much shocked, if not impressed, by her reasoning. Erika troll smile.

Current Red and Blue Text

Spoiler for Red Text:

- Featherine: There is nothing that can revive Beatrice ever again.
- Beato: I am born for the Honorable Father.

Erika vs. Maria
- Maria: This is a true story.
- Maria: There is no such thing, the table and cup are free of these.
- Erika: The magic of candy is trickery. It is trickery in the same way as claiming Beato is a witch that did it.

- Erika: There is the possibility that you are telling a lie
- Erika: There is a trick to ther table and cup, and it maybe what made you think it was a magic trick?
- Erika: I opened the cup and put the candy inside while you closed your eyes. Is this magic? This is third rate trickery hahahaha!
- Erika: You were not aware of the trickery and thus was convinced it was magic.
- Sakutaro: While you did put the candy in while she wasn't looking, it doesn't prove that Beato's magic isn't trickery.
- Erika: it proves a method other than magic exists.
- Sakutaro: the existence of trickery does not disprove magic.

First Twilight, First Duel
- Erika: When Krauss opened the sealed rooms by cutting the chain, the people inside the rooms died.

Concerning Featherine, I kinda get the feeling that she could be the witch who started the game in which Bernkastel was created (and is heavily hinted to be Higurashi). This would explain Bern's serious dislike of her, she just seems to bear with her as Featherine actually could be just another part of her escape from 'boredom'.
Yet Featherine herself doesn't seem to be joking when she says that not everything is absolutely clear to her....it's still a mystery to me then how she was able to write the stories.

So...I'm rather lost in already over 40 pages with 60% of stuff not even really concerning actual plot, so sorry if it was already mentioned:

Does anybody else got the idea that Ange read all of Hachiju Tôya's books after finding out about her connection to the fake bottles and the Witch hunters and therefore remembered herself (as Gretel) going to the Golden Land, meeting Beatrice and MARIA and reviving Sakutarou?
It would explain how she could remember those events from a non-magical perspective (as at least the books up to 'End' have already been released and 'Dawn' is present as a book), it at least seems like those events actually did happen in 1998...

So I thought about...what if there is only 1 future and all the worlds we have seen are really just 'reinactments' of the 'bottle letters'? What if we really have to do what Featherine suggested with the story, that is 答え合わせ (to put the answers together)? Could it be that there is really just one future and we have to find out how those spiced up horror-fantasy-action novels combine to a bigger picture?
I know through this we would be facing a terribly dark and depressing ending...but somehow it seems not that unlikely right now....and Ryukishi can still go for a happy end in the Metaworld.

But this would completely invalidate the Metaworld, as it's just 'fictional' in the context of the series.

Thus making Umineko, like I've said before, a complete waste of time.

Again, as I said before, Featherine is most likely the first 'magical human', similar to Hanyuu in Higurashi (dohohohoho) because it's more that Hachijou comes from Featherine, rather than the opposite. I do believe in parallel worlds and magic, in some form, has to exist for the game itself to even exist.

So I thought about...what if there is only 1 future and all the worlds we have seen are really just 'reinactments' of the 'bottle letters'? What if we really have to do what Featherine suggested with the story, that is 答え合わせ (to put the answers together)? Could it be that there is really just one future and we have to find out how those spiced up horror-fantasy-action novels combine to a bigger picture?
I know through this we would be facing a terribly dark and depressing ending...but somehow it seems not that unlikely right now....and Ryukishi can still go for a happy end in the Metaworld.

doesnt it rather mean that we should put together clues from all episodes to conclude the answer whats going on rather than what happened once and cant be changed ?

btw. some people just should get over it, there IS a magic, not of course in a form of gigantic towers rising suddenly from a ground but still....

Personally I would rather not have that sort of ending. Everyone considers each other important in one way or another, and it's almost crystal clear that one of them is the murderer. At the least we could get an ending where all the innocents live and the murderer dies, or maybe where the person is caught and doesn't die, but given the setup that there's a conspiracy to commit murder I find it absurd to have a complete happy-dandy ending.
