Got back into my nostalgic MMO tonight (eq2)... but it was very empty. It will be morbidly interesting to see how many MMOs this debacle has actually killed. A few weeks will tell... at the least I may be scouting for a new guild.

Rejoice! As of the time of this writing PSN service has been restored to all of North America (Canada and USA).

So the hacking happened just when my vacation began... and is fixed just when my vacation ends.

Looks like Sony's web security is still pretty terrible:

Good Lord. That took a long time.
I just found out last night that one of my favorite game's from the 90s is available on the Store, so they'd better fix that quickly so I can download it. I should've found the PC disk of the game when I was at home and just tried to play that. Reading some stuff about the PSX version online, the PSX version was markedly inferior. Oh well. As long as I get to play the original G-Police while I'm bored out of my mind this summer, I'll be happy. EDIT: And looking at that list of games... yuck. Not a single one in witch I'd be remotely interested.

There was an exploit on the PSN password recovery page, but it looks like it has been fixed now. You wonder how sony vet their employees and applicants. Anyone now still defending sony, must really be blindly in love with them. read more on giantbomb.com BTW don't panic it has been fixed or measurements have been taken, afaik, but still, sloppy things like this should not have happened. |

It doesn't matter to me since I'd be changing my password via the console itself and not through the site. ^_^
But really, to hold back the entirety of Asia (not just Japan)...due to their own national probe. I'm not really impatient (since I got the new Blazblue CS2 patch to throw down the hours) but I just can't quite agree there. Anyways, in the light of all this "fear" and netizens believing rumors rather than facts, Sony is not doing itself any favors with this (though it seems they quickly patched it up).

And for those who think a week was too long before notifying customers might not know that most companies have taken much longer to do so and some even longer but most breaches of this kind go unreported so just be lucky they even notified everyone.
