As I looked out from the alleyway where I sat, I watched the pouring rain continue to fall. My clothes were drenched and I felt as if I were sitting in a pool of water due to the storm. The weather matched my mood, and I welcomed it. I was confused and alone, not knowing what to think or even where to go.

I looked at the small orb in my hand, the only thing I knew for sure that was important to me. She was my partner, my friend, and one whom I could depend on. Closing my hand around it, I held her to my chest. I felt my partner pulse in my hands, matching my heartbeat as if to tell me she was there for me.

I nodded and slowly moved my hand to my mouth so I could kiss the gem. Even if I was unsure about myself, I knew I wasn't truly alone. She was with me, and she would help me. I bought myself up and stood, looking up at the harsh rain whipping around me. I needed to continue on, and find out everything. I wasn't the type to wait for it to come to me.

Walking out of the alley, I set my bright blue eyes forward, my barrier jacket clinging to my legs with each step I took. The black material shifted as I did, and I felt as if were a second skin to me. The blue gem formed a black and pink staff in my hand and I started walking faster. My short hair flew back as I took off into the air and flew towards a place that felt like it was calling to me.

Nanoha. I liked that name.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother. She’s always been such an important friend to me, yet I can’t help but think this is only one sided. When she has a request for me, I’m all too happy to oblige her, whether it is babysitting Vivio for the night or helping her research new teaching material from some of the manuals found here at the library. Often would I drop what I was doing and spend sleepless nights trying to please her.

But for all my efforts I’d receive a curt thanks and nothing more. I could live with that, I suppose, yet when I see the way she enthusiastically praises Fate or even Vita, I can’t help but wonder what exactly it is I am lacking. Did I not do a good enough job for her? Or did she just not care? Was I just some random person who was convenient for asking favours of? She says we’re friends but… why doesn’t she act like it?

She told me that I was free to ask anything of her and she would be happy to comply, but her words do not match her actions. I ask for a little bit of her time, nothing too serious, just a chat over a cup of tea or a full course lunch at the most. But no, she always declines at best, and gives me a slightly sour expression at worst. She said I could ask her anything, yet why does she appear annoyed when I do so? I’d understand if she was just busy, but a few times no sooner had she stopped talking to me did Hayate appear and invite her to hang out, and she joyously accepted.

What am I supposed to think other than she just doesn’t like me? She’s friendly enough when she wants something, but gives me the cold shoulder when I make a request. What is up with that? That’s hardly fair, isn’t it? She’s supposed to be my friend, so why does she refuse to do something for my sake?

I suppose I’m just being selfish. Chrono tells me that I should never expect things from people because I’ll always be disappointed, but is it really unreasonable to expect a friend to show me some support? What’s the point of having friends then if you can’t trust them to be there for you? But even then, she’s so supportive of all her other friends, so why is it just me?

I do so much and make so many sacrifices for her sake, but is it that I’m just not worth even the smallest favour from her? I’m really not asking for that much, am I? Just a little bit of her time, a little pat on the back once in awhile, or an ear when I’m feeling down. Aren’t those things friends do without you needing to ask them to?

I guess in the end I just don’t know what friends are.

Presuming that you're Yuuno in the story, it means that there's something wrong with you to make her not want to spend time with you. Maybe you're too overbearing or you do things while thinking you're owed in return. At least that's what this short indicates. Whatever it is, find it, change it and try again. If you're wondering about the meaning of "friendship" then it means doing your best for your friend without expecting anything in return. Anything at all. After all, doing things for your friends is not about what you'll get back for it, but doing it because you care.

I awoke with the morning sounds of the city, slowly opening my eyes as I heard the hustle and bustle of the big city life. Cars were honking and the pounding of construction tools somewhere told me it was time to get my day started. Slowly I pulled myself up, getting to my feet atop the three story building where I had slept last night. Walking over to the edge of the building, I looked down a moment before hopping off. Free falling, I descended quickly near the building sides and stopped myself a bit short of the pavement below.

My feet touched the ground softly and I looked around curiously. The sun was mostly hidden by behind lingering clouds and the air was still moist. As cars drove by in front of me, I placed a hand on my stomach to suppress a loud growl. "I guess I'm hungry," I spoke aloud.

"Girls should eat breakfast, or they won't grow up tall and beautiful," a voice made me turn to see a man wearing torn jeans and a white tank top shirt. A backwards cap was on his head and a towel around his neck. He seemed to be the stereotypical loader for a delivery company. "You should go inside there," he pointed to a door where he just came from. "I just delivered them their supplies, they're the best 'mom-and-pop' restaurant in the city."

"I don't have any money," I told him while bowing polity. "But thank you for the suggestion, I will be sure to remember this in the future."

The man looked at me while scratching his head. I knew I looked fretful, having spent the night outside in a thunder storm and air-drying when it slowed down. Despite that, I was still damp, my hair messed up, and generally looking very unkept. "You're... not a run-away are you?" He asked finally.

"No, I don't have any parents."

He sighed, not believing me. "I tried to run away once when I was younger... Tell you what, if I buy you breakfast, will you consider going back home?"

I bowed again, both my hands clasped together in front of me to make it look as formal as possible. "Thank you, sir, but I did not lie. I really don't have any parents."

"Okay, okay. How about this?" He offered me some bills. "Go eat, I won't judge you. In return, promise me you will take care of yourself, lass?"

"Thank you." I accepted the offer and smiled. "I will repay you, I promise."

The man turned and waved over his shoulder. "Yeah, yeah, just take care of yourself. I don't like seeing kids on the streets."

I waved to the nice man and then turned to the restaurant. The place was crammed in between two larger buildings, looking extremely out of place. Despite this, it held a charm to it that was lost of the larger buildings close by. I walked through the door and heard a jingle come from a bell above. A few people glanced at me, offering a nod or a smile over their cup of joe.

"Welcome!" A voice called, drawing my eyes to see a man almost four times my age. "Have a seat, make yourself at home." I did as requested and sat at a booth near the door. "Hey Cherry, table two!"

"You got it, dad!" A female voice replied. Moments later I saw a bright red haired girl with short hair trott over to me happily. "Morning! Are you meeting your parents?"

"I don't have any," I told her honestly. "What will this get me?" I held up the bills I was given and my stomach growled again.

The woman known as cherry blinked at me, but smiled anyway. "A jumbo breakfast platter. Eggs, ham, bacon, pancakes and hash browns. Drink?"

My mouth watered at the words and I nodded. "Milk, please." Cherry scribbled on her pad and went away to talk with her father while nodding over at me. I tried to ignore seeing this, but was confronted with it a few minutes later as a plate was placed in front of me along with a glass of cold liquid.

"Shouldn't you be in a school uniform?" The man asked kindly.

"I don't go to school." I took the silverware and held them properly while cutting my food into bite sized pieces.

"Are your parents worried about you?"

My fork paused as it was brought to my mouth. Hovering for a moment, I took the bite and chewed. After swallowing, I turned to look up at him. "I don't have any, why doesn't anyone believe me?" My eyes turned back to the food and I took another bite, speeding up when I realized that my stomach was actually hurting a bit because it had been a while since I last ate.

"What's your name?" The voice sounded caring, so I looked back up at the man.

"Nanoha Takamachi."

"The same as the famous instructor, wow." He grinned. "Well, Nanoha-chan. Enjoy your meal okay?" Before I could reply, Cherry ran past us, calling out that she would be late for school if she didn't leave then. "And just before the normal crowd too... going to be a busy day."

Over the course of my meal, several people came into the diner. Amazingly, the place filled up to the point where people were actually standing near the door waiting for a table. I felt bad for taking my time, but once I started getting full, I wanted to savor the meal. The man who brought me my plate was running all over the place waiting tables and I couldn't help but ask when he came to check up on me. "Sir... Do you need help?" He gave me a curious glance, so I elaborated. "I can help you wait on tables, if you would like? I need a way to make some money." I looked at my cleaned plate.

He grinned at me. "Well, I can't say I couldn't use it. Thank you, Nanoha-chan, consider yourself hired then." He patted me on the back when I stood up. "But we'll need to get you into something more friendly. I have a change of clothes from my youngest in the back."

I smiled and followed him, accepting the fact that being in a barrier jacket wouldn't be good for business.

Had to lay some foundation here, so not a very good part. It did give me a chance to show how our girl acts, though, so its not all bad. :3

I didn't have much of a problem with part 2, at least a little exposition is kind of required here, especially for those (like me) who never played the game she's ported from.

Interesting look at her priorities though. Most evil usuper types tend to go right for the prize, not look for gainful employment to support themselves. A good way to set her motivations right at the start.

I don't really know what to think about this... I mean, the writing is pretty good as always, and the message gets across easily, but... I can't really picture the content, IYKWIM.

One could stretch that she's overly concious about him, and that's why she treats him coldly, or the other way around, in what she would think he was overly concious about her.

I rambled here, but that only managed to confuse myself even more, so I'll stop here.

My eyes turned back to the food and I took another bite, speeding up when I realized that my stomach was actually hurting a bit because it had been a while since I last ate.

"What's your name?" The voice sounded caring, so I looked back up at the man.

"Nanoha Takamachi."

"The same as the famous instructor, wow." He grinned. "Well, Nanoha-chan. Enjoy your meal okay?" Before I could reply, Cherry ran past us, calling out that she would be late for school if she didn't leave then. "And just before the normal crowd too... going to be a busy day."

Over the course of my meal, several people came into the diner. Amazingly, the place filled up to the point where people were actually standing near the door waiting for a table. I felt bad for taking my time, but once I started getting full, I wanted to savor the meal. The man who brought me my plate was running all over the place waiting tables and I couldn't help but ask when he came to check up on me. "Sir... Do you need help?" He gave me a curious glance, so I elaborated. "I can help you wait on tables, if you would like? I need a way to make some money." I looked at my cleaned plate.

He grinned at me. "Well, I can't say I couldn't use it. Thank you, Nanoha-chan, consider yourself hired then." He patted me on the back when I stood up. "But we'll need to get you into something more friendly. I have a change of clothes from my youngest in the back."

I smiled and followed him, accepting the fact that being in a barrier jacket wouldn't be good for business.

Had to lay some foundation here, so not a very good part. It did give me a chance to show how our girl acts, though, so its not all bad. :3

Hm, so she's in the StrikerS era? Will you elaborate where she's been since A's or does it not really matter? She's certainly acting more helpful and cute than I imagined her to be, but that's not a bad thing

Don't worry about it. Like I said, it was just to vent so it reflects more how I feel about a situation in my life rather than how the characters would actually act.

If it was only something that you needed to get off your chest, it's amazing how you managed to transport yourself to the character.

As I looked out from the alleyway where I sat, I watched the pouring rain continue to fall. My clothes were drenched and I felt as if I were sitting in a pool of water due to the storm. The weather matched my mood, and I welcomed it. I was confused and alone, not knowing what to think or even where to go.

I looked at the small orb in my hand, the only thing I knew for sure that was important to me. She was my partner, my friend, and one whom I could depend on. Closing my hand around it, I held her to my chest. I felt my partner pulse in my hands, matching my heartbeat as if to tell me she was there for me.

I nodded and slowly moved my hand to my mouth so I could kiss the gem. Even if I was unsure about myself, I knew I wasn't truly alone. She was with me, and she would help me. I bought myself up and stood, looking up at the harsh rain whipping around me. I needed to continue on, and find out everything. I wasn't the type to wait for it to come to me.

Walking out of the alley, I set my bright blue eyes forward, my barrier jacket clinging to my legs with each step I took. The black material shifted as I did, and I felt as if it were a second skin to me. The blue gem formed a black and pink staff in my hand and I started walking faster. My short hair flew back as I took off into the air and flew towards a place that felt like it was calling to me.

Nanoha. I liked that name.

I would take it.

I awoke with the morning sounds of the city, slowly opening my eyes as I heard the hustle and bustle of the big city life. Cars were honking and the pounding of construction tools somewhere told me it was time to get my day started. Slowly I pulled myself up, getting to my feet atop the three story building where I had slept last night. Walking over to the edge of the building, I looked down a moment before hopping off. Free falling, I descended quickly near the building sides and stopped myself a bit short of the pavement below.

My feet touched the ground softly and I looked around curiously. The sun was mostly hidden by behind lingering clouds and the air was still moist. As cars drove by in front of me, I placed a hand on my stomach to suppress a loud growl. "I guess I'm hungry," I spoke aloud.

"Girls should eat breakfast, or they won't grow up tall and beautiful," a voice made me turn to see a man wearing torn jeans and a white tank top shirt. A backwards cap was on his head and a towel around his neck. He seemed to be the stereotypical loader for a delivery company. "You should go inside there," he pointed to a door where he just came from. "I just delivered them their supplies, they're the best 'mom-and-pop' restaurant in the city."

"I don't have any money," I told him while bowing polity. "But thank you for the suggestion, I will be sure to remember this in the future."

The man looked at me while scratching his head. I knew I looked fretful, having spent the night outside in a thunder storm and air-drying when it slowed down. Despite that, I was still damp, my hair messed up, and generally looking very unkept. "You're... not a run-away are you?" He asked finally.

"No, I don't have any parents."

He sighed, not believing me. "I tried to run away once when I was younger... Tell you what, if I buy you breakfast, will you consider going back home?"

I bowed again, both my hands clasped together in front of me to make it look as formal as possible. "Thank you, sir, but I did not lie. I really don't have any parents."

"Okay, okay. How about this?" He offered me some bills. "Go eat, I won't judge you. In return, promise me you will take care of yourself, lass?"

"Thank you." I accepted the offer and smiled. "I will repay you, I promise."

The man turned and waved over his shoulder. "Yeah, yeah, just take care of yourself. I don't like seeing kids on the streets."

I waved to the nice man and then turned to the restaurant. The place was crammed in between two larger buildings, looking extremely out of place. Despite this, it held a charm to it that was lost of the larger buildings close by. I walked through the door and heard a jingle come from a bell above. A few people glanced at me, offering a nod or a smile over their cup of joe.

"Welcome!" A voice called, drawing my eyes to see a man almost four times my age. "Have a seat, make yourself at home." I did as requested and sat at a booth near the door. "Hey Cherry, table two!"

"You got it, dad!" A female voice replied. Moments later I saw a bright red haired girl with short hair trott over to me happily. "Morning! Are you meeting your parents?"

"I don't have any," I told her honestly. "What will this get me?" I held up the bills I was given and my stomach growled again.

The woman known as cherry blinked at me, but smiled anyway. "A jumbo breakfast platter. Eggs, ham, bacon, pancakes and hash browns. Drink?"

My mouth watered at the words and I nodded. "Milk, please." Cherry scribbled on her pad and went away to talk with her father while nodding over at me. I tried to ignore seeing this, but was confronted with it a few minutes later as a plate was placed in front of me along with a glass of cold liquid.

"Shouldn't you be in a school uniform?" The man asked kindly.

"I don't go to school." I took the silverware and held them properly while cutting my food into bite sized pieces.

"Are your parents worried about you?"

My fork paused as it was brought to my mouth. Hovering for a moment, I took the bite and chewed. After swallowing, I turned to look up at him. "I don't have any, why doesn't anyone believe me?" Well to go ahead and clear it up, this takes place during Vivid. As to why Material-S is in Vivid's timeline, 9 years old, instead of in A's timeline at nine years old.......well, you'll have to wait :3

Don't worry about not knowing the character from the PSP game, I don't know her well at all. I plan on making her into something from what limited knowledge I have from my japanese friends.
