Is there any official word on canon hair and eye colors?

In the recent chapter, Kazuya said in his usual monologues that Chizuru has black hair. Anime uses brown, volume covers shown her with brown initially, then it shifted gradually. Now it kinda looks like she has base black with brownish highlights on the covers.

Eye colors are all over the place, and not just for her.

Artistic choice or just lazyness in general to even care about initial depictions?

This isn't the only anime that does this BUT IT DRIVES ME CRAZY lol

I've learned a long time ago to never expect 100% consistency between how a character is described in text and how is shown in illustrations and anime. Author probably described Mizuhara with black hair because that's how Japanese girls look like and then anime studio thought she looked better in brown.

When the cast has unnatural hair colors to begin with, it's indeed often black in reality.
But here, nothing really stands out as unnatural, only Yaemori's blue tints, but it's not a big deal. The rest is fairly believable. Yet even brown is black. Guess Mami is not blonde either.

Kazuya for example is dyed according to Sumi in the spin-off. Not sure if it was ever said in the main series, but the spin-off makes a point about that.

She really should have scolded the boy for literally groping her bewbs like just firmly say "That is BAD! You NEVER touch girls there unless she says it's ok; DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?"

I DO NOT care that 'he's just a kid'; you need to teach them when they are young to keep your hands to yourself dammit.

But the little girl's bonding during naptime was sweet. "Why are we alive?" paired with her blank, dead expression made me lol.

That's one of the reasons I hate lesbian characters in manga, they usually get away with anything they do while the protagonist is called a pervert and a beast (and beaten accordingly) if he accidentally happens to see a glimpse of underwear.
Same applies to little kids, and the fact that I don't like kids in real life doesn't help.
