Ep 12 (finale)

Yes indeed - that was excellent.

One of things about this series I have liked best about this series is how many things it has going on under the surface - a surface so beautifully animated and with such striking, easy to "label" aspects (such as the food itself and the intense delight the characters show while eating) that it almost camouflages the serious elements to the story going on underneath.

The series is based on a 4-koma manga as well, and from what I have heard the story was woven together and unpacked in meaning to a great degree, bringing about a result as effective as was done with the anime adaptation of Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka, but with deeper character exploration and development.

This last episode was an excellent stopping point to the series, which on the whole in my opinion was done extremely well.

For a Kirara series that gets adapted, I put Koufuku second or third, after Hidamari and (possibly) GA.

I'm quite sad it's over given that it's obvious there'll never be a second season. At least it ended on a very good note, with Ryo not having to feel lonely anymore now that Kirin is going to live with her. It's the best thing that could have happened to her, other than her parents coming back.

Was hoping her parents would finally come home, guess not. Overall I enjoyed this one, never fails to make me hungry after each episode! S2 will probably be an impossibility.

Because that's how the manga art is. It's the main point of their foodgasms.

I'm puzzled. These two series, after all, have different demographics and emphases. Koufuku concentrates more on the social and emotional part of food.

There's also another gourmet show this season aside from Shokugeki.

I can say that Koufuku Graffiti is described as 'comfort food' or sort! Good series by SHAFT, but I think that it won't have another season...

While I already have an idea as for why Ryou's taste buds stopped working in the beginning, it is worthwhile to restate the central theme of the series: the experience of food is better shared.

The second half of this episode is anime original, so it took some time to close another loose end--the issue between Kirin and her mother. They seems to have a better relationship than, say episode 1.

As I mentioned, Koufuku Graffiti is close to the top of my list of animated Kirara series because the following:
  • Goes deep enough into your sentiments / emotions to be healing, but not so much so as to go into angst. A lot of Kirara series tends to shallow on this regard.
  • The existence of an overarching plot and character development for a Slice-of-Life.
  • I know a lot of readers doesn't like this comment--This series's yuri-teasing is still within plausible deniability.

For a note: for these reasons, despite often seen to be a Kirara person, I don't feel the need to bother picking up Kin-iro Mosaic S2. (There're still some hope for GochiUsa, though)

Just started watching this, and I'm diggin it. It's cute as fuck, and it has that SHAFT touch that I can't seem to escape from. I'm a big fan of Tsuyuko. :P
