Simple question probably, anyway I have a lot of useless programs that start up when I get into windows. I know there is a list thing somewhere that allows you to disable those programs so that they will not start when you boot up and which then makes everything slightly faster.

How do I get into this menu again?

run > msconfig > Startup > choose your poison.

Honestly I don't think you should actually mess with the startup portion of the MSCONFIG, there's nothing wrong in being a little patient for all that internal security when Windows boots up.

But there are some programs which you can trim off like ITuneshelper. Pity you can't turn off automatic updates.

I have a handful programs that run in the BG that start up as soon as I boot up but that aren't needed to run fulltime. Such as the Ebook Library launcher and 2 for 3dsMax that is what I want to use it for. Thanks anyway =)

You should also check your startup folder too see if any of the programs you don't want running at startup are actually in there (sometimes programs to create a file in that folder to start the program at boot time instead of adding a startup entry in the registry).

Startuprun : why should I install yet another program when I can do this myself..

add/remove programs: I do not want to uninstall the programs...

You don't need to install startup run, It's just a small exe file which you can run once and disable the processes you don't need. It doesn't run at startup too. Also it tells you which processes are being run by which company so you have an easier time identifying what that process is.

But yeah, msconfig is good too.
