well she has invisible ability (ep1 insert song part) so jumping like haxxor wouldnt sound so bad
10 bucks that plot will be like Deadman Wonderland, Dr Ouma made the virus. Her son was in her lab and had relation with the virus outbreak.

and just dump yourself down 30IQ and you can enjoy your typical shounen badass anime

This series would be so much easier to enjoy if it didn't keep relying on its realistic setting for its plot. It's a mesh of realism with an anything goes, rule of cool mentality that makes this quite the rough experience.

OK, the villain this episode wasn't on mr.blondy's level from a few episodes back by any means, but he really wasn't much better. Instead of being a bulging eye, psychotic, he seems to be a more calculating, devious guy. He came up with some whole bull shit about being the saviors of the country and yada yada, but any credibility this guy had went out the window once he shot his own henchman for no good reason. I mean, I guess that's ok with modern military these days?

In the end, not much has changed on my outlook of this show with the introduction of his character. He's far too black of a villain to really offer any true complexity to this show. Sure he might be a manipulative ass hole, but what good does he do for the setting? Absolutely nothing.

Again, if this series was detached from reality more, this wouldn't be so jarring, but when you offer up such an interesting place to explore and then precede to simplfy matters to the degree they have been it really isn't just jarring, but also disappointing. It's like trying to present yourself as deep and complex, but failing to deliver on that front. Improper use of the setting is a huge issue with this show. They should've created their own little world like Code Geass and gone full out fabulous again instead of this nonsense.

More about the episode... Visuals are great and all, but now I'm really sad that I'm watching something that looks and sounds so great, but is so hollow. The characters are made of card board, especially Shu and Inori.

The absurdities while taking individually are not so bad, are really becoming annoying as they continue to pile up. This includes:
  • Inori somehow waltzing into a military compound
  • Inori jumping up hundreds of feet in the air apparently (Hey if she isn't human I'll let this slide, so you can put a * on it for now)
  • Shu getting sexually aroused and jumping on water
  • Gai waltzing into the compound as a fake Lawyer with some really horrible and cheap disguise
  • Bombs and military equipment being snuck into and all around the military complex with what seems to be very little personnel
  • Gai announcing a break in (What, we have to do it as flashy as possible?)
  • Gai using a freaking rocket launcher to knock down the prisoner they're breaking out from the bridge (Yeah, he can aim that so well that he won't hurt anybody really)

I mean that's really all just off the top of my head, and it's things I personally found bothersome or nagging while I watched.

So yeah, to say I was slightly annoyed during this episode was an understatement. I'm amused while watching it, but really for all the wrong reasons. It just somehow keeps topping itself and getting further and further ridiculous. Kind of fun in a way to watch and rip it apart, but is it a model of quality for story telling? Heck no. I give it a 5/10.

Facepalm at shu keeping the transmitter, i wanted to rage when i saw that. Seriously Shu?......

Anyways, in terms of action, it was f'ing epic. I don't even need to go threw the scenes describing it but gravity gun FTW!!! I was impressed with Segai as a villain. Looks like Yahiro had his own reasons to do what he did, i can't be mad at that. Inori flying over the building like that well....... well i'll just block that out. Shu you got it made with her, luckiest kid on that planet, don't you mess that up........but seriously, you kept the transmitter

Overall: 9/10

Whats wrong with him keeping the transmitter? Gai never gave him an answer on the question he asked.

Gotta like Segai no matter that he is a baddie. Laughed my ass off at this part with him taking a cell phone pic of the building exploding...
Spoiler:

Also I'm may seem cold, but little backstabber gets no sympathy from me...

At the end I would have done the same thing as Shu did keeping the transmitter. Until Gai can give him a clear answer as to what's what I wouldn't let my guard down around him at all...

For that matter is that blonde punk dead? Since Ayase is running his enclave. I would've thought that guy would stick around a bit longer.

Doesn't make sense.

GHQ wasn't threatening to cut his brother off of life support were they? Or was it that there was a huge reward for turning Shu in?
First I wonder if the virus outbreak was a complete accident or a man made accident. I just get the feeling that Japan turn into a sacrifice or a country full of human experiments. That's how I see things because if you look at void genome's ability. It turn the crystal form into a form which represents it's owner. While the virus is just being rampant on eating the body of the victim. I just felt that while watching it. It's maybe just an excuse by the other country to invade japan and become a huge experimental facility because if their aim was to cure that virus then why does a weapon made that resembles that virus.

I don't think that kaleidoscope guy is gone yet. Annoying bastards lives long in this type of show. And maybe Gai just stole that Endlave because it's a waste to leave it.

There is a huge reward for information about funeral parlor members.

No offense but there isn't anything realistic on CG's plot. Mysterious virus crystallizing anything? Voids? If you're talking about the politics/government side of things then yeah. But it all just ends there as far as I can see. This is a character driven show in my opinion. So plot moves when we get character development. As seen in ep4, yep; CG is getting somewhere somehow.

I can slide off the x chara double jump, invisibility, or whatever nick picks this shows has. It's no different as watching Code Geass, Gundam, Naruto or every other shonen series out there.

Ooh yeah, SEGAI IS AWESUM! I wouldn't mind if this all ends up as GHQ vs. Undertaker to get Shu to their side. Throw in Inori and mommy both in either side for more plottwists. I wan't Shu to get mindfuk. He's getting really really lucky lately gaining Inori's trust (/love?). +points too for epic grabbing boobie to get huge ass broadsword out of said cute A-cup boobie. (and not looking like a dick but a badass doing it ).

Well to me its too typical. He does not have to trust Gai but did not think of the repercussions of keeping that thing towards the rest not named Gai including Inori. He should have just let it ride for now and investigated it himself somehow if he really has that issue with Gai and if anything else, trust Inori for now. What i know of now is, he got turned in by his so called friend(regardless of his friends motives) under Segai's watch. Segai basically justified murdering the people Shu saw murdered and yet he's swayed enough already to keep that thing around just because he doesn't know Gai's intentions? That was enough for him to accept a transmitter from Segai? So in turn he put everyone in danger in Undertaker including Inori. He does not deserve her. Coward with powers. Thats what im going to call him till further notice.

From what I remember in my virulogy and biology classes, viruses take over the cells of living things and modify the cell's directive on production. In most cases, it directs the cells to produce more of the same viruses. Biological technology can produce many things, so it is feasible that a virus could change the cell structure enough to produce crystals.

She could have jumped over them, and since guns don't seem to hit in this show, it would have been easy to escape. Was she afraid that Shu was going to get in trouble or something? Was the fact that she was indoors hamper her? Were there more soldiers outside? Admittedly, I don't remember Episode 1 that much.
In the first episode, Inori was already badly injured by the time that scene came up. She was bleeding profusely and lost a lot of blood. I doubt she still had the energy to put up much of a fight at that point. I remember when I was bleeding internally, I could not walk 20 feet without losing my breath and almost faint.

Lets see. Guilty Crown takes place in what seems to be Earth, more specifically Japan in the future.

There's some virus outbreak of some sort, so there are foreign occupiers. It's essentially martial law in their country. It sets up a political and social conflict for the backdrop of the show (This is something that was presented seriously, wants to be taken seriously, and gave a realistic feel to the initial premise when considering again, this takes place in what seems to be modern Japan).

So yes, I am talking about the government/politic side of things, as well the whole damn setting basically being Japan in the first place .

The difference between the shows you are listing is they never pretended to be, or gave the appearance that they were something they were not. It is precisely the tonal, and more general identity issues present in this show which make this a tedious affair for me.

and yap that just makes me think more that Inori is not normal or at least your normal girl. So jumping like doing 2 or 3 floors is feasible for this girl. If she even survived all that thing happen in the first episode.

But man Shuu was pretty badass when he jump up into the Endlave and fire the gun to the ground or water to make a huge bubble or anti gravity field. That badass climbing too on the bubble.

He really level up tremendously in my account on him

I don't think there's anything bad in this episode at all. Inori going against orders is a surprise for me though, I was thinking that she was very loyal to undertaker or maybe Gai himself but refusing to follow the plan is really a surprise. Regarding Shu, I think I would do the same thing (keeping the transmitter), after getting in trouble after trusting your friend, after getting betrayed, no person would trust another for a while. The only person to trust at the moment would be Inori, who disobeyed Gai. The battle scenes are superb as usual, I hope there's a really flashy battle again like in episode 2.

Yeah, I thought that that song of hers was going to be for the Opening. Heck, I prefer it to the song that actually is the OP. I hope a full length version comes out with the OST for this anime.

Yup, thats the spirit. Treat this anime like Code Geass, shut down your brain and prepare for one crazy ride.

At least thats my attitude. Perhaps I'm wrong and one day I shall notice that this show is deep, profound, and realistic relative to the laws of physics. But I'm not holding my breath. lol

Note: I don't find the setting realistic at all but thats probably because we don't know much about the setting in the first place. What we do know already seems absurd.

Well, basically every prediction I had about this episode came true.

Anyways, did anyone translate what the newspaper said?

Actually, I stopped taking this show seriously within the first 3 mins which was during the opening battle with Inori singing. I'm sorry but that battle was ridiculous. The whole ending of the episode was over the top. Gai introduction was absurd. I have no idea where this notion that this anime was trying to be taken seriously came from because its been pretty silly and crazy through out.

As for Inori ignoring orders, its been pretty heavily hinted that she has a big crush on Shu so it wasn't too shocking to me. Shu really is one lucky devil.

I just hated to see they were a bit lazy making Inori looks like Rei Ayanami too much.
While Shuu is similar to Shinji except being more determined (and in this way, he like Cloud StrikeStrife[thanks blue_sora for catching it] more),
I think it is a good idea to have a really great protagonist.
PS. While Shuu was not happy with Yahiro, but it is pretty sure now that what Shuu will do soon is ironically the same, or even much worse.

Flashy episode!
Really want to know how they are going to proceed with the storyline for Shu. Is he going to go underground, or will he get back to school, for no reason, but to be a security risk. Kind of excited for next week.
One thing, is Inori a human or superhuman? That jump she made, to dodge the mechas, was hilarious.

It's certainly the case that what he said to Shu was not entirely true, but the fact that he tried to emotionally and morally appeal to Shu rather than go for a more sadistic approach shows that this anime is able to add some nuance to its characters and conflicts. If I was in Shu's shoes, I myself would have found Segai's words somewhat compelling, and would have been left feeling very conflicted over it.

That's why I liked it when Shu confronted Gai during the fake lawyer meeting, as it was a believable way for him to act given Segai's arguments to him. I also liked how Gai instantly suspected that Shu confronting him meant that GHQ had tried to talk him over.
That's what i liked about it as well but I felt there were some cracks here as well:
1) Segai defends killing innocent civilians by saying his soldiers (who were going to massacre said civilians and did) were killed too? You don't need a brain to see what's wrong with that logic.
2) Shuu never got an answer as to why Gai wanted to release a murderer. We're just supposed to trust him, but that's just bullshit (To his credit Shuu did keep the "ratting out" device, but I'm guessing that's going to be more played out as a bad thing. That bit inthe ED was quite telling)
3) The music placement when Funeral Parlor's attack began was somewhat too upbeat considering what the were actually doing...
4) Segai shooting his own soldier for no God damn reason. Ugh.

There are still some questions that need to answered and really should've answered now. Why did the endemic cause create rebel fractions and why did people refuse treatment? I'm guessing it's going to be a shocking reveal at the end (and we all know what it's going to be) but still, there's no way you can seriously support or cheer for a terrorist group when their biggest reason for fighting is a complete mystery. If it was a well known and popular conspiracy theory then that might be enough, but we don't know that.

Anyway it was still a good episode. I quite enjoyed it.

The show doesn't need to explicitly spell it out, IT IS RELATED. Unless you can just prove otherwise that somehow these two paranormal effects are just some great cosmic coincidence in the world.

All plot "advancement" was stale and boring. Just because something happened doesn't mean the plot advanced. Mostly it was all just excuses to link the characters togheter, infodumping and Ep3 was nothing more then school antics. Oh, and lets not forget the inori-service.

I don't understand how things like this happen. And it's not just this series either. How is it not obvious that's the case, when they pretty much threw that info in our face several time over?
