Nerds as main characters...
I already seen many anime featuring jocks as main characters such as Slam Dunk,Eyeshield 21,Dear Boys,Captain Tsubasa and many more sport-themed anime.There is no such thing as "jocks" for Japanese but they close to.Do you know about anime which the nerds as main characters instead of jocks.Let the nerds become cool.

All these shows star an arguably nerdy lead or nerdy ensemble...
Cromartie High School for good nonsensical comedy... Desert Punk (Sunabouzu) for fun, action-packed light ecchi comedy... Green Green for ridiculously raunchy and dirty relationship comedy... Golden Boy for sensitive and educational ecchi comedy... Love Hina for more slapstick ecchiness... Yeah nerds kinda lurk in the ecchi genre... Also with nerdy leads: BECK for slice of life "making the band" realism... His and Her Circumstances for great relationship HS comedy starring a female nerd in disguise... Dokkaida for Soopa hero fake Kamen Rider styled action comedy... Oh BTW I consider nerds more than just the booksmart type, but the socially inept, basic outcasts, or goofball clumsy characters aswell...

You might want to watch the movie Paprika as well. The nerdiest character isn't the main lead, but he plays an significant role throughout the story.
All the main characters in Dennou Coil might be considered nerdy because they're all practicing "l33t" hacking skills.

seriously you ask a serie with a nerd in it you always end up mostly at harem :P
like stated earlier i think you could try ichigo100% or GTO both are good choices well if you need like nerd whose strong but doesnt fit in society i think Full metal panic because the guy doesnt have any idea how it goes in the normal world |

Yeah, come on, Onizuka's not a nerd. He rides a bike and beats people up for a living.
I guess I could add Onegai Teacher, Kei has the whole nerd look going. He's got some friends, but he's by no means a jock, and I definitely consider him a nerd.
