In the manga, his father lets him take out the GC8 regularly(Bunta was obviously motivated to get this car not only for his own personal use, but Takumi's development) to learn from it and Takumi realizes he can do things with this car that he can't in the AE86 and becomes irritated. Yup, now the remaining question is, how will the results be the next time they battle.

Bunta comments that each time the 86 takes a new line, the WRX can match that line and beat it.

That's not neccessarily true though, as there are many differences between the 86 and WRX (e.g. weight difference, FR vs. AWD, etc.). Now suppose the 'power' (in terms of competiveness, not BHP/WHP) of both cars is equal, the 'best line' would be different. I'd expect the 86 to drift slightly more than the WRX, and to brake later and stronger...

If that's the case, I can't wait to see the rematch.

(nope, I'm assuming that Takumi will stick to the 86)

Well... if they do around 1 or 2 races / 2 episodes

That'd probably end things pretty well... hopefully they'll cut some races short to focus a bit on Keisuke...

to anybody that's read ahead, in eps 7-8 keisuke takes the lead from that girl in the other rx7 is that the end of that race, or does she try to come back, and is that the last we see of her?? does keisuke try and hook up after the race? if not, i feel sorry for him......prolly though relationships seem not to work out well in initial d for some reason

Thats the end of the race. The style of racing they were doing was the chase type. Not the side by side start. So once you get passed, you lose. And no they sadly don't hook up. Keisuke, as any racer should, focuses on driving and girls only get in the way. He does borrow her car though.

STi is only the short form for SUBARU TECNICA INTERNATIONAL (subaru's in-house tuner)
So basically the (in house) tuned version of a WRX is a WRX STi.
and yes coupe version were avaible till 1999 (maybe some special edition are still made, don't know)

You have to rember the 22B was discontinued in 1998 because of the DOHC platform. All the horsepower was at the upper part of the power band. In 1999 Subaru went to a SOHC platform for more torque and better acceleration.
It also came in 2 and 4 door, Bunta's is the 2 door but as for the STI badgeing it was the rally edition that was brought to the streets for the 1998 version only.

heh winter break and with finals over = fast releases. win win for everyone.
man now i have to wait 2 months until we see the capp and 86 race . I really do hate the releases schedule of initial D, whose ever idea it was needs to get beat down badly.

yea does suck that only 2 eps are released every 2 months. at first it wasnt so bad becuz they didnt end with many cliff hangers. until now of course.

i'm sure there is reasoning for this. 3D animation is very expensive. possible the 2 month span allows them to build up abudget to release higher quality animation. you must admit, 4th stage is the best looking of the series.
