So Mr. Spear Hero did use the sealed seed and boy did it make a mess. *chuckles* They didn't really explain that Naofumi had made the herbicide to also double as a medicine as having that sick child drink a vial of herbicide would of been a problem.

Looks like Raphatalia and Firo had a chance to bond during this episode, hopefully they'll be over their little jealous thing in competing for attention. Funny watching Raphatalia, for all her physical age she's still a child in some ways, thinking kissing will get your pregnant.

Some might call this a weaker episode, and it some ways they'd be right, but I think it was important to give Raphatalia and Firo a chance to "settle" their differences so to speak so they can work together better.

Next week's episode has an ominous title, looks like we'll finally get to see that Curse Shield foreshadowed a couple of weeks ago.

Spear hero is not only a cunt, he's also an incompetent prick who can't even understand the consequences of what he does and how he's ruining the life of many people, a big part of this is thanks to bitch's influence, they are perfect for each other.

It was so good to see how Firo and Raph relationship improved a lot thanks to Raph's efforts to show Naofumi her feelings, I can see that her dream will come true in the future, after all just like she said, she's a woman.

That last part of the episode, curse shield is coming and oh boy that's going to be good.

Spoiler for Raph:

The graphical quality took a hit this week, but otherwise quite an enjoyable episode. Let's see how many messes of Motosayu (and of course the person holding his strings) our hero has to clean up in the future.

Otherwise nice bonding between Raph and Filo. ^^

The after credits scene at the end seems to show the bow hero's team, but I can't completely tell by comparing weapon and hair color from the Opening. They wore the same clothing.

Also, did the dragon look dead? So it died and is spreading a curse? And the bow hero's team is now wiped out, too?

Essentially, the Shield Hero is going around cleaning up the mess of the other heroes now?

Well, since the end showed a dragon corpse and Ren's supposed to have killed a dragon I'm guessing next week it's HIS mess that needs to be cleaned up.

And as I surmised before people didn't realize the Savior of the Heavenly Fowl was the Shield Hero. As I suggested before that might be why he wanders with the Book Shield activated: most people won't look at that and see a shield, and a guy with no shield on him wouldn't be easily connected with the Shield Hero. Convenient if one's still afraid that people might doubt him or try to take advantage.

Liked how the boar started backing up when Raph and Filo turned on him; at least he realized the force of their rage, even if it was too late.

Raphtalia and Firo bonding, that's what I've been waiting to see! I actually thought it was all in Raphtalia's head but Filo does want to seduce Naofumi too. Unless what she said could actually be interpreted another way in Japanese?

When I saw the dead dragon, I made the connection too. It looks like it's becoming Naofumi's job to deal with the other heroes' mess. In their defense, I guess it's not really their fault. Motoyasu most likely can't read this world's language and had to rely on Myne who obviously lied to him about the seed. I wonder about his other teammates though, you'd think one of them would have warned him. Then again, Myne is the princess so they may not not have dared speak against her.

As for Ren, he couldn't have guessed the dragon's corpse would spread a disease. If Naofumi's party had killed it, they would have brought it to town like the boar and possibly made things even worse than they are now.

Anyway, makes me wonder what kind of mess Itsuki made.

Was cute seeing Raphtalia trying to teach Filo table manners at the beginning of the episode (a callback to Raphtalia herself boasting about learning table manners, when she first started growing), and Filo is going at her salad with a fork in each hand.

Speaking of Filo's eating habits: I hope she's not going to cause some repercussions from eating the demonic fruit like candy.

Felt wrong for Naofumi to go to the gem merchant to sell all the fruits and seeds. Yeah, conservation of characters, and we know the guy has lots of connections himself, but I'd sort of expected that he'd go see one of the contacts that the trader introduced him to (sort of the point of introducing Naofumi to the trader network, after all). Still, a very minor gripe.

Overall, an episode about integrating Filo better into the group, with Raphtalia doing a lot to try to teach her proper manners throughout (eating, how she talks about people, what is and isn't OK with respect to Naofumi, etc). A transitional work between Filo's pure curiosity and id from the previous episode and having her act more normal going forward. Filo is still a monster, after all, and even if she's grown big very quickly, there's a certain amount of work you need to maintain verisimilitude for the story.

And speaking of growing up, there's that interesting contrast between Raphtalia's apparent age and maturity, and how she acts with respect to romance. Getting someone to like you required giving a present, as told to her by her mom. Wishing Naofumi still brushed her hair like he did with Filo. Headpats. Kissing making a girl pregnant. Flustered uncertainty and massive blushing just from considering a romantic idea.

Her body went from 10 to 18ish, but her mind is still sitting around 13. She may seem more mature and self-confident, but she doesn't have the actual experience that those years would have given to a normal human. Even her bossiness is as much a 13-year-old as an adult, as she still holds those "ought" rules you're taught as a child as sacred (don't waste money, don't be rude, eat properly, etc).

Also, the tail still doesn't lie.

More untranslated shield text. Annoying.

The dragon reminded me of Ren's supposed feat (and it's rotting enough to see its skeleton, so it's been a while), but a couple of the dead adventurers did look sorta like those from Itsuki's team (the spearwoman and the magician). However the guy with the bow at the end (which might sorta imply Itsuki), his bow is very clearly not the Bow Hero's bow. And the guy with the simple breastplate had a sword, not an axe. And the magician's staff has a round orange orb instead of a faceted purple gem. Overall, a lot of "close, but not quite" resemblances.

I'm thinking they still see it as a game. Starving village needs crops? Go on a quest to find something that'll feed them. Dragon near a village? Better go slay it. No need to stop and watch and see if the food source is safe or take care of the dragon's corpse before leaving, there's no way the game would give you a quest that ends with your gift eating the villagers instead of saving them or let your kill's gigantic corpse rot and spread disease (they mentioned a plague right before showing the dragon).

If I'm not mistaken is Filo often getting animated through some sort of CG? At least when pulling the cart. She looks just a bit separate from the rest of the scenes at times.

Eh, the old witch said it was written in the "ancient language". I expect most people wouldn't be able to read it, or have a real hard time reading it (sort of like asking a modern person to read olde English). Motoyasu obviously can't read it, whereas Myne probably understands just enough to get a rough idea of what it says. Myne is a princess, after all, and probably had lessons in the ancient language, but she also doesn't seem the type of person to treat studying seriously. She can browbeat any teachers into giving her a good grade if she messes up, but it's a bit different when dealing with a real instance of the language.

As for the other team members, I expect that most probably haven't studied the ancient language, and thus aren't relevant. The exception would be the witch, who probably has studied some, but seemed the wallflower type — unlikely to press forward to see things for herself, and/or uncertain that her reading was correct when it didn't match the princess's, and/or unwilling to contradict Myne if nothing bad seemed to happen (ie: the group left before the plants turned monstrous).

So, I don't think Myne lied to Motoyasu deliberately, but rather that she took her half-baked education as 'good enough'. The praise for "doing something" (a la politicians everywhere) was all that mattered. The actual work is always handled by someone else.

The spear hero really does seem like a huge fuck up, but I can at least give him the benefit of the doubt here as it seems like he was misled by Myne.

This episode was nice for the Raph and Firo bonding.

definitely one of the weaker eps so far, but it's a necessary lull before things pick up again. i'm not a fan of how Naofumi is still like, "pay me for everything." it was okay to use it as cover for not caring before, but it's kind of old now.

Maybe we should start call Naofumi the merchant hero...

And like many predicted Spear dude was the one who took the cursed seed. Looks like Naofumi going out of his way to fix his so called "allies" problems...

This episode was pretty much about Raphtalia and Filo's relationship developing from a more contentious rivalry to a true friendship and bond, which was nice to see. Raphtalia is the mature and responsible older sister while Filo is the cute and precocious younger sister .

I guess Raphtalia's age up didn't make her that mature if she still doesn't know how babies are made, and yeah, some of her desires here were still kind of childish although maybe it's also the animal part of her ?

Raphtalia's ears are so adorable .

Raphtalia is determined to get Naofumi to see her as a woman and get him to realize her feelings. It's probably a long and difficult road ahead on that front, but I'm rooting for her .

Not only cleanign up their messes but doing their job better then they did. Not only did Naofumi save the village from Motoyasu and Myne's blunder but he also solved the village's famine problem. Sure he didn't just do it for free, but Naofumi believes in equal trade .

I wonder if the old Shield Hero had to constantly clean up after the other heroes' messes ?

Well, y'know what they say about a woman scorned...now just add two women who even on a good day can kill you in five seconds .

I think with Filo it's her animal instincts that makes her interpret her feelings and attention to Naofumi as a potential "mate," whereas Raphtalia has more typical romantic feelings for him .

I actually wonder what the dynamic in Motoyasu's party is like. It seems like the typical Harem setup with an attractive, heroic, guy and a bunch of girls but Myne is obviously running the show.

Is it mostly all the girls fawning over Motoyasu? Kind of amusing to imagine Myne constantly fending off the other girls in their party so she can have Motoyasu all to herself .

I don't think it's so much that they still see it as a game, because they probably realize by now that the world they are in is very much real with real humans and threats, but they probably think things are as simple and cut-and-dry as they are in games where you just retrieve a simple item to save a starving village and not have to worry about the consequences.

It's probably the same for Ren. It's the hero's job to slay dangerous beasts, not worry about what could happen after killing a dragon. And if the rumors about Itsuki are true, heroes help with the "righteous" rebellion, and don't worry about what happens afterwards.

Naofumi thinks about that kind of stuff because he knows what happens when you take things simply at face-value and how much that can screw you over. This isn't a wish-fulfillment adventure for him and he's not acting like a hero on an epic and grand quest (even if he is still, when the chips are down, a hero in his own right).

I'm kinda wondering if Naofumi will end up confronting all the heroes on how they're inadvertently screwing the kingdom up, although somehow I don't expect them to be very receptive to criticism (especially Motoyasu) .

I think Filo is definitely CG for some of her running scenes.

I actually like that part of him, it's easily understandable given his position and sets him apart from the typical isekai hero.

It be one thing if he was overcharging them, but he's charging a fair price within their means. And the person being helped. And its a good thing for the people being saved too so they don't take things for granted.

The first half was good, there's a reason some people are calling this Spice and Wolf season 3

The second half was unnecessary, I mean, whoever wrote the story wanted Nao to be the dense harem protagonist in this series when it doesn't need one, they even had a cliche onsen episode!

Good thing shielddaddy isn't interested in his daughters romantically!

I wonder when the 2nd wave will hit, it's sure to be a lot harder based on the OP

At the least I don't like how they decided to make Filo into a direct love rival here. The impression I'd gotten to now has been that she sees him as her daddy, as would be expected of a bird who saw him the moment she popped out of her shell. If they play it off later as an Oedipus complex sort of thing and have her go back to thinking of him as a father I'll be fine but it does indeed feel weird for her to want the man she imprinted on as a mate.

When the guys offer to buy the boar from Raphtalia and Firo, I thought the girls were just going to give Naofumi the money they made off it, which would end up being the perfect present for him.

i actually completely get it, since he's not doing stuff out of goodwill as a hero. but it just rubs me the wrong way, since deep down, the viewer knows he's a selfless person.
