U have a point there. People need something different.

In the My-HiME manga, her role is reduced. But in the My-Otome manga, that's another story.

Why so? I think without Shizuru HiME anime wouldn't be so good =/ Besides she appeared only in the last episodes -_-
I think it would be better if she would play bigger role in manga,than that stupid Tate -_- Why the hell did everybody were running after him?!
And I better be quiet about Natsuki and her fan girl behaviour -_-

Shizuru's role in HiME always struck me as an 'oh snap, we still need another HiME, lets just apease the fans and make Shizuru one' type. Similar to Akane's 'we need to show what happens if a HiME's child is killed, so lets just put a hardly-seen-character as a sacrifice' the key difference being that Akane's scrapped up role at least had a point. Shizuru's role didn't seem to have any other point then apeasing the fans, the kills she made could have been done by the real bad guys, which would have made them apear for more dangerous.

I do enjoy her role in the anime.
But with all that "shiznat" mania, she started to get on my nerves...
So the manga, without her, was IMO quite pleasant.

But if I can say what's on my mind, even if I enjoyed Shizuru Fujino and Natsuki Kuga (separate or together)...
I really really HATE Shizuru Viola.

Same as Natsuki Krueger.

(because of the fanservice, in fact...)

When I read the last volume of the HiME manga, I almosted choked. Shizuru acted all like 'I wish I had the power of HiME.' Oish.... That really got to me.

And who did you mean by bad guy's? There were no any like this =/ Besides what she did just showed what kind of being we people are, although it was shown in more cruel way...

Feh, what did Shizuru actually do in HiME? Might as well have given the role of killing a few more childs to SearS or Miyu, whom I mean with bad guys. It wold have made them apear much more threatening.

I don't think the point of Mai HiME was to have scary villains. It wasn't a good guys vs bad guys story, it was good guys vs each other. If Searrs/Miyu/the OL had started killing more Childs, it would have detracted from the potline of all the HiME breaking down psychologically and being forced into fighting, each for their own reasons.

Another point of Mai HiME was to show the many different kinds of love that exist, and how they are all worth fighting for. We had the sibling love of Mai/Takumi, Nao's clinging to her mother with the hope that she might someday wake, Yukino and her quiet love for Haruka, Fumi's respect and gratitude toward Mashiro, Yukariko's guilty desire for Ishigami...the list goes on. Shizuru was there to demonstrate painful unrequited love and how it can drive people to do things they never thought they would, so her role wasn't pointless.
