Apparently, the girls are battle androids made for war. But the war ended and they work as waitresses now.

This reminds me of Violet Evergarden for some reason...

I hope it's better than the Key x PA Works anime projects and isn't yet another poorly paced abomination that kills itself with an excess of ambition.

Well as one would expect...it looks really good. What we can gleam from the pv makes for a potentially solid plot.

Guess the question will be how they handle the story itself. Can be very hit and miss with Key projects. They'll always look good, but they'll need more than that. But looking good isn't itself a bad thing .

Episode 1 was pretty underwhelming; the CGDCT selection this season is a bit disappointing so far. Not sure if I'll even give this 3 episodes.

What was the point of this episode? Were they just trying to give us a fair warning that they were not even capable of doing cheap melodrama correctly so we can just skip the show?

episode 1:

a cafe of retired battle androids.

some drama right from the start. Probably just a taste of more drama to come.

only part I liked is when they were singing, made me remember something sad..

some parts were rather boring. But will watch up to episode 3 before deciding if drop or continue.

episode 2:

Haizakura has a nice singing voice. Starting to like her more now.

Gekka show her skills as a veteran in the war. Her job is reconnaissance, so it's probably why she's also good at catching enemies doing recon..

looks like someone is planning bad things for them. That mechanica that got shot down looks like it was spying on their cafe.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It doesn't look bad and the concept is ok. Although I feel like pacing could have been better. Not sure if I'm more disappointed that they didn't just make this show about the war this is set after or that they didn't ease into the drama a bit. It's leaning a lot on natural sympathy to feel bad for a robot we just met and a kid we just met.

There is interesting drama of course to Haizakura clearly having some command powers that she's unaware of. It makes it almost into a horror scenario where she basically forced this broken robot to interact with this kid even as she was still terribly broken. Credit to them that I felt like something was off when she first met Chiyo again, but nothing was immediately drawn to it so I let it go. But yeah, she was just faking it the whole time while trying to hang in there and avoid breaking down too fast.

I'm curious how they'll play with all this.

nother emotional episode. Glad Houkiboshi got her voice back.

feels like the writer (or writers) of this are pacifists, they're really grinding down on the tragedy and sadness that war brings.

episode 4:

Karasuba has a nice relationship with Nagi. I thought one of them might die this episode, glad things still turned out ok.

also nice flying by Gekka to deliver that device.

episode 5:

a doll who gathers knives is scary. Good thing Haizakura approached the situation correctly.

Retzel is saved, and they also adopted a stray cat. Best episode for me, and also found best girl.. Retzel is best for me now, because she feed the hungry neko.

looking forward to next week.

I think I know what's going on with Haizakura. When Retzel asked Haizakura what's her purpose, Haizakura remembered something. The one who appeared in Haizakura's memory was Oka, the doll from the first scene in episode 1.

Why would Haizakura had a memory of Oka? The only answer is that Haizakura is Oka in a different body.

According to Karasuba, the Oka dolls are the first series of dolls and the most advanced. That explains why Haizakura seems to have mysterious abilities.

episode 6:

This was a rather interesting episode despite the light theme of putting on a singing show.

The 6th Ward as well as Otome shutting them down over power consumption ordinances seems to hint at some significant War depletion despite winning the war. We also been learning that their country was countered with doll technology of their own, both in Retzel who was quite advanced, and Otome saying that they fought automata in the war as well as fighting beside them, further damaging people's impressions of the dolls and mechanica.

The evidence is also starting to snowball that Haizakura is a rebuilt Oka. The cabaret's dolls weren't military units, but the host implied that they were around before the war really got heated. Oka was the first automata to be brought to the battlefield, only the older the doll is, the fewer dolls can interface with them. I suppose that Haizakura was only reading their memory the way that Houkiboshi did before, but those dolls were deactivated. Accessing them when they're in that state has been hinted before to be a Command-type function, and then Haizakura's circuits would need to be as old as the cabaret dolls to do that. Crown that stuff with showing the audience very overtly that Nagi wasn't fazed that they found Oka at all. It seems to imply he knew already and knows what the Otome and the rest of the military will find.

I do really wonder what kind of family Chiyo has. She seems very well off compared to many other citizens, but also no one seems particularly concerned that she hangs out all day and night with the Black Cat's dolls. Her moustache is funny though, she's very self-aware with what she's up to.
