2. Amano herself is working with studio on this anime (it was said, that she's drawing some new charas for it) But publisher already listed this as OVA, unfortunately.

i would love for them to animate Marriage to the Sea. But based on speculation and what we've seen from the trailer, Ai will at least play some role in an undine capacity, which isn't written in the manga at all. and yes, Amano is involved in some capacity ("I'm happy to revisit Neo-Venezia after so many years") but character design is vastly different from writing new scenarios and storyboarding. i'm faithful enough to the original series to believe if she doesn't shape it from start to finish, it won't be the same

A question: in the last chapter of the manga, page 164, it's revealed that her penpal, Zen rya-ku, is Cait Sith ... the very large black cat spirit, and the next page, 165, has her writing to (the penpal) to come visit her if visiting Aqua and ride on her gondola , "at least once"... then states the year et al, and finally has 4 panels on the bottom showing different people (on Earth of Man-Home) viewing web pages... is the suggestion here that Cait is helping to send her message out to the world? Divine guidance/assitance? No faces are shown, 3 adults, one kid... interesting.
That final few manga chapters do convey the 'dull routine' of adult life (for most people) that Alicia mentioned to Akari, which I'll have to watch the final episode or two again, but this aspect wasn't captured as well as in the manga... some of that realism of life creeping in at the end.... as the transition from childhood to adulthood is made... the final frontier.... we understand why Alicia wanted to stay with Akari, as it reminded her of those times as a trainee herself with her friends ... yet also why Alicia wanted to leave.... these final chapters also covered Aika's reasoning for crying mentioned as a question by Akari to Alicia... to which Alicia, apparently suddenly, decides in response, to tell her her prima exam will be the next day... and all that follows to the last page is that answer. The comparison to the anime is interesting, as the VA work, the fluid motion of the directing/animation and especially the music really lifted the story from the manga to a whole other level. It was interesting that the anime only stories that I remember dealt with the timeslip aspects of Akari dealing with Aqua's past.... that little girl's lost letter and the flood. Great episodes, though unexplained without Cait involvement, thus my question before about those 4 panels of people... is it implied that they are in the 'dull routine' of life in search of a different path, as Akari mentions at the end (of the manga much more so than the anime)... or what? The one exception is the boy/ kid in the last of those 4 panels, but that could be a referrence to Akari's youthful spirit as a child when she was searching on the net and found a mention of Neo-Venezia.Cait sending the message of Aqua out or what? One other point is that I always thought the 3 fairies were in their mid to late 20s when watching the anime, and even when reading the manga, though it says their age is 19-20... which doesn't make sense, but then none of the time aspects do, like how grandma ages so much.... blame it on gravity like Al being short, but growing slowly in his early 20s? Epigenetic? I finally watched this anime after liking the director's "Tamayura" project, which is original I think, and sort of flips the dramatic ending of Aria around and has the drama in the beginning and subsequently throughout as the main female character relearning how to be happy... or something like that... but like most, life seems to end after high school/training period with the implication that all that follows falls into that 'dull routine', which is hard to escape without constant vigilance.... staying present or in the moment... as Alicia says in Akari's memory of that scene. Too bad it isn't 1080p... PS... does the penpal's name mean anything in Japanese? Last edited by gdpetti; 2015-05-27 at 15:42. |

I see it as Cait Sith observing the fruits of his work in showing Akari the world of Aqua/Neo Venezia in the most mundane way possible, sitting in an old building with a tiny laptop. I think the implication here is that Cait Sith isn't necessarily a magical/divine being, but rather the author's own conduit for instilling a sense of mystery and wonder in those (like Akari and Ai) who visit Neo Venezia---the same role Akari and the undines now fill for tourists and readers alike. Namely, those four tourists are shown so we can get a sense of continuation after the manga ends. Quote:

And I still don't think Cait Sith is sending on anything, he seems to be a mere observer when it comes to the emails. Quote:
But I guess... just like in most anime/manga, the listed age shouldn't really matter (except when it comes to ahem a more mature subject matter) so I wouldn't mind this that much. All I paid attention to was the elder/guiding role an older generation fulfilled, not the actual age. Quote:

Tamayura reminds me of Akari at the end... especially from the manga as she talks about going out to find customers/clients... just like all the other new primas... she is talking to the mailman near the very end when he is her first customer as a prima... she doesn't know his name... and he has moved into the office instead of his regular route on the water (another bookending affect as he was the first to bring her to Aria after she got off the spaceship, and there to meet her was the cat... president Aria... Akari was expecting a human) There's an inherent sadness or melancholy that Tamayura shows... makes you wonder how much of that experience has rubbed off on the director... and same for the mangaka by the end, though she has Akari end with a big smile as usual... but it's right after she pushes through past memories and we are introduced to the new trainee, Ai. There's a lot of mirroring/bookending in the storyline, especially in the manga.... the mailman is moving/changing his path as well... as are the all... which is typical during any such 'graduation' period in life.... now the difficulty is trying to stay happy in the face of the new norms of being an adult, responsibilities etc... not an easy thing to do as life's experiences keep piling up... if one is aware and observant anyway.
The mangaka could be a representation of Cait Sith, at least in a way, though in the manga, she is represented by a larger cat with a human face or mask of sorts, just not that large, when she makes comments of thanks at the end of volumes.... though this difference seems to imply that she is reaching for a larger 'angel on my shoulder' affect or guardian angel/spirit or persona guiding Akari to the wonders of Aqua... and just her, as no one else has these experiences, though in the anime Ai is used as her penpal... she doesn't exist in the manga until that last couple of pages... a newbie from Man-Home like Akari was... another example of the elder from Aria company hiring/training someone like themselves to replace them... to keep or maintain that same sense of being/feeling that grandma first started with the cat... as grandma encountered that same sense of 'dull routine'.... which the anime doesn't mention in Alicia's conversation with AKari... at least not that I remember, but then from the start of this anime, the problem has always been a question of finances, which determine how many seasons, episodes will/can be produced... thus the need to contract or expand... but Akino/grandma's 'dull routine' is dramatized in the OVA... or was that in Origination that shows her meeting the cat and staying out in the rain with it? I didn't get the feel of more penpals from that 4 panel set... and only the one name of a penpal is mentioned: Zen rya-ku, which is why I wondered if it meant anything in Japanese, other than a simple name. It does seem, by the end of both manga and anime, that ALicia's leaving is being forewarned with all those day long meetings with the Committee... regular meetings don't last that long. She's obviously undergoing some training of her own, but I think both manga and anime have ALicia mentioned how she was being selfish in not promoting Akari sooner... though I thought perhaps this could have also been ALicia remembering how Akira felt being the last of their trio to pass the prima test... so maybe that was another excuse for her to push away that final test for Akari... this is emphasized a little bit more in the manga perhaps(she even asks grandma about it).... as Alicia is the one gving Akari most of the explanations of things on Aqua in the manga, whereas in the anime, I believe it is usually one of the other girls in her trio, ALice or Aika. Alicia probably remembers how she felt after becoming a priima and left alone to run the Aria company... same situation she will put Akari in once the test is given and passed... pushing back that day of reckoning for Akari but from the manga, it seems to be ALicia pushing it back for herself... she's the one that doesn't feel ready... though once Akira has passed Aika, there's no reason to continue preventing the flow of time... self realization of ALicia that she has to let go and move on herself... retire from one position and start the other.... which is interesting in that she must have been picked for that role in the committee because of her personality as well as her position, as Orange Planet is expanding so fast that prices must be falling and there will simply be too many primas around, all of them will be standing around like Akari looking for customers... limits will have to be agreed upon, same as back in the original Venezia on Man-Home. There are many issues like this that are mentioned just a teeny bit, perhaps unknowingly or perhaps to maintain that Aria smile in the face of reality that the mangaka enjoys... but especially in the final chapters, are hard to ignore, even in a fantasy world that Aqua seems to have become for her and Akari... who is the only one encountering Cait Sith... (Ai in the anime once)... Akari seems more attuned to the planet than the locals in this manner... an intuitive thing, which the director, Sato, pushes even more in those anime only episodes of the little girl with the letter and the lady teacher she meets in that timeslip over the covered bridge... a lot of unspoken implications throughout this series.. like everytime ALicia leaves Akari with Akatsuki laughing as if they are a couple.... the ring chapter, the roses chapter etc. You can imagine the conversation once she gets back to ARia company and ALicia laughs with a few more 'ara, ara's. This is the same with why Akari left Man-Home in the first place... looking for an escape from the 'dull routine' of Earth with its conveniences and crowds I presume... maybe using Tokyo as an example? Maybe there aren't any rural areas on Man-Home anymore, not in the sense of few people? maybe there are masses everywhere, with everyone on some device all the time? Aqua would seem like a dream by comparison... though it seems that very, very few choose to stay on Aqua, most just prefer to visit it like some ancient Disneyland. |

Don't mix names. Sanya is short from Alexandra while Anya is short from Anna (Ann). Thought I still remember how they called Anastasia from IMAS Anya although short form from Anastasia is Nastya.

O_O
This ... This is so awesome! I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this! Just ... whoa. I very much like the idea of Akari, Alice and Aika all having pair/single trainees ... very much looking forward to that dynamic.

Anime News Network:
The anime will consist of three episodes: the first episode is titled "Sono Aitakatta Anata ni..." (To You, Who I Wanted to Meet...), the second episode is titled "Sono Atataka na Sayonara wa..." (That Warm Goodbye...), and the third episode is titled "Sono Harukanaru Mirai e..." (To That Far Away Future...). The first two episodes are two stories from the original manga that were not previously adapted into anime. Amano will also draw a completely new manga chapter that will serve as the basis for the story of Aria the Avvenire's third episode. |
