The overwhelming majority of Senate votes are decided on a simple up-down majority. Filibusters are historically quite rare and an impeachment trial basically a one-off (or in Orange's case a two-off). The whole notion of it being more compromise-driven was always overblown, and McConnell basically finished it off.

I think people in the USA should not become complacent after last night trump video message urging people to refrain from violence. We all already know that teleprompter trump is fake trump, it is plain to see to anyone (but the blind) that he recorded it because he is afraid this time around he might get convicted. He still inserted some clear digs at face facebook & twtter (it is beyond hypocritical for him to talk about freedom of expression when he had a clear intention during his presidency to reform libel laws to make it easy for the rich to legally harass anyone that said something that made the oligarchy uncomfortable).

So in the coming days and weeks stay away from crowds people of the USA, covid19 is deadly but armed mobs are more so.

Well this time the national guard is going to be on hand so it's not going to be so easy this time. It's really going to boil down to whether or not the extremists go full fanatic and attack anyway for no other reason but to shed blood to bring war "for the cause".

Honestly if they do attack again and we see more causalities I think it'll be this that finishes Trump off in the Impeachment trial. People are going to want somebody to pay for this and assign blame to and Trump would fit the bill and I think even Republicans would throw Trump under the bus for this.

Well looks like it's Rudy's turn to be thrown under the bus as Trump is apparently withholding paying his legal fees to his loyal toady out of rage for Rudy failing to stop the House from Impeaching him again.

Obviously Rudy must have evilly betrayed his Master as poor old innocent Trump could never have been impeached otherwise, especially for no reason at all. Those mean old Democrats are always picking on him.

Nothing and no one is safe from being a scapegoat for anything that goes wrong in Trump's life. Everything is always someone else's fault.

Pretty par for the course for Trump to withhold pay. Was going to happen eventually regardless with how many donors, business partners, deals, etc that he been losing over his temper tantrums these last few months. Not to mention all the bills and lawsuits that are going to swarm him when he loses the protection of the presidency. Trump probably won’t even have the money himself soon.

Actually 10 votes for the GOP was the most in history. But right now, there is more pressing issues then John Sullivan right now

Wow seems like even a small minority of his devout voter base is turning on Trump after he finally denounced the rioting and violence. He could shoot someone in the middle of 5th ave and they would praise him. Denounce them and they will turn on him...

People keep saying they have proof of the election fraud, but never publicly product it.

Some say it was there, but it is being suppressed by the media.

The conspiracy theorist keep getting fed.

And some think it would be Constitutionally minded, if there was a last minute (forcible) reversal on the 20th. However, it should be pointed out, that without the election being overturned (its too late for that now), anything else that results is President-elect Biden and others being unable to take office, it will go down the chain, per law, until there is a living person to be President, much like Ford as an appointed President due to the rules, and not elected following the resignations of Agnew and later Nixon post-Watergate. There is no legal way for Trump to remain President at this point.

Conspiracy theorists will never change their mind, I have legit seen Trump french supporters telling everyone that something big will happen january 20th. I do fear one thing for Inauguration Day, its one Trump nutjob deciding to never accept the result and bring a gun.

While one gunman is one fear, the general level of security that is going into the District of Columbia and all 50 state capitals for the 20th seems more like they are afraid of a civil war breaking out.

I don't see any protest events planned for the 20th, not by mainstream Republican orgs, not in right-wing communities, not even in Q-world.

Of course, can't deny the possibility of terrorism by small groups, but I doubt anything is going to happen.

It's not like the vast majority of people that were in DC on the 6th want to risk being arrested. They followed the 6 PM curfew and went home.

They don't have anywhere near enough people to have any real chance of overthrowing the country, what people are afraid of is the bloodbath that'll be forced to put them down and the damage and disruption that they'll do in return while other countries sit back, watch, and pass the popcorn.
