I'm bother more in the fact that Hayate think Nagi doesn't need him anymore, I can see him getting in debt because of it, there also the fact that Nagi can't do somethings without him and Maria.

Nagi and Hayate will never be a couple, no matter how much the author wants. And he knows it, and he'll use this to make Nagi have a break down on christmas and open the gates to the palace.

And I'll agree with DragonXX, you don't need Hayate's debt for this to be a gag manga. His debt is actually poitless by now...

Approximately 500 chapters without TRUE romantic development in the main couple, just no, it cannot. They are siblings-like I think so,

I think that if the manga change of way would be a better option, like:
Hayate with someboby of the harem (Athena or Hina for default)
Nagi with a new and interesting character

I think it works, with 300 or more chapters

There is a character that has been setup for Nagi -- Ayumu's brother Kazuki.

Ok, I've caught up at last, since I've hadn't read the last 10 chapters... I really prefer this development, with Hayate having doubts about Nagi needing him rather than him being in debt again.

And about bg here... I would go with either Athena, Hina or even Ruka, but I think that this will end in an open ending, specially since the author would like to pair Hayate with Nagi, but there's like 0 chemistry between them (at least romantically speaking)

Tha is the writing limit of Hata, is somehow a level above of average, but poor if it is all that he can do
