Just stumbled on this today, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Oh, how accurately they depicted a foot on a cow patty!

Not true at all! I got a kick out of the vet-to-be turning blue and passing out at the sight of the now headless chicken. It would have been even more amusing if they had shown it running around without its head. Hachiken would probably have also passed out at that sight.

Great start. Obviously, this reminded me a lot of Moyashimon since both shows deal with agriculture, but while there are a lot of similarities between the two works, their approaches are very different. Moyashimon focused mostly on biology whereas it looks like Silver Spoon will focus more on farm life. I think I might like this better.

The only thing I didn't like about this episode was the main character's disgust with eggs because of where they come from. How could he even not know that before? There's no way anybody is that ignorant.

One excuse being he's in prep school too much that he lost touch of real life

Well that was one heck of a first episode and start of a series for Hachiken. Right out of the gate get chicken blood in the face. Chasing a cow around, scared by Mikage, marathons, chicken incidents, gusts of wind, etc.

Definitely a good start to the series. Hachiken himself still being a bit of a mystery. Certainly not the normal type to go to a school like that. All we got was the impression that he doesn't really have a dream himself and that muttering under his breath about the fact that this was a boarding school being a reason for why he came.

Lol, that feeling when you see a bookworm student being put to hard labor Delicious.

I'm completely sold on this- sure it's still a high school Anime, but with this setting and how much they focus on out of classroom work, it might as well be a slice of farm life

I don't think it is so much that he didn't know more that he never thought of where it came from, which I think is a common thing.

You eat the food but you never really think about the process. This show definitely goes into the process.

But the food still looks delicious. Rice with raw egg, yum!

Anyways this was my most anticipated series of the summer and it did not disappoint. Great first episode!

The execution in this show is kind of off. It's trying to go for a fish-out-of-water story combined with the author's love for agriculture, but as Kanon mentioned, the main dude is just too clueless for his own good. It kind of reminds me of that Sandra Bullock movie, All About Steve, in that the main is just trying too hard to be a loser, and the fact that very few jokes worked due to bland execution didn't help.

It's not as bad as that movie, as I like the setting and potential for this thing, plus I love Hiromu Arakawa's FMA series, so I'll stick with it for now. But I might bail from this show if I find the main character to be too distracting.

'But its POOP!'

It was okay. Reminds me a lot of Moyamishimon

It's kind of hilarious that Hachiken, a student from city who excels at class subjects didn't even know where the chickens lay eggs from

I think that's a major point of the story - that modern people have no concept of the world that generates the food that keeps them alive.

The biggest laugh of the premiere (which I loved) for me was seeing Maj. Armstrong as the Phys-Ed teacher- complete with Utsumi Kenji as the seiyuu.

I didn't know until recently. I never needed to know, and I still haven't needed to know. As far as I'm concerned, eggs come from boxes sold at the supermarket. Do you expect everyone to know every piece of trivia no matter how insignificant or removed from their experience it is?

I'm seeing this argument - "There's no way anyone wouldn't know that!" - levelled against the series a lot, and I'm baffled by it. Having grown up in a city, I can tell you that most of the kids I went to school with would have been lucky to tell you eggs came from a chicken, never mind which hole they come out of.

Funny, I'm hoping there will be a future episode with ducks and then some anime watchers will go "OMG THEY LAY EGGS TOO???" Yea...

Agreed! I think even if you know subconsciously it is definitely not something you really think about.

Most people eat their food and never think about how it got on their plate.

I expect people to be curious where their food comes from, yes, especially kids. This kind of information is certainly not insignificant. You're eating the damn thing (I'm not eating anything if I don't know what it is). Besides, this struck me as common knowledge. I'm genuinely baffled some people don't know this.

Not where I come from- we don't really have the luxury of being picky with food.

...Well we do, but at the risk of an ass whooping
