I'm getting more and more hyped about this. And I was already very hyped in the first place. The posters look really gorgeous.

I have no complain about the style of the character designs (already watched the OVA long ago), but I do have complain about unnecessarily-slutty getup donned by Farangis. This kind of MMORPG female attires always gave the impression that the wearer has weird fetishes. She could be an exibishionist or an "M" who is begging to be beaten and raped in a battle by a guy strong enough to defeat her *looking at American female superheroes in revealing tights*

He doesn't have to, he's proven his range ages ago. Anyone still out claiming that has either heard too little of him or are too busy jumping up and down in their hate wagon to actually stop and listen.

It's degrading, that's what it is. Here we have a character who is supposed to be dignified, wise, accomplished and commanding respect. And what happens to her? She gets turned into a walking fap fantasy. "Hey look, boobs! (and apparently no panties!)" I mean, if at least she looked elegant or refined! In the novel illustrations Arakawa seems to be basing her designs on she at least looks graceful in a standard high-fantasy-warrior-priestess way, if also objectified to hell and back. But with Arakawa's art... yeah. "Elegant and refined" is not her forte. I just can't take her seriously like this...

(At this point I'd make a rhetoric demand that Daryun, Narsas, etc. go around shirtless, wearing low-rise pants for the entire story, but with this art style, I'm not sure I'd want that... )

Okay, now I really want to see a Hara or Araki version of Arslan.... Watsuki could be a nice choice, but personally I would've preferred someone who doesn't do shounen manga. One of my issues with Arakawa's manga, art and storytelling choices aside, that it reads like a shounen adventure manga. :/ It's kind of like giving the new LoGH anime adaptation to, say, Kawamori Shouji. I like Kawamori a lot, but his style is just not a good fit for something like LoGH. (<- and now let's wait for the reveal that the new LoGH anime adaptation is helmed by Kawamori... suddenly the story has 100% more giant mecha and 1000% more romance.)

Seriously. This is certainly a voice I haven't heard from him before, but he definitely sounds good.

I was excited to hear they were making this but now that I've seen the character designs.....well, I'll still watch it, but I'm pretty damn disappointed. They are such dull, ugly designs compared to the Amano art. Oh well, I'll try to overlook that and hope the story is good.

Re: the story, if they 1) follow the novel and 2) manage to get 24-26 episodes and 3) reach the logical point of conclusion then it'll be good, if most likely pretty rushed or at the very least streamlined. It's the presentation that I'm worried about. Hopefully it will be less "Arakawa Hiromu" and more "Tanaka Yoshiki".

By the way, your sig makes me imagine the characters as designed by Yuuki Nobuteru... what a glimpse of "could have been"...

See, the character designs aren’t bad at all when it’s properly animated. That’s why I didn’t complain about it (though I still don’t like Farangis’ slutty getup). Yes, things could’ve been better (like 80% of things in entertainment industry out there) but I like what I see so far. Music is very good, really got you in the mood. All that matters now is the animation quality consistency and how they execute the story.

Nope, I still don't like them. They still look like every Arakawa character ever and it's really distracting.

More importantly, though... they'll start with the first chapter of the manga?! No no no... ;______; I so hoped they'd cut that. That's just so wrong!

See, what grates on me so much is that the basis of this show is something that I don't see the anime changing (or wanting to change), and that's the one thing I don't like about it. :/ Otherwise I'd have no issue with this whatsoever...

Based on all the materials available so far it still feels more like a parody of what it is supposed to be. Arakawa's exaggerated style isn't helping.
