Just saw episode 1 and Alice had me the minute she said, "Aku Zoku Zan," or as Eclipse translated it, "Slay-evil-immediately!" I wonder why they put those hyphens in the phrase.
That girl is seriously intense! And if anyone is curious about why I LOLed at "Aku Zoku Zan," to quote Mentar, Wikipedia is your friend.

The first time I heard "Aku Soku Zan" I immediately thoguht of... Hajime Saitou! (From Rurouni Kenshin) I'll always associate him with that phrase even if you were to brainwash me. I was always reactive to his character. I remember I couldn't get over the fact that he of all people was married for almost a year (because Kenshin almost exploded when he heard it too.)
But she isn't half as badass (or mean for that matter).

And I have to praise the work on the CG. It really blended in quite well with the rest of the art. Usually, you get something completely out of place, out of sync, but I thought Gonzo did a nice job here. |

Jäger = German for hunter We decided NOT to go with the literal translation, because "ghost hunter" would sound like Ghostbusters - and the point of Gespenst Jäger (which isn't truly German either, or it would have to be Gespensterjäger) is not hunting ghosts, but a hunter who is a ghost himself. Besides, in the episode the term is immediately explained by the badguy, so there was no need for a (potentially misleading) TLnote. Side comment: The same holds true for "Krankheit Jäger". Krankheit = German for sickness/disease. Again, it would be slightly misleading to directly translate. And again, the _true_ meaning of the term in the Pumpkin Scissors universe is explained immediately thereafter. Rest assured - if a term of German origin is used and NOT explained immediately, I will insist on a TLnote. |

Yeah, I don't know how I forgot to mention how awesome that tank looked - probably because I was about 20 minutes from bedtime when I wrote that. CG in animation has really kicked up in quality lately with Haruhi, Simoun, and now this. And, after that Wikipedia article, Alice is now 20% more awesome than she already was. No matter what happens with the rest of this show, at least she will be memorable. |

Haha I remember one scene when Alice stands at the front of the tank with just her short sword and then she just threaten the bandits by herself. Talk about bravery . That Aku Soku Zan thingy she said earlier in the episode reminds me of Hajime Saitoh from Rurouni Kenshin. He use to say that phrase a lot of times too

Surprisingly good show indeed, thanks to Eclipse for the subbing. The personalities or chara designs of the cast aren't really new, but somehow the alchemy work a lot better than in your average run-of-the-mill show. If you didn't already, watch it.
By the way, i quite like the name of the show, maybe because english isn't my first language. |

Nice first episode, I am hooked. Interesting setting, very good artwork, good music. And if ANN is right Alice's seiyuu is the one of Rei from Marimite which is great.
The only complaint would be the rather clumsy attempts to include humour. P.S. Why do more than half of anime villain leaders seem to have white hair?
