Even then that reference will be enough in my opinion. We really don't know WHO Frederica Bernkastel is in the game either - all we basically know is that she writes poems and has something to with Rika. We only get perspective of her overall in Saikoroshi when you think about it. Most of the overall discussion about Bernkastel is at the ending of the arc when Rika goes back to her world.

While I'm at it, a question regarding to Higurashi Fansub'bers (or any fansubbers for that matter):
There are TV recordings out, and no DVD-RAW's yet. Will a fansub group start only when they get the RAW's of it, or is it normal for a translator to start from the TV version, then apply timings to the dvd version?

The other "Rei" titles were fansubbed after roughly 7-8 days later from the original Dvd release, should we be expecting the same time?

Looking at it like that, I can only think that if they introduce Bern at the end, then it wouldn't be as effective. "Rika" questioning who/what she really is was a moving scene for me.... And I wanted to swat the alcohol away from her loli hands.

I can see why they wouldn't fully introduce Bern, yet I'm still leaning toward she should have at least been introduced. More mind fcuks are fun, right?

Studio DEEN doing both shows doesn't mean they'll just add her just because she has a part in Umineko. They should have added her for what she is in Higurashi.

Since Rika and Bern shouldn't be the same person? Since Bern and Frederica is not yet "confirmed" to be the same person I suppose there would be a possibility that Bern actually was Rika. After all, in Umineko she says "I wonder what I used to say in those times... Err... Ah... F-Fight ou! Mii~ Nipah~"

So I suppose that could be a hint to Bern actually being Rika, but then it would make no sence who Frederica is. Ah, I just can't say good things these days. I was just curious :3

It's because Hanyuu decides to stop transferring Rika's memories to the world of the kakera and instead to allow her to die normally the next time she dies. As a result, that Rika won't join again with Bern and she can thus be seen as a separate entity.

What makes you think she was lying? I think Rika did end up in the sinless world by accident rather than by Hanyuu's design; Hanyuu simply exploited that opportunity to teach Rika a lesson about making choices.

It's more "realistic" in my opinion.

Sometimes, even though there is a good ending (or true w/e), there will be some sacrifices/deaths necessary.

I Think Hanyuu did it in purpose caus if Hanyuu was able to have contact with her , Bern could too (even if she's just a voyager). More of that, the "key" of the game is the same tragedy that hanyuu had. I really think that Hanyuu did it in purpose. But that's just what i think. If that's true or not, it doesn't really change the end

It felt a little rushed, especially in the beginning with the Saiguden incident and the events leading up to it. It's too bad we didn't get to see her dad bursting into the chamber and her little internal monologue about her new name. The minor change I liked the most was in her fight with Satoko, where she just threw the damn chair instead of punching her in the face. That was badass.

Wow. I've never thought Rika's family-stance is that complicated. And poor Rika, just when she've thought, it's alright to enjoy that world, and get along with her own family...

Speaking of which, I might be wrong on that, since it was quite some time ago, when I've seen the first series, but didn't Rika mentioned something like every 8th generation daughter gets to be the "reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama"? If I remember that correctly, then how did her Mother become "that" here?
I mean, if what Rika says is true, then her Mother couldn't have been the same "thing" when both of them have been living in the usual worlds.
Additionally I don't think Rika (normally) can "inherit" the title, by her mother dieing, since we've seen it in the Himatsubushi-hen, that she already possessed knowledge of the future, when her Mother was still alive.
So is the "tradition" different here by any chance, or is there something I misunderstand (in which case I'd appreciate some explanation).

The chairscene was awesome, I've found myself laughing like a madman again, just like in the first series (I wish they would make more violent anime ). Scary Rika .
I was a bit disappointed, Satoshi isn't a bit more reliable though.

In every other world, Rika is the 8th consecutive daughter in the Furude family. However, in the sinless world, that person is her mother instead while Rika is now the 9th consecutive daughter.

Rika's mom did say the first daughter (of her generation) born after the last Incarnation of Oyashiro-sama died. If that's the same in all worlds, then it means that the old woman died a few years earlier in this one than the rest.

Uhm... I'm sorry, I maybe stupid or something, but I still don't really understand that thing with Rika's mother.
Just because there isn't any murder here in that world, why is it different here, and why Rika's mom is the chosen one? Do they kill some relative still in embryo-state in the usual worlds? (I refer on abortion or something).
Even in normal worlds, before any killing occur, Rika still knew about Hanyuu (at least it was stated somewhere she was able to see her all her life, and that's why her relationship weakened with her mom, because she didn't believe her).

The other problem (and that's why I didn't mentioned the surname Furude anywhere), is that as far as I know Rika's mom isn't even Furude in the first place. I've thought Rika's father is the shrine priest, and the shrine is called Furude shrine. Or is there such a tradition, when... for example I'd marry a shrine maiden, and because of that I'd have to take on the priest duties and the shrine will be renamed with my surname (ergo before his involvement it was called "-somethingelse- Shrine")?
Or did Rika's dad marry inside the Furude family and his surname was different before the wedding?
