Just watched the movie, but my Japanese is somewhat limited, so I'll post here some of my thoughts of the movie.

Spoiler for spoiler:

The design and quality is a step up from the TV series, as expected of a film version.
We see more of those cute chibi ship crew doing their stuff.
We got confirmation about what we quite guessed already.
Yamato and Roast beef.
Yamato being awesome in the final battle.
Yamato doing her " 'tis but a scratch!" scene.
Mutsuki and abyss Kisaragi "you shall not pass!"
Did Fubuki have a plan when she did what she did?
Such a fitting death scene. But...
Wtf with the post credit.

Anyway, I find it quite entertaining. The drama fits in the right places. The action scenes is well made, with a sense of real danger.

They gave every viewer a nice steel badge which is cool.

They do apparently use the "Abyssals = Shipgirls = Abyssals" interpretation, in that Shipgirls sunk in battle become Abyssals, and Abyssals sunk in battle can become Shipgirls when they're rescued. And it is apparently confirmed that yes, the Abyssals are are creatures made from the anger and grief of ships sunk during the war.

So essentially, Shipgirls and Abyssals are locked in an endless battle where their casualties result in bolstering each other's forces. At least, in the anime's setting anyway.

Spoiler for Abyssal origin beef:

While in some form obvious its imho a bit too simple. There are way more abyssals than shipgirls, after all there are so many they became problems for modern aircraft carriers and destroyer that shouldn't have much trouble with WWII Aircraft to begin with. (Especially Aegis destroyers).
So either their regrets can be split into multible abyssals - we are assuming there is just one Fubuki, Kaga and so on in total like the anime implies - or some abyssals are actually native abyssals and can just corrupt ship girls, making the corrupted shipgirls the non-generic himes (non generic as in for example CL Hime).
Cl hime is another such example why I personally think that alone is a bit too simple. CL hime isn't just Agano or Naka. She is actually both . So yeah simple Abyssal == Fleetgirls==Abyssals is a bit too simple for my liking and opening up several problems...

With the 4DX or MX4D systems, certain theaters have motion seats that move in sync with certain action sequences onscreen. Similarly, effects such as scents, wind, and mist will operate in accordance with the action onscreen.

I know I'm not necessarily their target group but I'd rather have a DVD or Blu ray release than that :/ - I want to watch it too.

I mena I know I could go to Japan and watch it there, but if I ever go there I'd rather enjoy the culture than Akihabara :P

Just came back from watching the movie. A huge step up from the TV anime in all respects. Tipping my hat to Diomedea, they did good work there. As a long time player and fan I'm pretty happy with their job on the movie.

Positives:
1) Lot of action - well-animated action (Tenryū! awesome! Yamato good as well). As far as I've seen no noticeable use of 3D. All of the close-ins at least were hand-drawn.
2) Good use of the Abyssal/Kanmusu dynamic to create a (dark-themed) story that's at the heart of the movie. SOL stuff is cut to a minimum, in the whole movie only two scenes or so light SOL stuff. Perhaps more important, no wasting time with the annoying KitaOi antics.
3) Good job managing the drama and tension.
4) Funny seeing the fairies at work including the supplying part.
5) Music is pretty solid. Especially like the theme song by Nishizawa.
6) Ryūjō and her kansai-ben was funny.

Negatives:
1) Some transitions were handled too roughly like cut with a scissor.
2) Not sure about the post-credits scene. Don't think it was necessary.

Hmm, suddenly I wonder if I should go into the 4DX version again. But it's pretty expensive. Like 1000 yen more than the regular version.

Googling what 4DX does I vividly remember that from a I was in a 4 or 5DX vampire movie once.
Basically the movie there is supposed to actually stimulate your senses through vibrating the ground/seats.
In the Movie I was on it started to smell like you were in a wet crypt, with lots of spray like water fdust when blood gushed.

In Kancolle's case they probably have a smell like the sea with the water dust coming down when it rains and so on.
The one I saw wasw a short movie though, and I think you didn't have seats.
So yeah a full movie with it must be rather epic.
