Ep 10

A LocoDol competition (as opposed to the mascot based one in earlier eps), eh? Essentially what writing the lyrics for their performing song turns out to be is something like an assessment or evaluation of her experience as a LocoDol proper before now and attempting to express that in song.

I thought it was a great idea, personally, but I have a feeling they are going to run into other LocoDols at the competition who are immensely popular (in comparison) and much more like the popular music idols in the entertainment business. In other words, who reflect the second half of the word LocoDol (i.e. idol) rather than the first. Yet the very thing that makes Nanyako (even moreso than Yukari) so effective at what she does is the first half of the phrase (i.e. local) - and the contest or happy end will be related to her allowing that innate quality of hers to shine.

Wonder if they will make the other LocoDols they go against into "bad guys" or just "normal folks" at root (like in the mascot competition)?

I liked this episode 10.
It was fun watching the story of the song being written thruout the whole episode.
The rest of the episodes for this season felt kind of separate parts glued together to make some sort of narrative.

This is one of the few where it felt like it told a full story in one episode.
argh @ the the tease of the song, saving it for next episode I guess.

lol @ the first draft of the song.

Ep 11

And yet another simple, quiet ep of Nanako and Yukari being themselves ... at least in this ep it looks like they developed the focus on success as a locodol in the ability to promote the place one is representing and contrasted it with the national success being an idol brings with it ... and interestingly the main people that that angle of things was presented from were the Awa Awa Girls, who have already "made it big" and are wistfully remembering the local aspect of their work.

Whether or no that same principle will hold out in the final ep remains to be seen, but I would not be surprised if Awa Awa Girls or the Love Glasses Girls (was that their name?) win, but the Nagarekawa Girls get a special "tried their best" prize kinda thing, but are unable to officially receive it because they have bolted off to be at the local festival in Nagarekawa per se.

This really is a charming series.

Episode 11 was fun.
Good seeing other locodol groups that are bigger in scale than the Nagarekawa Girls. Especially in who they're employed by.

I liked the perspective from the Awa Awa Girls meeting them, and the scene did a great job of showing their experience and knowledge of the industry with them right away analyzing the group. Down to a girl getting confused at first if Nana was a cat girl character lol. Also, them leaving shades and disguise lol.

The glasses locodol group was also interesting in them catering to a specific demographic.

One of the things I liked about the latest episode is that it demonstrates a key difference between Locodols and just general Idols.

Going by the standards of general idols, Awa Awa Girls are indeed doing fantastic. They hardly could be doing any better by that standard.

But as the Awa Awa Girls themselves point out, they're not selling their local goods as well as they are their own merchandise, and that's arguably not a good thing given what a "locodol" is said to be.

I might have more to write about this latest episode later, but work calls.

Catching up after three weeks of missed anime...as I've come to expect from this series, it could hardly get anymore heartwarming or pleasant. It might be ending in one more episode, but I'm holding out for that season 2. This is close to the top of all the yuri-tinged 4koma adaptations I've ever seen.

I'm pretty hyped to hear the new Nagarekawa Girls song next up. What we've heard of the instrumental thus far sounds great. More than just that, however, I've been pretty in love with all of the music in this show up to now. Both of the girls' stage songs thus far are pretty well-composed and neat-sounding on their own, but my appreciation jumped up after seeing some of the offshoot/side-performances fans/the Locodol anime team have made from it.
Spoiler for Uogokoro-kun Song:

Spoiler for Ah, Nagarekawa:

In any case, just as an aside from Nana and Yukari (and Yui and Mirai) for a moment. I'm kinda amazed that one of the fictional idol groups highlighted in the latest ep. was glasses girls. It's like, damn, right in my strike zone, lol. I wonder if such an idol group would be too maniac to exist in real life...if not, I could very well be forced to become an idol wota, sheesh...

Ep 12

A fine, satisfying and rather expected final ep to this pleasant series - although there will be a 13th ep bundled with the first BD volume, I think? I guess the ep preview was for the "13th ep" and is titled "We tried giving a tour of Nagarakawa".

Was kinda surprised for Nagarakawa Girls winding up to be the closing act. And their new hand made outfits were actually pretty fitting, I thought.

We also get to finally hear their new song, which turned out to be different from the OP and ED - and I felt it was entirely appropo not only for the two of them, but perhaps even as a ... erm ... "generalized manifesto" for LocoDols in general, maybe? Working in flashbacks from the eps worked quite well in getting across the overall feel, I thought. Overall it was kinda "homey" and definitely "local" but endearing and warm without being poser-ish, I guess?

Was not overly surprised that the Awa Awa Girls won (though the Glasses Cute group was who I secretly suspected), but I liked the heads up to Yukari and Nanako applauding their focus on the local levels. ^^

Maybe a little "cheesy" in the final performance back in their hometown and all, but not especially pretentious, I thought.

The Elvis imitation from Nanako's uncle was horrible and funny at the same time, though. The poor people there.

The song was pretty good.
It better have been, since they teased us with it for 3 episodes.

Glad they didn't win the contest, it be too much cinderella for me. So it was good that they just got there time in the stoplight.

The editor for the song is a genius for turning Nanako's 'locodol diary' into the resulting song.

Decent idol series, with a good mix of cheerfulness and education.
Giving this a 8/10 for me.

The final song in this season was actually better than I had thought but the show wasn't really impressive imo. It was definitely cute though on a variety of levels.

The "next" episode is the OVA bundled with the volume 1 Blu-Ray, so yes, this week's airing was the last TV episode.

On the other hand, BD 1 releases next week, so perhaps it won't be so long until ep. 13 becomes available. Presumably Crunchyroll won't have it though. ...Considering the modest sales expectations for these types of shows, this is the precisely the sort of thing which makes me want to be more proactive about importing anime.

Ep. 12 was lovely and very satisfying but I'll admit it doesn't give much closure. I'm really glad they're doing an OVA.

Just for posterity, here's a collection of the eyecatches and endcards for this show. I know the Crunchyroll streams didn't include the endcards.

Good and satisfying ending for a good series
Locodol is very normal and didnt get lot of attention but this kind of anime is still better than anime which had a flashy start and lot of budget but turns out didnt meet expectation

It will be perfect finale if they show uogokoro-kun

I got what I expected from the start till the end. Simple, relaxing, adorable, and fun.

It was a good season. If there's gonna be a 2nd season, I would watch it.

Nanyako for best girl!
