For me the problem was more of getting a culture appropriate vehicle name. Belka is magical Medieval Germany and Midchilda, magical Medieval England, but what if we want to expand the world and have a character being from outside the canonical fantasy counterpart culture? Finding car names that sounds Russian, Arabic, Chinese etc that still sounds like a name a parent would give their children is just too much work for me

Oh, thank god none of my characters are like that.

...although I guess some of them could be named after cars without me intending it.

Yeah, I have my own name themes to keep track of, and keep them in line with the pre-existing themes--like the Ferrari names.

Interesting...the three combat Wolkies are actually named after Opels (a German car brand, natch). Shamal is a Maserati...but the word actually means "wind," which ties in with her Device's name and her healing magic.

See what I mean about the sub-themes? There's probably even more that we're not aware of. For the sequel I've got in the works for The Collared, I actually have to avoid all themes for one of my characters--as that character is not an OC.

Basically, anyone who isn't born on Earth or is one of Jail's Combat Cyborgs has a car-related name.

Some random people seem to have slipped through the cracks, though. All of the ancient Belkan kings (Olivie, Klaus, Ixy) don't appear to have car names...Also the Harlaowns (though that may just be because Chrono is a legacy character from Toraha) and I don't think Amy, either.

Funniest thing. A few months ago I named one of my character Alphard because it means "The Solitary One", which fits his magic system. A few minutes ago I just found out the existence of Toyota Alphard. Yay! (no luck on the Russian name, though.)

Now that I think about it, naming devices with culture appropriate names are also challenging (and I have completely given up on translating spells and arias)

Ugh, don't get me started on Device and spell names. Trying to find a name for a Boost Device that at least semi-correlates to Caro and Lutecia's Devices was nearly impossible. Finding one that actually matched thus far has proven actually impossible.

It's already got the name of Fasces. So it's all named up like Supplice, Tyrfing, and Pitone are. Just need a name for Fasces' wielder.

Speaking of names, I think it would be totally bada** to have characters named after pick-up trucks and SUV's, like "Rebecca Silverado" and "Sebastian Escalade" or something. Seems sports car/sedan names are the norm.
