Tsubasa Chronicle (there's some worlds in which they use magical powers)
Rozen Maiden (dolls with magical and physical powers) Read or Die (not really magic, but something like that, a very good show anyway, see the ova first to understand) Ah! My Goddess has goddesses, they use magic, but you see very few fights

Fullmetal Alchemist - alchemists, wizards, same thing
Tweeny Witches - girl finds herself in a world of witches and wizards Negima!? - ehh, looked promising at first but kind of crappy. there's also the alternate Negima series... kinda crappy as well, but the main char is a mage/wizard/whatever |

You could always try Scrapped Princess, which I think had magic/wizards in it.
Shining Tears x Wind has magic in it, but I can't vouch for it in terms of its story (personal preference). Not sure if I'd call them wizards. And Fate/Stay Night is always worth a second. |

Here's a couple that no one mentioned yet;
Kaze no Stigma - About the son of a family of fire-magic users, who gets kicked out for not being able to use fire. Years later he returns as a powerful wind-magic user. Some cool fights, comedy, drama and a bit of romance. Shonen Onmyoji - About the young grandson of a famous Onmyoji (a kind of magician who fights demons) who must learn how to use his powers to surpass his grandfather and protect a young princess. |

Tweeny Witches is unfortunately the best recommendation I can come up with. Story itself is good but its execution is rather poor, and it's more of a children's anime. Still, the characters look unique and adorable, the fantasy world looks pretty, it's animated well (not just well, but in style~the way I like it), and has plenty of fantasy intrigues (although bit childish) that are very appealing. It's a pretty decent fantasy series if you can overlook its flaws and appreciate the innocent charm of it.
