No, ADV licensed ALL of GANTZ. This was made very clear by the ADV rep on the AnimeonDVD forums as well. They also refuse to specify how much GANTZ there is because the Japanese side hasn't announced all the details publically yet and they have to honor that. After GANTZ Stage 2 was announced, he confirmed that they indeed have that as well and ALL of GANTZ that will be produced.

All of it is now got the ADV Stamp on it.

I also have a strong suspicion Tae will manage to get herself right into the battle field. I liked how we didn't get the same lecture about the suites and everything (well not as long) and we jumped right into the action. Other mangas could easily have dragged that out just because they could. I'm gonna have to assume the new guys all decided to wear the suits. (When eight people already are wearing them, you won't feel as stupid I guess.)

As for potential kills I see (excluding all the new guys of course, though they weren't that many) the guy who hung around Reika last mission, the blond kid's sensei and maybe even old guy. I'm guessing the vampires will be responsible for most kills.

OK. About five or four months ago I read the first half of Gantz volume 1 and I didn't like. I have liked all other series that Stephen is translating but particularly background art in Gantz is too wierd, though the plot seemed rather original. Now the series is big and popular because of the anime (I watched the first episode and I still don't like Gantz). Does the series get any better? A lot of series gets better after couple books. I wouldn't ever liked Berserk if I wouldn't have started reading from volume 4 and Tenjho Tenge gets good in volumes 8 & 9. But does Gantz get any better ?

Huh? I was always under the impression it was the manga that built up the anticipation of the anime itself and not the other way round. Looking at the anime thread for Gantz (First Stage) and it certainly appeared that way.

man.... i don't think there's a point to ask that question... whether the manga is good or not is totally depend on you. it's like ppl have different taste of a same bread. even other ppl say Gantz is getting better and better, that doesn't mean it's getting better and better for you you just have to stick with it -- well, at least read like 4 vol. of it.

just think "i don't like this manga" after you read the first vol. works sometime, but i (highly) recommend you to read some more...because Gantz ownz (for me )

Oh, man. Chapter 172 was really disappointing.

I understand that Kurono's new Gantzer team is ridiculously kickass, and that the vampires are more important as villains right now, but couldn't they have taken at least two or three more chapters to flesh this battle out? Show in detail how the Ring Aliens were defeated, for instance, not just have six die in the course of only twelve pages. Give the new guys a bit of personality. How disappointing.

Of course, Tae has entered the battlefield, as most of us already predicted. I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen from here on - there can't be a showdown between the Gantzers and the vampires if the Ring Aliens are defeated, but this chapter is proof that this mission is pathetic and insignificant... so I have no idea, really.

Question: what are everyone's favorite and least favorite missions? My favorite is definitely the fifth mission, with the Dinos.

We have Kurono at his most badass, kicking major ass without a suit and scoring in one mission more than he did during the first four. Then we have some great Izumi action with his sword. And, of course, the psychics and the martial artist. I really like the old man as well.

My least favorite would probably be the second mission, with the Tanaka Aliens.

Probably because I was rather new to the world of Gantz, and there was too much 'this isn't the last boss! oh no!' stuff after the rather straightforward Onion Alien mission. The new Gantzers, with the exception of Homo, weren't very interesting either.

This battle is waaaaaay too fast. Kinda sucked. I'm not looking forward to having Tae chopped in half.

And the Dinosaur fight was definitely the best. Not just Kurono, but many other people seemed to get their shit together and actually help out. Plus, those black guys were a riot.

I wasn't really dissapointed about the fights with the monsters really. I think sometimes it can drag on too long and get repetitive. I actually think the fighting with monsters is not the more entertaining aspect of Gantz. It's the characters that do it for me. Sure the fighting is cool sometimes, but equally I also find myself wanting the fights to hury up and get over with so we can get back to the characters. The fighting is good for shock value, like people you might not expect dying such as the tall guy from way back (who's name escapes me) and Kishimoto.

I believe your referring to Masaru Katou. Guy who resembles izumi so much.

And yet is the polar opposite of Izumi. I loved and still love Katou, but after Shinjuku, I can't bring myself to like Izumi. Still, the double panel in the first chapter of volume 11 is one of my favorites. "The hunt! The memories of the hunt on Shinjuku street!"

One thing I really like about the anime (maybe the only thing) is the really kickass opening sequence(s), set to a really awesome song, and especially the fact that the opening changes with each mission! I can't wait to see the openings for the Buddha, Midget, and Dino missions. *drool*

haha, you like the song too, you'd be suprised how many people hate it If you like that go and give Joint a try too, its one of the first Rip Slyme vids I saw and its pretty catchy ^_^

my favorite by far is definitely the 3rd mission, the buddha aliens, because

soooo many well fleshed-out people died, both the ones I like and the ones I hate... It shows the cruelty of the battle, it shows people's courage, it shows variety in fighting, it shows blood and gore and various ways of people getting killed. It's also the first time Kurono goes "berserk" and kicks some major ass. It has the death of Kishimoto and Katou. And it keeps one guessing who'll survive through the mission (well... in the end none except Kurono... that's quite a surprise too) I especially like the switching around between Katou's death scene and his younger brother. All in all, the best battle for me. VERY emotional, powerful, bloody, and sad.

my least favorite is the 4th mission...

nothing much happens except Kurono jumping around and blasting aliens... of course I guess if the later classroom battle is considered part of the 4th mission then it's also great, but anyway IMO the mission itself is pathetic, the classroom aftermath totally ROCKS.

I liked the Small Alien mission. I liked that Kurono hesitated before killing the first Small Alien, and I like the way he offed the rest (well, all except one). I also liked that this first time we saw a Kurono that was seriously frightened, that knew what was going on and what was happening to him. The classroom aftermath was definitely the best part, though

I think the character developments is the major strength of Hiroya Oku, the mangaka (if you ever read "Hen"); and I like it very much~ so i don't really mind with the "1-page-fighting" plot of the ch172~~

the focus is on Kei and Tae~

(don;t think Tae will get killed though -- it will be funny if Kei got killed though, lol )
