It just occured to me that Ichika would have to "engage" with the girls to get to the phantom residing inside their minds. When he puts the ring on them they start thinking he's going to propose

Ichika: "Don't worry" then he looks at the readers "I will be your last hope"

Girl: "What the hell I thought you were going to ask me to marry you?!"

Ichika: "Why would I do that?"

Girl: "Don't play with a maiden's heart!" *slap*

I say he gets two crotch landings before he's deader than dead. Very likely to be left in a zillion itty bitty pieces so he couldn't be identified.:heh:

That or considering their fantasies. They secretly like said crotch shots and only beat him up as a cover while yelling "Ichika no ecchi".

His Smile is My Summer - Prologue (of sorts)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It started when I showed Yamada the swimsuit I had purchased from the store earlier that day. She was proudly holding up the light yellow halter style bikini next to her body. Glancing it over, I thought she made a good choice. She liked the color yellow and it contrasted nicely with her light green hair.
"Soo~ what does Ms. Orimura think?" She smiled at me with all the expectation of a kouhai awaiting her sempai's input. I couldn't help the rueful smile from appearing on my face.
"It should look great on you, Yamada-kun," I tell her honestly.
"Yay~"
"The 'Lemon-And-Lime' combination you'll make will be a great hit among the guys," I needled her more, causing her to look at me in shock then that oh so childish pout of hers.
"Please don't compare me to sour fruits, Ms. Orimura," she whined.
"Ah yes, I'm sorry. If it's a fruit comparison, it should be melons, not lemons."
"Ms. Orimura," she cried indignantly with a little stamp of her foot. I couldn't help it and burst out laughing.
"Mou~ Since I showed you mine, show me yours," she pouted as she put the swimsuit back in the bag.
"Fine," I said. Looking back, I should have made some excuse not to but since I did tease her, I felt like I owed her. "Here," I said, holding up the black bikini I had bought. My first clue was Yamada's face lighting up...like a tomato. Tomatoes are botanically fruits, you know.
"Ms. Orimura," she hissed, her mouth covered by her hands. "That is such a daring swimsuit!"
"Is it," I asked, looking at it. Well, sure, the bottom part didn't look like it would cover a lot but really, these things were no different than underwear. Ichika knows I have even skimpier pieces than this so it's not that big of a deal for me. "Well, maybe, if we were going to a public beach but since this is a private beach, I'll be fine."
"E-even if you say that," Yamada's eyes were wide as she looked at it. She's probably imagining herself trying to wear something like this. Ah, she's shaking her head - poor girl. You shouldn't be ashamed of your body - if you are, then work at changing it. She looked at me nervously. "D-di-did Orimura-kun see this...?"
"Hn? Well, yes - he picked it for me." At the time, I probably shouldn't have worded it like that... Yamada-kun, when excited, can be very very noisy.
"HE WHAT!?!?"
u know how i can up with the serum that allow dudes to pilot an IS unit, well i also can up with another great idea:
ya know, how teenage boys usually have a lot of dirty thoughts, well i figure if in the IS universe there's a pill that will make any teenage boy not have have dirty thoughts (without making them gay)
for 24 hrs, so that ichika can be a way better IS pilot, & also avoid getting beat up by his harem, for having dirty thoughts
Well folks, I did recall featuring a theoretical update of the Leopard 2 MBTs used by DART, mounting 2 additional remote weapon stations at the side of the turrets. These often carried gyrojet cannons, which are something like automatic belt-fed 12mm caliber RPG launchers, that have proven in the 2nd Great War to take down 2nd generation IS. The sponson thing is a nod to how the latest MBT updates all seem to want to resurrect that old WW1 gun system. The rest of the tank was a Leopard 2 with updated electronics to reflect the era. I was being conservative with its design because of DART's overall flavor of "oldtype designs, newtype interiors."
I did wonder however if the Schwarzhase really used the Leopard 2 in their main force, as while venerable, the Leopard 2 just did not fit the requirements of 1 tank hull, many variants. I initially dreamed up a Leopard 3 based on the curves of the Schwarz IS, and tacked on as much Advanced Warfare I could think of, on a stealth tank angular chassis. The main armanent can be varied at construction, resulting in GW Leopard artillery, WT Leopard IS-Destroyers, and Spahpanzer Leopard recon vehicle lines, each type with even more subvariants but everyone sharing parts. This also necessitated a rear hatch design seen in the Merkava.
I decided not to use it in the end because it looked too much like an IS to be taken seriously. Since I wasn't actively working on the Black Rabbit stories actively, that could wait.
But, guess what?
"Meister's IS designs are inspired by tanks and continue to do so. Meanwhile, he also has tanks in his stories. And other elements of Advanced Warfare. Sometimes, those tanks have IS-inspired designs. But shockingly, real life did it first."
And the rest are just fine details in flux. I usually have the entire setting dreamed out before I start work on the foreground, which is a really bad habit of mine..........
Writing this new fic is hell. I'm used to writing dark, more espioage/dark stuff or the occassional \screwball comedy, but this is going to take some learning of new skills.
"You don't have a reason." The masked pilot of the blue IS spoke in the false-robotic voice she had come to recognize. "You lack drive."
"Who are you?"
The metalshod boot lashed out, kicking Firemoth away.
"Like a parrot. Is that all you can say?" The robotic voice was mocking. ""You think yourself special. You're not. You're like putty. Unformed. Unshaped. Uninteresting. Without effort, a mass of clay is just a useless mass of clay. "
The sound of energy crackling, a particle beam weapon charging up like electronic cackling laughter.
"I'm going to teach you a lesson, my friend. A superior IS has limits when partnered with an inferior pilot."
You know, I have the urge to make a fic by the title "[insert Author]'s Armory" whereby the canon cast visits the author's armory, where the author then introduces them to every machine (IS and/or non-IS) they've made for their respective stories.
I just hope the stupid Critics United would not ruin it. Do you guys know them?- Don't we all.
I don't always like everyone else's fics, and a lot of people don't like my fics. I don't mind that and I don't think too many people mind either. What I do mind is being criticized by guys who DON'T write fanfiction criticizing mine or other peoples stuff when they themselves don't even bother.
I may not like bash-it-to-death critique, but if it's given by someone who also writes fanfiction I can still accept that. At least you're being criticized by your peers in this case.
The trouble is a lot of internet criticism in general is by anonymous people--eg people who won't let you review their own work, or else they themselves have no work to speak of. People who go "Oh my fanmade character is great, your fic sucks" but they themselves have NEVER written anything resembling a story or even an intelligent vignette. It's basically like how fans in the bleachers criticize the players on the playing field when the fans themselves don't even play the game.
We all here criticize Izuru's writing and the tv series story pacing. But we then take those ideas and MAKE SOMETHING of them. Soimetimes it's funny. Other time's its dead serious. But we're all doing something CREATIVE, not just bashing the original author. And we work at it. We may not be putting out award-winning material but at least we're doing something other than sitting like slime on the bleachers laughing at people who have the guts to go up to bat.
So if you're a fanfiction writer and criticize my work, I'll criticize yoru work too. And it's all okay because those would be valid opinions. Consider the valid opinions (and ignore the ones that don't matter, are wrong, or are just different from what you want to achieve)
An INVALID opinion is when someone who doesn't write, doesn't create, doesn't do anything goes and tears your fic (or anything you do, doujinshi, fanart,. model kit making etc) then tries to tell you how to run your hobby. We already have people every single day telling us how to run our lives because they can't be bothered to fix theirs. Why should you listen to them in your hobby time?
What wavehawk said.
Also, I don't really see any reason to bash the armory fic. While yes, it maybe a self-insert in a sense but it's nothing more than a glorified museum tour (and you're the curator). Showing off various kinds of machines we've been introducing in our fics. Before someone questions why would the cast go on such a trip, I would ask "Why not?"
's Armory" whereby the canon cast visits the author's armory, where the author then introduces them to every machine (IS and/or non-IS) they've made for their respective stories. - (Looks at <Ren>'s armory of kitchen knives, forks, and other types of knives
Erm, I might have to pass on that. Most of <Ren>'s armory is pretty mundane, and might be mistaken by the NSA (you know they're reading this post) as an actual description of...what...knives...I...actually...have...at...ho me. No, actually I don't. (SUSPICIOUS DENIAL)
EDIT: Dammit, why couldn't this bit of news come sooner, BEFORE I finished <Ren>'s story arc? This woudl have been awesome to insert into my fic! :(
Infinite Stratos System
EC-X “Zenith”
Unit Type: Prototype Infinite Stratos Drone
Power Generator: Nyxium IS Core
Propulsion System: Gravity-Propellant Hybrid System
Armor: Hybrid IS Composite Armor
Operator: Erebus Corps
-------------------------------------------------
Technology & Combat Characteristics
-------------------------------------------------
The Erebus Corps’ first Infinite Stratos unit. With the acquisition of the Nyxium IS Core from the remains of the Nyxus Rafale IS that were destroyed, the Erebus Corps fuses the design of every known IS schematics it has to develop it’s own IS.
As the Nyxium IS Core already has an embedded AI, there is no need for a human pilot. Having an AI pilot akin to the Silverio Gospel also grants complete utilization of the Zenith’s systems - primarily the eighteen remote weapons - called Slaves, located all over its main body that are capable of ranged and melee attacks.
The Zenith’s power systems is similar to the Silverio Gospel’s - a network of capacitors infused into the Zenith’s armor itself. This allows the Zenith to store more power compared to an average IS without the need for additional capacitors. This power system is based on the Powered Armor System utilize by the EC-01 Astra drones.
Nyxium augmentation from the infected IS Core also grants the Zenith far superior power output. To utilize this feature, the Zenith is also equipped with the powerful X-4 - a highly experimental “gravity gun” based off the Shenlong’s “Ryuho” Impact Cannons.
The Zenith also mounts another experimental hybrid weapon called the Strike Shield. A remote weapon in nature, it also serves as a CQC set. Concealed within it is the Strike Blade - a physical sword that can also deploy a distortion field for greater power.
Finally, the Zenith can also deploy a gravity distortion field, known as the D-Field - a feature that can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The Zenith serves as a testament to the Erebus Corps’ capability to maximise the potential of an IS Core.
----------------
Armaments
----------------
X-4 Gravity Application Weapon
= Zenith’s primary weapon. It is a Nyxium-infused “graviton rifle” that is capable of firing a beam of warped space filled with high-energy distortions (akin to a black hole). Unlike most beam weapons that are thermal-based, the X-4 utilizes the D-Field to pulverize targets.
= The distortion effect also has a side effect of disrupting the IS’ anti-gravity systems.
Slaves
= Remote-guided weapons mounted on the Zenith. The unit has a total of 18 Slaves located all over it. Each Slave carries a beam gun and bladed edges, allowing them to be used for both long and short-ranged attacks.
= Multiple Slaves can bind a target by encircling it then encase in a spherical AIC Field, a feature based off the Schwarzer Regen’s unique ability.
Strike Shield
= A huge aerodynamic shield with built-in boosters. Primarily used for defense, it can also be used offensively as a remote-guided ram. The Strike Shield can also deploy a D-Field to increase its impact damage and defense power against all forms of attacks.
= The Strike Shield can be mounted on the back of the Zenith, acting as a supplementary booster unit to increase its speed.
Strike Blade
= A physical sword stored within the Strike Shield. The Strike Blade can encase itself with D-Field to increase its striking power and defense against all forms of attack. The application of D-Field also allows the Strike Blade to penetrate IS barriers.
----------------------------------------
Special Equipment & Features
----------------------------------------
D-Field
= A feature unique to the Zenith. The D-Field, or Distortion Field, is an energy barrier filled with high-energy gravitational distortions. The D-Field pulverizes anything it comes into contact with. This makes the D-Field an ideal feature to tackle high-caliber attacks from IS-class weaponry, both ballistic and energy forms alike.
=In mid-flight, the D-Field eliminates air resistance allowing the Zenith to achieve hypersonic speeds without damaging its frame.
=The D-Field can be said to be the Erebus Corps’ answer to the APP Field utilized by the Experimental Arms Minerva Odysseus.
Disagree, I want a BALANCED MC, Absolute Duo and Seirei Tsukai no Blade dance are ok. Unlimited Fafnir is really hard to judge....I feel like it's IS done right in a different setting.
When the protagonist is COMPLETELY overpowered, it's boring. I am pointing at you Mahouka.
There's NOTHING wrong with a clueless main protagonist in a midst of a crowd of girls infected with the Y-virus.
More IS pilots? I'll rather have at least 2 male pilots only, not more than that. Personally, I would write a IS fanfic that focuses on a male student who was enrolled to engineering course. Not IS pilot course.
Would that be a good idea then? Add Engineering course in ISA?
And no, Ichika's not useless - not if we put away his denseness. Ichika could be quite sensitive to others' feeling, as demonstrated with Chifuyu. His lack of understanding on the girls' crushes could be either that he has no definition of "love" (and could we still call those by that name?), or, he has long accepted that he's a burden and should not tie anyone back.
Warfare? It's Izuru mistake. And remember, he could keeps up with Tatenashi.
Have you ever thought about this: Everyone, even Ichika has appeared on the cover of a magazine before. But Charlotte, she simply can't. Dunois Coporation didn't announced that the chairman's "son" had enrolled in the academy, so it seems. And even if the truth is revealed, the girl's still a bastard child. It'll be a PR nightmare if Charlotte suddenly becomes famous overnight.
In short, she and Laura are the ones most suited to stay in the dark.
Unfortunate coincidence no doubt. I'd expect a line referring to this.
My difficulty with working on Stark was that she originally in the first draft of SHOOTiNG STAR was a cool, younger version of her implied female parent, Pepper. With you adopting the snark for her, I moved the cool moe elements to Agnes. However, I am still pretty weak and making killer lines for Ange, so she ends up in the background a lot.
Why are you repeating yourself, we heard this many times.
Because he was waiting for someone like you to take him seriously.
I have this sinking feeling that if you put IS up next to something like Fate Stay Night, then make people guess which one started as porn, they would immediately pick IS.
Ha. AHA. I should have know there was a pre-requisite condition for the red Wing's design. :3- "Throw a little hot rod red in there."
My difficulty with working on Stark was that she originally in the first draft of SHOOTiNG STAR was a cool, younger version of her implied female parent, Pepper. With you adopting the snark for her, I moved the cool moe elements to Agnes. However, I am still pretty weak and making killer lines for Ange, so she ends up in the background a lot.- you...might nto like this, Meister. since the story I'm working on might turn out a bit differently. Or else I might end up renaming Ange later on if it gets too narky. There's a LOT of things happening with what I'm writing, and it's more in line with what I think should be...let's just say there's a little bit of Decomposite Character (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DecompositeCharacter) going on between Ange and a few of the other main characters
Oh, and I have an OP theme for the Firemoth limited series because I'm psychotic that way:
https://youtu.be/x_L-5jMyXtc
Short answer, I'll write the story. Continue writing your fic, but I'll finish up mine and read yours. As mentioned I might even change Ange's name later on (as well as the Is ) if it's not to your taste. I'm hoping to get something out in the coming week.
I have this sinking feeling that if you put IS up next to something like Fate Stay Night, then make people guess which one started as porn, they would immediately pick IS.- I actually had a conversation with someone else about this earlier--they asked why I write fics for stuff like IS and not 'good' stuff like Fate/Tsukihime/KaranoKyoukai. My answer is that I'm completely happy and satisfied with what Kinoko Nasu writes, there's nothing a fanfic would 'fix' IMHO. It's more of a statement on how much better a writer/storyteller Kinoko Nasu is compared to Izuru. He tends to think and plot things out better.
On your original statement, I guess it's because:
Most people expect harem-centric anime to be based on a renai or visual novel games. Most of them are, but not always. In fact, some (Da Capo 2 and Yoakemae Cabbage Love come to mind) tried NOT to be a harem anime, with mixed results.
The writing for most harem anime is very lowbrow in some cases (pantyshot, skirtdrop, catchemintheshower, etc.). Type-Moon stuff tend to be on the higher-quality end in terms of storytelling.
The Fate universe is also pretty in-depth (something that not every animated adaptation seems to capture well), and some thigns that seem to be left hanging are acutally plot points. Izuru...still hasn't bothered to explain the tech in SI very well. It's a side-effect of having a harem series.
- "Throw a little hot rod red in there."Well, the Wing verKa prototype had some red along with the blue. Honoo was just pure red-gold. LOL :p
BUT, I suddenly find a lot of things make sense.
The "Old" Testament IS from the Testament Project had angel wings, the whole works, and a twin-linked 3-round nuclear cannon. Project had no precision, was almost got compromised, then the last working prototype was destroyed (taken to hiding by Browning), so 2 successor projects were started by the US.
The "New" Testament project gave rise to a similar craft that was more akin to the Wing Vandam design, more fighter jet than angel, but still packing a toned down tactical nuclear cannon. While a massproduction model exists for use by the US Marines and USAF, the New Testament had a 3G update being tested at the same time as its sister project, the Gospel series. This SHIELD-sponsored design was wholly compromised by Phantom Task and dismantled by the SHOOTiNG ST@Rs after it was discovered. This compromise killed any prospect of the Testament being updated and the US focused its efforts on the 2nd series.
This was the Gospel series. Intended to be shared with Israel, the Gospel was inspired by the Testament and focused on enhancing nuclear survivability and refining the overgunned Old Testament. The Gospel was a lot more angelic than the New Testament in design. But because it was licensed from Stark Industries, development of the Gospel series was slow compared to the New Testament which was due to many many factors. The Silver Gospel incident further dampened progress and indeed the entire project was on the verge of being cancelled. The realization that SHIELD-backed Testament was just a puppet of Phantom Task, and that the Silver Gospel incident ironically proved the durability and firepower of the IS design in combat, meaning a wholesome switch to the G2 variant of the Gospel series in subsequent seasons of SHOOTiNG ST@R and The Infinite Stratos. Natasha "Warmachine" Fairs retains pilot candidacy of the 3G "Silver Gospel" prototype.
Meanwhile, another variant of the Gospel series exists. This one is a highly Equalized renovation assembled by none other than Ange Stark herself, in an attempt to marry the fledgling Arc Reactor first proposed by her father Howard Stark with the IS Core created by Shinonono Tabane. The first incarnation was simply a "Mark II", and it wore the colors of red-blue-white because it had both elements of the Old Testament and the red-gold armor of Howard's signature Ironman exosuit. Visually, its a Wing Ver Ka gundam girl. :p It was only when tabloids dubbed Ange and her Gospel Mk II the "Iron Maiden", even when the spaceframe had very little iron in it and that she was not at all religious, that all subsequent variants were called Iron Maiden. Ange's idol debut was also underscored by her admission that she was the Iron Maiden.
- you...might nto like this, Meister. since the story I'm working on might turn out a bit differently. Or else I might end up renaming Ange later on if it gets too narky. You misunderstand wave-ossan. You are painting a really really really perfect picture and already I'm being flooded with how everything fits together.
As you know, the cool moe elements have already been assigned to another idol. Agnes and Monique Esquivel are the twins moe archetype but have been been retconned into another generation of idols (in fact normaltype idols have left SHOOTiNG ST@R and are placed in that seperate unit and no longer appear in the story) and are NOT in any way related to Angelina Stark.
My character synopsis of Angelina Stark now reads:
"Angelina Stark, or Ange as she prefers to shorten her name to, is in her own way, the snarky little girl of the infamous Iron Man. She is armed with the Gospel-type G2 unit Iron Maiden, and often tests and upgrades her IS with hand-crafted Equalizers. With the advances in her own story and come season 2 of SHOOTiNG ST@Rs, Ange gets lots of IS cores to play with as the US military dismantles all Testament units and rebuilds them as Gospels. This leads to an EXPLOSION of Iron Maiden mark numbers, like high pressure variants, extra armored variants, improved strength variants and even Armor Stratos addons."
And now, including perhaps, the Gospel-type MPIS Custom "Iron Maiden Mk XLII Firemoth", which, if I am guessing correctly, pretty much is the Wing Zero Honoo Gundam Girl. :uhoh:
Also, did I ever mention how I love migrating the Iron Maiden nomenclature to mark numbers? I can just keep on adding armor variants as more Build Fighters appear!!
Character-wise she will be whoever you want her to be, though in my head it is still a high school sophomore, female, Tony Stark. :p
At the same time, I've placed Natasha in my story as Warmachine because I had to make her stand out amongst the revised cast of Infinite Stratos in the Meisterverse. :uhoh:
Also, picking Nano's Kaleidoscope as the theme for this story arc is no accident. Both in terms of the beat and the lyrics.
A blinding light coming my way, enough to make my eyes dazzle
The scenery changes every time I close my eyes
A bewildered heart, it’s time to break open doors
There’s a new horizon and it’s waiting ahead
Inside a globe of glass it began to rain with infinite mirages.
If only I could take a piece in these hands and release them into the sky.
Like a KALEIDOSCOPE I turned it in my dreams
I’ll go and find my new self. A strength to light the way.
The day go and these lying thoughts are written in the sand
As time grows old I’m swallowed by a wave of reality
I hold this unchanging wish to my chest. Point to tomorrow and run
A brand new sky, pouring out and shining like a limitless image
I reflect on every happiness and sorrow
Like a rising hope piling up within time
I’m going to catch a new future, there will always be a way.
The past moves like the clouds; even our memories fade away
I know I won’t forget the smiles and tears I’ll run away to my eternity
Another light across the horizon
Glowing like an endless mirage
So, looking at this song... "post Iron Man III" Ange Stark? I see a Cool-type Visual-focus character with a red-gold Iron Maiden that now has a name that joins up later in the SHOOTiNG ST@R series. HOW IS THAT ANY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I'M DOING?! :heh:
Maybe she's less snarky, but without killer lines, she stops being Ange Stark IMO. Unless that is exactly what you are aiming for, an innocent and pure Nadeshiko. :uhoh:
Besides, I already mentioned several times, my work is pretty much AU to everything else because I've redone canon and sometimes adapted the characters I am loaning from other authors. What you do with your work shouldn't affect me much, but I will strive to change as little as possible.
EDIT: With this update, I might even be able to move Ange Stark with Celeste as a vocal/instrumentalist combi like angela!!
Surprise me in time. Meanwhile, I continue to swim in dev hell... :(- First draft. I ended up resuscitating some previous stuff I wrote and re-editing it. But this should...give you some ideas. Enjoy.
The dark, pre-dawn air felt cool and crisp, autumn darkness touched by the coming winter breeze. Cutting, like ice in every breath. Moonlight was but a distant memory and there were but a few moments remaining before the sun's rebirth. Indigo blue strokes echoed across the vast palette of the sky, hinting at clear skies ahead.
The fading night was cut open by the slash of a fiery red light.
A bright red arc traced its course rapidly as it shot across the sky. It was soon joined by two other lights in differing shades of blue. Colors twisted and turned, dancing an duel across the sky. Twirling like leaves then dashing upward like fireflies. Unseen by the still-sleeping populace below. The blue and red lights crossed paths in silent, almost ethereal grace.
The red light screamed.
It fell to earth, as if struck down by an unseen hand. It plummeted like a leaf, twirling madly to the ground as the two flat blue lights stood over it in the sky. The blue lights waited dispassionately until the red one disappeared. Slowly, the blue ones floated down, searching for the fallen one in their gait.
"You skipped school today."
There was more than a fatherly tone of disappointment in the butler's voice as he stood patiently at the entrance of the small workshop. Amid the clutter and noises of power tools, he kept a proper bearing as befitting those of his profession. Edmund kept a stone face but inside his mind was worried sick. He knew not what a normal 14-year old girl's life would be, but it was most certainly not like this. The slender teenager was clothed only in her underwear and a greasy work shirt as she finally emerged from underneath the mass of plates and wiring.
"I have a perfect GPA for all my subjects, Eddy." The teenage girl just shrugged, completely unaware of her looks as she reached over to a computer workstation. Typing through a few commands, she looked them over without sparing a glance back at her butler. "It's not like I can learn anything from those old maids in class."
"Attendance has nothing to do with your grade point average, young miss." Edmund rolled his eyes. "When a school acknowledges that they have an Angelina Maria Stark as one of their students, one is expected to actually ATTEND said school."
"Not my full name, Eddy. Just Ange is fine--where did I put that sonic screwdriver?"
"Young Miss." Despite himself, Edmund calmly handed her the tool she was searching for. "The school can very well fail you simply for missing attendance."
"I'll just switch schools."
Edmund shook his head. "With your genius and inheritance, I would have thought you had a better goal in life than staying home tinkering with...things."
"I HAVE a better goal in life. I'm building the best Infinite Stratos exoskeleton in existence AND piloting it." Ange frowned, trying to unlock that little micro-bolt from the odd angle she was leaning into. "Silverio Gospel, what a joke. I can build a better machine in a cave with just a box of scraps."
"Please, young miss." Edmund looked away bashfully. The girl was at the age wherein she started developing womanly traits. "Put something on. It isn't proper for a girl your age to be half-naked."
"I'm not in public. It's not as if anyone other than you is going to be peeking at me."
"It is a matter of principle, young miss." Edmund's old-fashioned upbringing could not understand why she seemed to have no shame whenever working on her projects. Or be bothered to sleep in a bed, as she spent most of her time in the workshop. By comparison Ange's bedroom and closet were spotless, used only to store her clothes and little else. "I most certainly hope you would not be this lax around the opposite gender when you interact with them."
"Good point, Eddy." A clatter as she threw a metallic tool over her shoulder. "I should just build myself a boyfriend. Got plenty of spare parts lying around."
"It is Edmund, young miss. Not Ed. Not Edd. And certainly not Eddy." The butler visibly chafed, shaking his head. Although he went through every effort to educate his young charge, it was a case of nature versus nurture. Nature was winning. "I would say a few choice words about your father, but unfortunately you will simply ignore what I am instructing and go about your business."
Too late, Ange was already back under the IS chassis. "Say what, Eddy?"
"Dinner will be served at 6 o'clock today, please make sure you have washed and bathed yourself properly before then." Edmund said in his most formal tone. "I will leave your favorite bib and nursing bottle within easy reach, as usual."
"Yep, got it." Ange replied, not recognizing the sarcasm. "Anything else?"
"Miss Cunningham is here."
That made Ange stop. "Shay's here? Well why didn't you let her in?"
Edmund sighed, coughed and politely sidestepped to reveal a girl Ange's age behind him. There was a sudden silence, then the butler made a perfect about-face to walk away.
"You really should give Edmund a break."
"Aww, he loves me." Ange did not get up from her pile of equipment. "Eddy's been around since dad was single. He's used to this sort of thing."
"You dad's a guy. Edmund's NOT used to 'this sort of thing' from a girl." Shay Cunningham replied, the image of forced calm as she approached her friend. "You skipped school again."
"Well, I would go to class if they actually had SOMETHING to teach me that I didn't already know." Stark replied without the hint of surprise as she smiled back at the girl. Cunningham was probably Stark's only real friend in school, and barely able to handle her eccentricities. "Seriously, Shay. Professor Poppinsmock hasn't got the first clue about nanoskin gel theory."
"It's Professor Pollock." As the class representative, Cunningham was normally more taciturn towards her classmates. As well as the only one who came close to Ange's level of intellect. However, Stark always had a way of getting her goat in the end. "Cut her some slack. The Professor's theories on exoskeletal frames were cutting-edge before the IS was invented."
"Whatever." Ange made a show of shrugging and stood up, brushed her messy hands off her tank top. "I don't like Poppinsmock."
"She was pretty annoyed that you didn't turn up in class today."
Stark stopped and gave an exaggerated look of surprise. "My god. Poppinsmock actually misses me."
"Ange, can you tone down the smartassery a smidge?" Shay let out a breath as heavy as she corld. "It's not easy having a friend who's a smartass genius tomboy with an electra complex."
"You just said 'smartass' twice."
"Ange!" Cunningham was about to let out a retort, then thought better of it. "Why do I even bother?"
"Change of subject. Genius to genius." Stark spun around, her trademark smirk promising further mischief. She whirled the computer monitor over, a holographic digital display smudged with fingerprints. "I think I've cracked the secret behind the 4th-generation IS Fold-Out armor. Wanna see?"
"Oh lord. Not this again." Cunningham remarked flatly. "Normal girls talk about boys, fashions and shoes. And possibly the latest episode of Glee. You and me? We talk about IS technology. Dear god, we sound more like boys than boys do."
"Shay? Just a little interest would be good?"
"Ange, you're smart. You're brilliant." Cunningham crossed her arms. Trying to bring her friend down to reality was always a struggle. "But even you can't build a 4th-gen IS in your back yard."
"Oh, ye of little faith."
"Every world government and corporation has tried and failed." Shay would not budge. "Only two 4th-gens exist, and nobody's been able to replicate either of them. I can't see you faring any better."
Ange had to agree with her friend's logic. Most of the world had only started research and development into 3rd-generation Infinite Stratos exoskeletons. 4th-generation IS in the world were rare. In fact, Shay was correct: only two existed. Neither of them were anyhere near Rhode Island. But we'll see who laughs last. "So, why the drop-in? Someone throwing a party?"
"Actually, Miss Pollock has a test on cybernetics and control theory tomorrow." Cunningham raised her hand before Stark could scoff. "A test on all of the things you weren't at school to take notes on. For the last two weeks."
"I'll ace it." Stark nodded with a smile. "Can I borrow your lecture notes, though?"
Shay wordlessly handed over her notebook. "You're lucky I didn't tell Ms. Hannigan about how you hacked those Rafale Revives."
"No lasting damage." Ange took the notes with a smile. "I just wanted to see what kind of protocols Dunois had to protect their systems from a hack. The answer is: none. Ah, the French."
Shay rolled her eyes. "What criminal acts will you think of next?"
"Now that you mention it, there's this hair removal liquid that..."
"ANGE. NO."
<--------------->
The stench of processed sewage continued to hang in the chilling autumn air over East Providence.
The soldier quietly shivered through his uniform. He tried not to show it, feeling the cold nip of autumn and thankful the mud he was treading through did not seep through his boots. The sewage plant sat just nearby, with its vacant metallic tinkling of machinery and subtle but noticable smell.
Sergeant Horace Canfield didn't appreciate the cold, but he could at least live with it. But after years of duty between Iraq and Kuwait, his body was no longer acclimated to cold weather. It was the smell that got to him.
He tried to keep his mind off both the cold and stink, trying to imprint the view that he saw from the shore. Pomham Rocks and its iconic old lighthouse could be seen from the wooded shores, where the ocean flowed through Narragansett Bay the into the Providence River. From here, Rhode Island seemed worthy of its nickname, The Ocean State. There were none of the sounds expected of a beach or the sea. The smell of salt water was fleeting here, and there were no seagulls cries nor rolling tide. The bayside had a low-key coiling of waves but it made little noise. Or else both noise and scents were dampened by the nearby sound and stench. A picture-perfect image ruined by the sewage and noise.
The only thing making this worth his while was the woman he was assigned to.
"She landed somewhere around here." The blonde woman stood from her kneeling position, and turned to him. Captain Natasha Fairs looked more like a glamour model than an Air Force Infinite Stratos pilot, and Canfield wondered if she posed like this solely for his benefit. The all-american girl, guaranteed to take and break your heart with a wink. "Maybe in the water, maybe a controlled landing."
"Ma'am." Canfield nodded glumly. The Sergeant was Army; specifically Air Assault Infantry. The most he knew about airplanes was riding in them and jumping out of them. He was no pilot, and air crash investigation was not his field of expertise. Canfield and could not pretend to understand Captain Fairs' assumption. Maybe it was something only pilots of the Infinite Stratos (IS) exoskeleton knew. Or maybe it was just women's intuition--Canfield swore that his mother had the same eerie presience whenever he snuck highschool girlfriends home. He kept the thought to himself.
He did chafe inwardly at being commandeered by an Air Force officer. Due to the IS, women now made up the bulk of the heavy hitting forces from air combat to armor, but the bulk of the military still consisted of men in the infantry. And even with the shift in gender balance, men still fell for gorgeous women. Hard. Unsurprisingly, Canfield's all-male squad followed orders without question. Had Fairs not been a superior officer, the men would have fallen all over themselves getting her phone number.
But why use an Army Air Assault unit?
Canfield's men were from the 506th Infantry Regiment, a unit of the legendary 101st Air Assault division. They believed themselves elite, inheritors of a legacy. But they were still regular troops, not special forces or intelligence officers. Plus, the 101st was stationed in Kentucky. Canfield's squad flew in via a two hour flight by helicopter. It would have made more sense to use Air Force Combat Controllers, from Fairs' own service. Rhode Island's National Guard has an Air Force equivalent, and Special Operations units were also stationed there. Maybe because we're more friendly looking than a bunch of men in black?
Canfield headed an eight-man squad, as per a normal infantry unit. They were all in the requisite BDUs but save for the Sergeant, none of them were armed. And Canfield's only weapon was his 9mm service pistol, hardly a threat to an IS. The army squad had an invisible cordon around the area, mainly to keep the curious out. There was no trouble, as the residents avoided the sewage plant easily. The workers were less happy, but did not cause trouble.
The whole setup bothered him.
"Sgt. Canfield?"
"Uhm, local police didn't report anything." Canfield began, realizing his mind had drifted. "Probably hit water further out in the river, maybe sunk." The sergeant shrugged, realizigin he was trying to impress her. "Or maybe nobody cares."
Fairs tried not to laugh. The wind started to howl, and she brushed her blonde locks away from her face. "Sarge, this is Rhode Island, not New York City."
"No ma'am, it isn't," The Sergeant then stopped as an odd fact leapt into his head. "I am Providence."
"Excuse me?"
"I just realized. Swan Point Cemetery is just on the other side of river from here. Where H. P. Lovecraft was buried. Ever heard of him?" Canfield took Fairs' raised eyebrow look as a no. "20th Century horror writer. 'I am Providence' is scribed on his grave."
"Not a horror fan," Natasha smirked, but seemed to take the fact seriously a moment before donning her aviator sunglasses once again. She looked out at the river, but seemed doubtful that anything would turn up. "Sergeant. I think we'll need some more technical assistance."
"Captain?" Canfield couldn't help asking. "Can you at least tell us more about that IS that crashed?"
Natasha blinked a moment, then regained her composure with a smile. "Nope." She was thankful that the aviator's glasses hid the doubt in her eyes. "I never said it was an IS."
Actually that gives me no ideas, mostly because you've made it so that Ange doesn't appear until around chapter 14-15 or so, which is after the official release of Akatsuki. Instead of cameoing throughout the story until said time. :p
Although, I could retcon things by saying that Ange knew about Akatsuki way ahead of everyone else because she found the plans for the entire Twin Birds project, ie, Akatsuki and Byakuya. Because, like the French, the Japanese don't have much in terms of armor. :p
The rest of us here are concerned with actually writing stories. You? You're just taking a dump on us by saying "Oh my idea is original and smart I want male Is pilots" and then you get mad when we don't agree and spam the thread.
You post the same stupid thing in these threads at least once a day about having more males in IS academy but when someone asks if you're writing a fic you plain out ignore them because you don't really plan to write a fanfic. You're just here to waste our time. If you want to waste time by being stupid, go play CoD. Don't bother us with your incessant whining about how we never take you seriously because WE CAN'T. We cannot take you seriously. At all. You're a parrot. A broken record. You don't even change your tone, it's always "I want more men in IS academy" but you can't even be bothered to actually write the fic.
The way you post, I don't think you've even watched the IS anime much less read the LNs. You're not interested in IS at all. You just want to spend the rest of your life here on these threads posting about how cool your idea of more men in powered armor is. There's already a show that does that, Saint Seiya. Go watch that. Stop bothering us with unrelated posts and throwing your little baby tantrums whenever we question you about it.
Note: This is only the first batch of my upcoming Q&A. Mostly irrelevant, but really important for my work.
Feeding: So, we have these options - Which would be the most feasible way?
- Conventional system, with a near-infinite amount of mags in the storage: Easy to make, easy to fix, easy to learn. However, with the blazing speed of burning through ammunition, it'd not be wise to reload it during battle. Unless the mag is directly linked to the 4th Dimensional storage. Simply put, one that never run dry.
- The round simply reappear on the barrel (*): The most revolutionary one: Removing the cumbersome self-loading mechanism (if using with caseless ammunition). However, the weapons can't be exchanged between units during combat. Plus the price of producing, the complexity of taking down and cleaning (not a problem if you're fighting in Mondo Grosso, or simply a day at the range).
-> Actions: How to handle the pressure? How to reduce the recoil? What to do to avoid overheat? How to fire, striker or hammer? Unless you're talking about electricity-starter.
- Ammunition: Of course, the caliber comes to mind. 7.62 Nato, .388 Lapua Magnum and 12.7x108mm (or the equivalent in caseless) would be commonly-seen. However, I'm more interesting in pistol or submachine gun: .50 AE, everyone? Or, maybe the 5.56 Nato.
(Actually, with the (*) system, something of a revolver or Derringer would be the most easiest: Just replace the cylinder!)
The question is: With the same size, does a heavy bullet could do as much damage as a fast bullet?
And I won't talk about hollow point. The matter here is to break the enemy's shield, so armor-piercing FMJ would be the logical choice. Or, airbursting rounds, if they're big enough.
- Accessory: There is no point to give them Picatinny rail an Surefire flash light or laser. At best, they would just need optical sight. Iron sight... Nope!
- Speed: Three-round burst? Nope. Even with the .388 Lapua, it's possible to stay on the target (remember, Hyper Sensor, PIC, and I.S is big) in full auto. Sniper rifles like the Starlight series? With range of engagement is an area of 10 kmsqr , they would have thought about beam or at least railgun. And no bolt-action.
However, like I said above, the ratio of rounds per minute on IS is very high. So, that brought us to the last point:
- Classification: Pistol and submachine gun would be merged into one class - Give one full-auto AR Pistol to an IS, it would be the same as a MP7 (Of course, we know that those AR Pistol are called "pistol" simply because of ATF's regulation). The same thing could be said for Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle. Portable Launcher and sniper rifle'd be the same.
So, how have you ACTED on those ideas?
And pardon me if I am wrong, you tried to suggest a small idea many pages ago and then I shot it down because it REEKED of Gary Stuness. You should have taken the criticism and use it to IMPROVE your idea. Or, maybe the 5.56 Nato.- Anything IS-related should at least be geared for small vehicles, so 12.7 (aka .50cal BMG) would be IS rifle sized (the standard rifle caliber for Rafales), and "SMG" rounds would be 7.62mm. AN IS shotgun would probably be firing something more like Grapeshot as opposed to a real life shotgun gauge round.
It's tough to say this is certain because the only IS featured regularly that use conventional firearms are the Rafales in general and Charl's Rafale Revive II specifically. Every other major IS shown either uses exotic weapons (Beam rifles, air pressure cannons, electromagnetic railguns). If only Izuru did a bit more world-building with the older 2nd-gen IS (3rd-gen Is and later started using the exotic weaponry)
Faith Morrison is a young woman working dead end job after dead end job. Always migrating from one minimum wage offer to another less due to her work ethic and capability as opposed to spiteful reviews from her manager and highschool diploma credentials. She was bullied into accompanying a co-worker to an IS pilot testing conscription by the government. It was mostly to make her co-worker look good because they were confident Faith would fail miserably. It came as a shock that she was chosen to be the new test pilot for the new generation Arachne Mk.II. This due to her surprising synchronization and aptitude in using the old model Arachne and its multi-arm system to an adept degree despite being a beginner. So she was drafted in as a test pilot. However, due to the Gospel Incident, the United States had gained the world's ire and distrust with the secret joint development of the frame with Israel. America had no choice but to send Arachne Mk.II to ISA for study and the only way to do that was to send in their test pilot as well. And that is how 21 year old Faith Morrison became a highschool freshman in Japan.
As her name implies, Faith Morrison is Brave Morrison's younger sister. She hasn't been in touch with her family for years. After her brother moved out to join the army, Faith had finished her highschool schooling and tried for college. When her SATs came back with abyssmal scores, advising her to try again, she gave up and decided to join the workforce as is. She moves out of her parents' house fearing herself to be a burden to them, and lived alone in a run down apartment she could barely afford.
Faith's personality of meekness is not because of natural upbringing. Rather it's because of childhood trauma. Faith had been bullied since childhood because of her height. At first she didn't differ much from the children, always standing at the last spot in line, being a few inches taller. However when highschool came about she was standing at 192cm and by the end of it at 203cm, towering over everyone else, even the male teachers. In fact, her bullying was so severe that the reason she failed her SATs and had a below average showing in school was because of her shredded self-esteem. She never believes she can do anything worthwhile because that's what had been repeated to her, her whole life. She did not want to burden her parents with a problem that was hers alone so she never told them about it. One would think that such length of time of being belittled and scorned would end up with her committing suicide or running away even though things done to her weren't so serious. That's because there was always one person who was there for her, fought away her bullies and eased her fears at all times. That was her big brother, Brave. She adored him for it and he became her anchor in life. When he disappeared after a few years in the army, Faith had been understandably devastated.
Does this seem like a proper shower scene?
After keeping their IS and some time left before dinner, the girls head for the showers. Kirin takes the first cubicle, followed by Tsurugi, Rose, Eli and finally Naev. Having endured hours of supervised training, Tsurugi could not have been any more thankful than to finally be able to refresh herself with a good shower.
(Aaaah~ Thank goodness for showers...)
“All this training makes me wish summer would come soon!” Eli suddenly shatters the ambience, her short brown hair partially-covered with shampoo foam.
“Oh right, the outing.” Says Naev, briefly reminded of the Academy’s planned summer trip. “Rose, where are we going again?”
“Some beach resort or so I heard.” Rose did not bat an eye to her classmates. Her long blonde hair, moist with shampoo foams, stretches down her back like a curtain. “Murakumo-sensei said we’ll be there for a few days.”
“Perfect!” Eli rejoices with a fist pump, splashing water into the adjacent cubicles.
“You’re really looking forward to it aren’t you, Eli?”
“Of course! Aren’t you as well, Kirin?”
“Well, I rarely get to go to the beaches so—”
“Great! I’ll be sure to show you around then!”
“S-Sure, I guess...”
Meanwhile, Kirin notices that Tsurugi’s gleefully smiling away, enjoying the cheery atmosphere amongst her friends. Seeing as everyone chipped in about their imminent summer outing except her, Kirin cheekily reaches into Tsurugi’s cubicle and prods her in the shoulder.
“E-Eh! What was that, Kirin?” She jolts from the contact of Kirin’s fingers.
“You’ve been smiling away since just now. Say something.”
“Sure but… about what?”
“Tsurugi, you’ve been to the beach before?” Eli calls out across Rose’s cubicle. Their attention collectively set upon Tsurugi as they began to realize she hasn’t been speaking much.
“Uhh… Plenty of times, yes. Back in elementary school, I would often go to the beach with my childhood friend.”
“With your childhood friend huh? That’s pretty nice.”
“Yeah. He—”
(Oh shoot.) Tsurugi held back realizing she was about to give away something intimate.
“...He?”
One by one, the other girls echo the gender of her supposed childhood friend. Tsurugi quickly notices the changing expressions on their faces. Even Naev who was the furthest away, had her eyes set upon her across Eli’s and Rose’s cubicles.
“Hey.” Kirin prods her again. “Are you hiding something? What is it?”
“N-No! It’s just… He… I mean we’re—”
“She’s hiding something.” Says Naev, who has a penchant for seeing through facades when she gets curious.
“Agreed.” Rose as well.
It gets kind of confusing. Are they sharing one shower? Are the cubicles walls low enough to see and touch each other? When that one girl splashed water, didn't it hit the others and make them annoyed or something?
and I wouldn't imagine long hair that's been wet and still shampooed to be like a curtain. More like a wrung out snake slithering across her back.
does bullying due to being excessively tall sound too weird?- No. Bullying can happen for any reason.
On that note, I was one of the tallest guys in class but I was not interested in Basketball. Considering I grew up in the Philippines, I think I was bullied more for not liking Basketball than anything else--among many other reasons (such as speaking in English instead of Tagalog, being interested in anime, not being a hypocritical Catholic, etc.)
True, though imagining how someone feels being over a foot taller and five years older than their peers seems kind of frightening.
That and how an IS has to be specially adjusted for someone of her size.
wavehawk
2015-03-18, 05:01
Well, -technically- Yamada-sensei gets bullied. Not physically, but...technically the students teasing her is a form of bullying.
Size adjustment would only be an initial case. She'd have to be taller than Ichika to cause such an issue, though. Most Rafale and Uchigane S seem capable to having different pilots. And on that: The Uchigane's frame shouldn't be difficult for a tall woman to put on, from what I see.
Err... at the time of her entrance to ISA she should be around 213cm tall. Roughly 7 feet.- That's abnormally tall and bordering on someone afflicted with Gigantism. IMHO I don't think they might be qualified for IS piloting--not because of height but because of other factors like poor blood circulation (eg more susceptible to passing out from g-forces) and more easily damaged bones (since your skeleton is carrying much more weight than normal human bones are meant to carry).
Just as a reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Wadlow
This is by no means a generalization, though. Some giants (wrestler Andre the Giant being the most famous one) have no problems with physical exertion or damage to bones.
But she's supposed to be normal. Her history of being bullied stems from the fact she is big, like tall big. I suppose that we'll have to take this matter in the artillery mindset. Replace MOA with something like CEP or NATO mil (or raise the spectrum. I don't think that sub-MOA accuracy is needed. Maybe 2 or 4 (same as assault rifles)?
In the case that the amount of ammunition is truly infinite (or near. I don't think that they would take 250k rounds per kill like with human - remember that most IS battles happen in the open.), then of course most wouldn't mind about size or weight of the round. PIC may also help with the recoil, thus firing rounds like 12.7x99mm would not be a problem.
An AK-47 could be melted, after all:
lND51FkLuFU
Not to mention the residues. Unless you make some holes to vent the hot gas air quickly (For example, a pistol that has one compensator behind the barrel instead of the ejection port), it's going to be a hell to clean it.
(Cosmoline, anyone?)
In short, I think that 12.7mm is still too big. I'd rather has something like the .308 Lapua Magnum on steroid. And no lead, possibility depleted uranium core and has fins.
Extra: Do you think that ergonomic is that important in IS firearms?
Also, they made pink ammunition (http://www.hornady.com/store/38-Special-90-gr-FTX-Critical-Defense-lite/) and even revolver (http://www.armedinheels.com/smith-wesson-pink-special-revolver-p-1716.html). Wonder wether would they do it with IS?
Next part. There's some segments that may well be edited out or rewritten later out of this draft.
The workshop was cleared of the earlier pile of parts, and Stark had begun connecting power cables to the large object in the room's center. The machine had the appearance of a giant resting moth. Dormant, with a dull red-brown color. The armor was still incomplete, but Ange was growing impatient. Shay had left earlier. No matter how hard Ange tried, Cunningham did not seem interested in the latest version of her IS.
He who laughs last, Stark smirked. Most IS designers worked with theoretical designs in a virtual space and let factories craft the machines. Although Ange designed her machines in a holographic system, the actual equipment still had to be put together by hand. Having her father's machine shop and lathe machines helped.
"Timestamp 4:03 AM 28th of the 8th." Ange began while the remote cameras rolled, following her every movement. "The frame's finished. All I need to do is pop the core in."
The recording equipment were part of an old system, one her father set up lifetimes ago in his garage. Ange simply took the old systems and applied them to her own little workshop--She kept the cameras and low-technology robots for sentimental value, as she remembered playing with them in her toddler years. It also meant that there were limits to the recording. Instead of a virtual camera tracking her every move, it was a remote tracked vehicle with an arm. Every now and then it would stumble over a cable, or else reach for a fire extinguisher for no good reason.
"In case you're wondering about the getup," She indicated the coveralls and construction worker's helmet she wore while filiming this documentary. "I've learned my mistake from my 3rd attempt, and have taken apropriate safety measures. Eddy doesn't like me walking in on him with all my clothes burned off. I think he's just a prude."
She stepped up to the resting machine.
"This one is Mark 1 Model 27. Took only three weeks to finish, because there were enough whole parts salvaged from Model 26 to build it off." Ange tried to keep the embarrassed blush to a minimum. "I've finally worked out the Fold-Out Armor system. Not as fancy as the 4th-Gen Akatsubaki, but it should do the job. I still haven't worked out the secret of the IS Core, but I've got a gut feeling this combination will work."
There was a long, unsure silence as the robot cameraman tilted it's view.
"I know what I'm doing." Ange reassures the machine, then turns away to roll out a hardened suitcase she had set aside. "Trust me."
The robot bent it's camera downward, shaking in disgust.
"Look, YOU have a better idea?"
The robot camera hunched over in defeat, then resumed filming.
"Okay, here goes everything." Stark rolled the suitcase in front of her. She then backed away, using a pair of remote robotic arms to deliver it's contents. The IS Core was a baseball-sized crystal and was not radioactive. Ange just thought the cameras had to record something dramatic. "Installing the core. Hasn't happened yet, but here's to hoping it doesn't explode."
It was an IS Core, registered number 56. All Infinite Stratos exoskeleton systems required one to function, and a limited number of them existed in the world. The brainchild and creations of Doctor Tabane Shinonono, no one else knew how to build or maintain them. The alien-looking object had been in her father's possession in the early days of IS technology, kept mainly for research purposes. Thus, it had never been mated to an exoskeleton till now. As far as Ange knew, her father hadn't cracked the core's secrets. She was also the only one to ever attempt installing this core into an actual IS. There was a satisfying click as the robot arms installed the core into the model 27's frame. Almost immediately there was a satisfied hum and drone of machinery, signs of an IS coming to life.
And then: Ker-Plunk.
"Oboy." Ange's eyes widened. "That. Can't. Be. Good."
The previously solid suit suddenly started dancing as if electrocuted, flapping rudimentary arms and legs wildly even as the winglike fold-out armor spun crazily along it's back.
Without another word, Ange yelped and leapt behind her worktable. Even the camera robot ducked as the Model 27 started throwing parts of itself all around the room, some with enough force to bury themselves in the wall. Every joint was smoking, and a distinct scent of charred metal and rubber was in the air. The machine jittered and jerked for a little while longer before finally freezing in a squatting position, as if sitting on a throne. A loud POP sounded, and the IS core rolled out the machine's rear end.
Ange took a full minute before she peeked over the table and became convinced it was safe. It was another minute before she worked up the courage to touch the blackened heap.
On cue, the squatting machine collapsed into fist-sized bits of scrap metal.
"...yeah. That went well." Ange took off the helmet and threw it over her shoulder. "Timestamp 4:38 AM 28th of the 8th. Core synchronization attempt with Mark 1 Model 27 failed. Nothing salvageable from Model 27 remains. Back to the old drawing board."
<--------------->
Shay fought the urge to say 'I told you so' to Stark's face. Partly because Ange was sitting facedown at her desk, bleary-eyed and worn out. There was a distinct smell of instant coffee on her school uniform, and signs of being hastily cleaned. A faint hint of a snore could also be heard.
"Don't you get enough sleep at home?" Cunningham mumbled. MacAllister College in Providence, Rhode Island was once a prestigious girl's school. It now focused on training pilots and developers for the Infinite Stratos exoskeleton. As IS were only usable by females, institutions such as MacAllister's grew in importance. As a research and technical school, it was the best in the United States while keeping its image as an elite girl's school.
The way Ange dozed was hardly representative of the school's students. Stark's snoring continued despite Cunningham's attempt. Shay then clapped a hand loudly on the desk.
"Whah." Ange popped her head up, and slowly turned to Cunningham. "Oh. Had to clean up my workshop." Stark replied half-dazed from lack of sleep. "Just some things I needed to take off the wall."
This time, Shay couldn't resist. "Screwed up again, did you?"
Ange said nothing, and her pouting silence said all.
"Ange, I'm not telling you to stop." Cunningham sat in the seat next to face her friend. "I'm just asking you to put your pet project on hold long enough to turn up at school."
"Ah, school." The snigger in Ange's voice was unmistakable through her drowsy drawl. "Where feeble minds turn into eggplant wizards and get a job and great minds turn to mush."
"ANGE."
"Tabane Shinonono doesn't have a monopoly on brains. I can build a better IS than she ever can." Stark's voice was turning defensive. "Just a few more adjustments and I've got it licked."
"Supposing you're right and you DO build the third 4h-Gen IS exoskeleton in existence. What then? It's not exactly original."
Ange opened her mouth but suddenly found nothing to say.
"So it's an ego thing." Cunningham
"I can hear the grand poobah herself marching in." Ange mumbled, but sat up straighter. Shay shot her one of her disaaproving glares but said nothing as she turned in her seat to face front.
A heavyset woman with a permanent frown strode into the room, and all was silent. Professor Abagail Pollock insisted her name be spelt 'with an A not an I', and cast her horrible stare at the whole class. As the head teacher for biometrics and exoskeletal interface systems, she found teaching students about the IS thoroughly insulting. Pollock's short temper was legendary, and even the principal cowered before her rage. She was one of the least liked teachers on campus, consistently harping on how her rudimentary exoskeleton concepts should have been chosen over the IS. Even showing the slightest interest in her claim would have the listener inundiated with complaints that the Professor's nanoskin gel was superior to the bodysuits IS pilots wore when it came to biometric interfaces.
No one in school dared to incur her ire. With one exception.
"Miss Stark." Pollock's voice was deep and grating, sounding like it belonged more to an crocodile than a woman. "I can see you have decided to grace us with your presence today."
"Yeah, I kind of ran out of useful things to do at home." Ange smirked. The whole class held their breath. Some in class secretly enjoyed watching Stark bait Pollock but would never admit it in public. "I'm up for a new challenge. How about you?"
The Professor turned instantly livid, and was about to burst into another one of her tirades when a skidding noise of sneakers was heard just outside. A red-haired girl poked her head in and tried to catch her breath while speaking, only succeeding in a cough and gasp as she tried to talk and breathe at the same time.
Pollock looked the girl head to toe with disgust. "You're late."
"Sorry, Professor Pollock." The harried new girl managed to wheeze between gasps of air. "The train was running late."
"Get in your seat." Pollock spoke as if she wanted to skin her alive. The girl gulped, and quickly scampered to her seat.
Dead silence, but everyone could see the Professor boring her sights down on the redhead. To Ange's surprise, it seemed Pollock had forgotten all about Stark and now poured her trademark venom onto the new girl.
"Miss Brogan, if you are under the delusion that you can graduate solely on your athletic scholarship, I will have you know you are sorely mistaken. " Pollock then glared at all the other students. "THIS is the problem with students like you. If you do not pass my course, I will personally have you expelled."
To the new girl's credit she did not whimper, but seemed frozen to her seat. Pollock was now pulling out test papers from her bag. For some reason, the Professor demanded her assignements be done on actual paper as opposed to digital copy.
Never seen her before, Ange grimaced, tapping Shay's shoulder. "Hey. who's the redhead?"
Cunningham did not turn around. "If you actually turned up to class, you'd know---"
"That we have a mysterious exchange student?"
Shay looked at her friend, counted to ten and rolled her eyes. "That's Jess Brogan. Transferred on a Track and Field scholarship last month."
"This school does sports scholarships?"
"She's a sprinter." Cunningham took a deep sigh. "Macallister can't be all just technology and development. There's inter-school sports, too."
"She always this late?"
Shay muttered under her breath. "At least SHE turns up to class."
"So she's like the mysterious transfer student that transfers in the middle the school year who's secretly the daughter of a superpowered villian." Stark held back a laugh. "I've seen this in a Power Rangers episode some months back. I bet you she'll suddenly have green glowy eyes and next a big giant robot dinosaur comes in and stomps all over the school."
"I don't know you." Shay covered her face behind her notebook. "I. Do. Not. Know. You."
* KMD-2 Uchigane: The world’s first mass-produced 2nd Generation I.S. It successfully brought acceptance by armies all over the world to integrate I.S into their structures. While being obsolete compares to later series (the American Ulysses, Russian кабан (Wild Boar) and French Rafale-Revive), its maneuverability, simplicity and ruggedness is nothing to be looked upon. Units are still in use with the Japanese Self-Defence Force and I.S Academy.
- Armaments:
+ Taipu 56 Batoruraifuru o nyūryoku (Type 56 Battle rifle): A modular rifle with internal system derived from the AEK-973S, but replacing the hammer with a striker. Fires the new 7.5x65 mm armor-piercing round in semi-auto, 4-round burst and full-auto. Usually equipped with the Type 56 or Type 57 for more suppressing power. Quite accurate for its class, but the size and weight make it quickly became unpopular with pilots. The Type 58 can’t be equipped with Type 60 Bayonet.
+ Taipu 57 Mojurāgurenēdoranchā O Nyūryoku (Type 57 Modular Grenade Launcher): Mounted under the Type 56 or used individually, it launches the 50mm caseless grenade. Ammunitions include fragmented, smoke, high explosive, flare, thermobaric and infra-red.
+ Taipu 58 Mojurāshottoganshisutemu O Nyūryoku (Type 58 Modular Shotgun System): Mounted under the Type 56 or used individually, it utilizes the 45mm canister shot that contains dozens of shrapnels (treated with phosphate to burn when fired). Deathly but the effective range is extremely short.
+ Taipu 59 Sentaku Kanō Asarutobatoruraifuru (Type 61 Selectable Assault Battle Rifle): Or SABR in short. Developed from the Type 58, it’s capable of firing both the common 7.5x65 mm and the 30x110mm airburst rounds. It feature an interesting system in which the two long-stroke piston working as counterbalancer of each other, thus making the Type 59 can fires from both barrels at the same time. Both the Type 57 and 58 can still be attached on the Type 59.
+ Taipu 60 Bayonetto (Type 60 Bayonet): Multi-purpose knife. Hand-carried or mounted on the Type 61 (between the KE and HE modules). Most Uchigane carry two or more of these (since the Type 62 is difficult for the average pilot to master, thus limited their CQC option to this).
+ Taipu 61 Shikisensha Kurōzuku Ōtākonbattosāmaru Gatana (Type 59 Close-Quarter-Combat Thermal Katana): Designed for CQC, the Type 62 and Type 60 combination called a Daisho by some (However, it’s interesting to note that the Type 58 is inspired by the Odaichi design, while the type 60 is a Tanto). The blade temperature could be raised up to 750°C for 30 minutes. After that, the blade is prone to break. Rarely used by the JSDF pilots due to its size and difficult to master.
Heh, I suppose so. Though I still can't get a proper lead on the most probable location of the IS Academy.
First, I thought it would be in Tokyo but it's too squeezy to fit the anime scene of it. Then I thought it could be somewhere off the coast of Ito, seeing as there are seaside towns and it leads to the wide view of the ocean. I don't know man, it's a mix of thrill and awkwardness. Since I have the rail pass, I could scout locations if I had the time.
Hmmm seeing the discussion going on at the kancolle history thread makes me think that it might really be possible to do the "Japan vs the world" story I thought up. But ofcourse there's gotta be a shift in ideals like Zero had once warned me of. I can see that much now.
As muchas 467 IS cores are awesome, Japan wouldn't have the industrial capability to mobilize all of them at once. Especially not after a nuclear fallout that should've reduced their country to a line in illegalized history books. As much as there would be a war with the outside world, there would be a massive internal conflict within the country of Japan between conservatives who believe that Japan is well within its rights to invade other countries after the world turned against them; and the liberal thinking party who believe that they should still strive for peace and strike a dialogue instead of the war march they're doing.
And yet for all the internal bickering they do, a rebellion or coup de etat is impossible. Not because no one wants to but everyone is frighteningly aware that the country's population has been cut to less than half. They don't have the numbers to risk killing off as it's their few million against billions.
So the resulting story should be... political war sci-fi highschool harem?
Someone has already thought about that.
But seriously, do you think that Ichika is that blind to the outside world? Excluding leve and all those hassle, do you really think that he has a noble and knightly heart. Or he is just so-so, dragging his existence?
But I'm guessing that Ichika would be ultra-violent bad-ass who thinks killing is justified now because of all the substantial losses and mind-fucking slaughter he saw of the few nukes from the collective world that somehow got through the white knight.
Don't know about you, but I'm sure that Chifuyu's brother could never be the latter.- That would depend on the situation. Ichika of the LN/Anime canon can't be that type of character. But that's not to say an Ichika in another situation or existence wouldn't turn out differently.
(Damn my discussion with friends about the Marvel and DC multiverses giving me ideas)
But I'm guessing that Ichika would be ultra-violent bad-ass who thinks killing is justified now because of all the substantial losses and mind-fucking slaughter he saw of the few nukes from the collective world that somehow got through the white knight.- Even more mind-shattering. Chifuyu gets killed in that event.
You just made me think: Deathstroke Ichika. Wearing an eyepatch and a much darker version of Byakushiki (let's not call it Kurokishi because that would be expected and cliche).
And if canon!Ichika meets him---expect some Fate/Stay Night in-jokes and lampshading.
Ichika would be part of a defebsive strike force. Readapting my idea of the arbalest and bolt system. Basically defensive strike forces are naval ship boarders. The team hides inside large projectile weapons fired at the ships by simplistics mass drivers. Once hit, the strike team emerges from the projectile to take over the ship and board other ships from there.- The mass drivers sound a lot like the launching systems for Mobile Infantry in the original Starship Troopers book (never featured in the movie). Or like the drop pods used by ODSTs/Covenant. But for it to be practical they'd have to be one-or-two man units. Any bigger and the weight and mass would require a bigger massdriver, one that might take more space on that ship than practical. Maybe instead of making them long-distance launchers have them work like a close-range broadside: EG at close range the attacking ship would fire these projectiles/boarding craft and at the same time latch onto the other ship. That way not only can they be certain of penetrating armor and not losing a few boarders (due to their missing the target ship), they can also control the ship from getting away--and sending in reinforcements from the attacking ship.
Or maybe you could use something similar to the Manapault (the weird person-launching catapault from MGS4) and just have them land on top of the enemy ship to be boarded.
What if the current Ichika is a Roidmude and the real one is already dead? :p :heh: - So Ichika was replaced with a Life Model Decoy? (---turns gaze towards Ange Stark)
But yes, I do believe we all either have improved versions of Ichika. Mine is still idiotic and gutless, but because of 1) wanting to save energy, 2) small elements of wanting to step out of Chifuyu's shadow but failing to because she casts SUCH a LONG shadow, 3) small elements of guilt for getting Chifuyu injured ([The Infinite Stratos] opens with Ichika's memory of Chifuyu beating off someone trying to kill Ichika and losing her lower arm in the process), 4) admiring his sister at the same time.
However, he is still an Orimura so when push comes to shove, I've had Ichika punch above his weight (and justifiably battered for it) and also I did make him a much better swordsman than canon. I've managed to keep his ability to recall random facts.
What no male idol? You are such kill joy:heh: Firstly, you must realize that the SHOOTiNG ST@R Initiative is also a Tabane-funded UN Security Council white paper to gather exceptional IS pilots, ie, ISpers, under one umbrella and train them into an international task force where they can be deployed in future as a response to increasingly technologically advanced threats. Something like MITHRIL.
At the same time, this allows the UNSC to keep an eye on what essentially are the most dangerous human life forms on the planet. Again, something like MITHRIL.
However, marketing them as international idols makes them more palatable, much like how the EU got away with their supersoldier program (and their participation in the SHOOTiNG ST@Rs with Celeste), or how the US got away with the Project Stargate, or how the ASEAN has the National Cadet Corps Stratos school clubs.
At the same time, idol training has demonstrated to be very effective for improving IS performance, because not only are the pilots and suits more in sync, the amount of positive Willpower generated increases the output of an IS core substantially.
(CLASSIFIED CONTENT from Hyakka Rouran Uchikenger: This was used long long ago by the Japanese, having utilized what essentially are primitive IS called Kobu to fend off demonic attacks. The Imperial Defence Force was on the surface a theatre troupe which disbanded some time during the 2nd world war. At the peak of its activities, the IDF had no ISpers, or, as they are originally called in prehistory, Nephalem, and yet these ladies proved potent enough to fight off these beings from deep space.)
Therefore, girls, ISpers, ISes, Idol Stratos. Because, canon rules.
...egads, my chuunibyou. D:
You're not going to stop Ichika's idol debut though. Because:
"TABANE!"
EDIT
Ange Stark was missing from the lineup. There was supposed to be 15 idols...
EDIT2
I must admit that there's a HUGE complication in this plan. For one we have no idea what Kazuma's personality is like. In my head, I'd have him as the cool jock to compliment Ichika's bone-headedness and Dan's having to be the straight man. While that might work, deviation from the character itself will hurt me.
Another complication is the nature of the Idol Stratos. Unless this is much later in the series where idols in spaceframes are a more popular idea, there is very little reason for funding to have Dan and Kazma as idols, and Ichika is too dumb to be an idol.
BUT
Ichika has a knack to be talented in the most random of ways. What if he surprisingly is good at being an idol? What if...
...IDOL ICHIKA USES THAT ORIMURA GENE TO ENTRANCE THE WORLD?!?!?!?!??! :eek:
EDIT3
Anastasia's name was too clunky and so I went for Anya Maizuru instead. As expected, she's the Russiophile idol piloting a Prokhorovka Heavy Metals Massproduction Infinite Stratos RK-92 Baqr-type. She named it “Verniy”, or Faithful.
Yes, this is going to be a huge retcon for my work, as previously I stated that Russia had no localized IS but I only later this contradicted some rules regarding IS production. So instead, the Russians made the RK-series MPIS as per Russian tank nomenclature. The Chinese then copied them but ended up making a Type-35 (an RK-92 clone) then created a billion reiterations of the design. The Shenlong-type now bears the Type-35 serial number and likewise Lingyi's Shenlong is the WZ-36, indicating that it is a prototype as per Chinese tank nomenclature.
EDIT4
I wonder if there's another reason why Riselle is wary of Tatenashi, besides constantly pointing out that they [the idols] are simply well-kept lab rats of the ISA.
After all, Water is Super Effective against Fire, right?
*is IAMNOTAPOKEMON-Kicked across the room*
EDIT5
And suddenly, something I really want to make into an IS, but can't:
http://www.tomopop.com/ul/19410-/busoushinki-550x.jpg
I deal in massproduction models and this looks like NOTHING in canon. I suppose it could be the next "update" to the Vandam series by combining the Skygrasper parts carrier with the armor itself, and so this is the Vandam Zeta (tentative name)? This also opens things up to a million different Zeta variants... :uhoh:
I'm pretty sure Cecilia had some exposure to the SAS as canon. And Laura is pretty damn obvious.
Theorizing for the rest:
Charl was trained by whatever spy and torture masters Dunois had in his employ.
Ling was part of the PLA, and the Black Lotus program is quite... intensive.
Meijin Sarashiki is ALSO quite obvious. Her IS is very interesting and provides more hints. VERY Sumerian in design, Knight Templar even. Her family might just be even older than we think!
Surprisingly, Houki is the most ordinary girl.
I must admit that there's a HUGE complication in this plan. For one we have no idea what Kazuma's personality is like- It's either an advantage or disadvantage. We can't see much of his personality in the small bit shown in the LN. On the other hand I think that also gives up some leeway to develop the character.
I don't think the GIGN will accept Charl, so the Legionare?- The Legion Etrangere are a bit yes and no. Most of the fighting men in that unit were actually non-French citizens joining in part to earn French citizenship (it's only fairly recently that they accept French nationals), and is commanded by French officers. So I guess it's possible to falsify Charl's identity and have her train with them. Also, since they mainly operate outside of French soil, less chance of Charl being found out.
And don't mention the Spetsnaz to Tate. - That's a bit difficult, as Spetsnaz is a blanket term for any number of Russian (and former Soviet) Special Operations units. So comparing which specific Spetsnaz is the best...can be difficult. Also, I woudl think the Black Sea Naval Infantry might be...a better fit. That said, Tatenashi is more in line with Japanese Ninja than anything (and I basically hinted at that in my fics).
Geheheh. Tough to write this bit
Ugh. Natasha put down the styrofoam cup and pursed her lips. There wasn't much to the mess hall apart from the empty chairs and tables. There was a coffee percolator with the words "Busted" scrawled on it with magic marker, and a sugar jar full of instant coffee sachets. The actual kitchen was boarded up and closed. Only a pair of vending machines were available to dispense food, and Fairs wasn't sure she wanted to try the green fuzz growing on the badly packed sandwiches within.
On the one hand, she wondered if she had just been too spoiled by good coffee. Being an offical government IS pilot had numerous perks, among them better food and living quarters. It could be that Natasha had way too many professionally made mocha lattes to appreciate normal coffee.
Or it could be just that government-issue instant coffee was terrible.
Fairs ran a hand through her blonde hair. The only reason she was in the mess hall was because she needed the caffeine kick more than the actual coffee. She had no sleep on the flight in. It would have been quicker had she still been able to access Silverio Gospel, her IS.
The Rhode Island National Guard Garrison was a joint Headquarters for Army and Air National Guard, local militia for the state of Rhode Island. It was not a fully-fledged military base, but on occassion it was used by regular Army or Air Force personnel as well. Facilities existed, but the National Guard was a part-time force.
One of the downsides of the IS being adopted in the world meant far less manpower was needed for military and security. Frontline troops like the normal army and navy were kept mainly unchanged. But local forces suffered. The United States National Guard were essentially a highly-trained militia, more tied to the individual state they represented than the main Armed Forces of the country. Due to the IS overwhelming firepower and limited numbers, the US Air Force claimed the lion's share of IS cores, the remainder being divided among Army and Navy/Marine units. Nothing was spared for the National Guard, indeed many individual states like Rhode Island downsized their forces to keep costs down. Outside of local humanitarian assitance, there was really no more point to having a large number of National Guard units.
Rhode Island National Guard HQ was basically a ghost base. Fairs initially thought the place understaffed when she arrived.
Not even a working coffee machine in here. Are you kidding? Natasha frowned. She was almost tempted to just call for a pizza when the mess hall phone rang.
When it rains, it pours. Natasha had advised the receptionist at the Garrison front desk, an Airman by the name of Gorton, to forward calls to her not more than ten minutes ago.
"Fairs."
"Ma'am." Airman Gorton was on the other line. The Mess hall door opened just as he spoke. "A Captain Chien has arrived to see you."
Oh god. Natasha's mood sunk when she realized who the other officer was. "Thank you Airman. I can take it from here." Fairs set the phone down.
Captain Enrica Chien wasn't a pilot. The Twenty-Fifth Air Force which she was part of was more of an inteligence and security command than a combat squadron, and were headquartered further south. Texas, a good six-hour flight away.
"Captain Fairs." The intelligence officer greeted her in a flat monotone. "This out of your jurisdiction."
"Captain Chien." Natasha did not salute, as she and Chien were of the same rank. That and she could not shake her dislike of the woman. Fairs was personable and liked chatting with people, while Chien was her coldly professional opposite. Natasha wondered if she wasn't merely a robot in human guise. "Seeing as Silverio Gospel is still undergoing repair and security checks, I thought I'd keep myself busy."
Chien was unfazed. "This is not an IS-related matter."
"Oh but it does involve IS." Fairs interjected, trying not to show annoyance. "Two IS of unknown make and allegiance took down your unit."
"Colonel Eiling didn't give you permission to comandeer an Army unit, Captain Fairs." Chien emphasized the word with rare distaste.
"Well, if we all followed Colonel Eiling, we'd have a 24-hour delay before getting boots on the ground." Natasha responded with a polite but sharp smile. Eiling was Chien's boss, another person Natasha was not terribly fond of. "I took the initiative."
"You are overstepping your boundaries." Chien had a habit of making statements, not asking questions. "This is none of your business."
"Captain. If IS units that are not known to the US Government are flying with impunity over the skies of a major American state, it becomes my business." Natahsa crossed her arms and started tapping a finger on her bicep, a nervous tic she'd learned from an old friend. "And if those unidentified IS engage in combat with a US Air Force drone over American aerospace? Then that is also my business."
"It isn't a drone."
The plot thickens. Natasha wondered if Chien's no-questions atttiude made it difficult for her to investigate problems. Everything presented to her had to be a cold hard fact. "Oh? Then what is it?"
"Classified." Chien didn't seem to have any sort of emotion on her face. "You are relieved, Captain Fairs."
"You're not my superior officer. And neither is Eiling." Fair froze and gave Chien her best glare. "I'm Silverio Gospel's pilot. You know damn well I've got high enough security clearance."
"Elements of the 6960th Electronic Security Wing will be using this garrison for the duration." Chien spoke as if she hadn't heard a word Fairs had said. "That is all." With that, Chien turned and left.
Just what are you and the Twenty-Fifth hiding, Captain Chien? Natasha glared daggers at the intelligence officer's back. She was now convinced the other woman was actually a killer robot from the future.
Guess I have to reveal more plans:
1) At the start of the story, the USA ironically is the only non-participating entity of IS armed federations in the SHOOTiNG ST@R Initiative. Even though the UNSC voted unanimously to begin training the task force, no doubt a result of Tabane's meddling, the US is still dragging their feet in supplying a ISPer from Project STARGATE. Further more, at the start of the story, it is still not revealed whether Ange is an ISPer/Nephalim yet, but she isn't anyway. Lastly, the Republican-run US is a political antagonistic entity in the 1st season. So really, there's very little reason for Ange to appear until the end of season 1.
2) I expected her to have Iron Maidens I, II and III to happen before even appear. Her own stories elsewhere on the planet. Joining SHIELD even. Then SHIELD implodes just days after the Johonbu does, the US is dewormed of Phantom Task, one thing leads to another, including Rachel Browning's arc.
This then ends with Rachel, Ange and the other Idol Stratos performing the Boost Jump formation (http://unrealitymag.bcmediagroup.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/sidonia1.jpg) to return to the ISA, symbolising both closure of one chapter in the Stark's story and completion of the SHOOTiNG ST@R Initiative. Which means that A LOT OF STORY had already happened before Ange even appears at the ISA.
3) Again, I reinforce that I am most likely working in an AU giving the changes I made to both canon history, canon characters and even fanon characters from everyone both active and inactive, so technically whatever you do intend to do with Ange may never affect me at all.
So THAT'S where Vulkan Weber managed to continue Charles' "training" from Dunois after the events of Vandam I!! Yes that would actually make her the balanced person we see in canon instead of a wreck at the hands of the men in black suits in Dunois' employ!!
You know who else lived in France prior to entering the ISA? Erika Weber.
You know who else met Charlotte when they were children, by extension of Vulkan? Erika Weber.
IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!
You guys are a GENIUS!! I can use ALL OF THIS!!
*cough*
Although, I am sounding like I am getting ahead of myself here. I am NOT involving the Helheim Forest or whatever thingamajig is from Kamen Rider Gaim simply because the magical side of things is about "conspiracy theories and myths were true". Adding Kamen Rider breaks an already tenuous premise.
However, I can still add a fabulous Legion Etrangere veteran who now works as a top-class patisserie to the story, because that just combines like a BILLION French stereotypes into one.
Furthermore, it allows me to add to Vandam I's epilogue when it showcases Charles. He speaks with the press about saving the Vandam contract and boosting investor confidence, goes about his regal business, then slips away to Vulkan's care, much to the chagrin of Charlotte's half-brother, Luques.
Instead of ending it there, I simply extend it by adding him changing out of disguise, into a simple country girl. Then Charlotte appears at Oren's shop, where she runs into her old childhood friend, unwittingly keeping her promise.
With this extension, I not only set up the long Dunois arc where, it also allows me to cameo Erika Weber in Vandam I, Marvel-style, as Erika too has her own story to follow Vandam I.
Not knowing where to insert Erika in Vandam was preventing me from writing Vandam I any further, so now I suddenly unjam my writing!!!!
Kabuto-verse
The year is 2031, Shinonono Tabane has successfully marketed and standardized her invention of the IS which allowed humanity to take to the final frontier, space. However, even with that state of the art technology, it seemed humanity was still not ready to take its next step.
It started out simple enough. The loss of one or two units. Everyone had been in a frenzy then because IS were more than just space traveling vehicles. They were also humanity's foremost powerful weapon. No arsenal on Earth could match an IS pound for pound except another IS. That was an established fact. For two to just vanish was unthinkable. An investigation crew was sent, but not a single member came back. Eventually a full blown expedition was launched, inaugurated even with the blessings of the whole earthsphere. They had the best IS technology and defenses earth had to offer. They ventured to the place where all those IS' had disappeared. Never did they imagine the horror they'd meet.
Another 10 years pass. No sign of the expedition ever returned. Not a communication call, not a single returning crew member. it was as if they had vanished. Just when all people had lost hope of their return. Despair of a worse kind rained down upon them. Meteors, far too large to be the kind that burned out in the air but far too small to destroy the Earth began to rain down. People were afraid, screaming, running, panicking in fear of being struck. They had no idea that the true peculiarity of these meteors was the fact they suffered minimal mass loss during re-entry. These were not rocks from space, these were transport ships.
From the craters of the meteors emerged humanity's greatest enemies, the worms.
They made short work of the cities surrounding their pods. Exterminating humans and cutting down the defenses left on Earth. Humanity was forced to fall back to the most inhospitable corners of the planet just to survive. Ofcourse, they tried to fight back, but the worms were just too powerful. The IS no match for the ability of the worms to enter a realm of light speed. A method of movement that defied not the physical laws of physics but space and time itself. A different degree of existence altogether from what should have been a weapon in its own class. What's more, worms also had the ability to mimic humans, making them not only a threat in confrontations but in espionage as well.
That's why Professor Shinonono Tabane created the ZECTERs. Small machines created to gran humanity the ability to fight back against the worms. Basing the system off the natural tachyon energies generated by the worms. Knowing humanity was at its end, Tabane sent back the ZECTERs into the past, hoping that maybe this tragedy could be averted. She realized that perhaps if she had not been so stubborn and selfish, wanting everyone to acknowledge the fruits of her genius, perhaps she would not have ushered in the end of the world.
Back to the past in 2020. The ZECTERs arrive and begin to select their chosen. Of all the ZECTERs, there are two who are prototypes. Failed products which did not meet expectations but sent out on this mission anyway. The twin hopper ZECTERs. At that time, they arrived in an abandoned warehouse where they found a young man in restraints. His despair and and determination mirroring their own as failures. So they chose him. They chose Orimura Ichika to become a Kamen Rider.
^ Is this supposedly before or after she met Chifuyu? Or not at all since this is an AU? - Just after. I'm kind of iffy how to go about Natasha's character. She's generally pleasant but professional. Not surprisingly there are a lot of people who dislike her (Capt. Chien). That's one of the reasons I post here, if there's some way I can -reasonably- make Natasha better yet more human and fleshed out.
I mean think of it, Fairs is essentially one of the more 'good guy' American characters in IS, and having a connection with Silverio Gospel she basically sees herself as sort of a Captain America.
Hmm... I suppose that you'll have to change the climax by a bit. Even when he's a child, Ichika showed high-sensitivity to others (hey, that is how Houki fell for him). Half of his face burned, and he'd still be that clamp to Chifuyu's sanity
Madoka... It will be bloody.
You know what? Why most protagonist in Japanese fictions usually says "I want to protect... Therefore, I fight"? Why people favor this type of guys? Even in history, people still loves Hijikata Toshizo ad the Shinshengumi than, say, Sakamoto Ryoma that helped bring up the revolution?
... Not my turn to answer. But I do realize that there is none leading the ideology side of Ichika's inner circle of friends.
P.S: If only the Spetsnaz's 45th Detached Reconnaissance Regiment open a sub-base on the far north. Planning for Kanzashi's mother an ex-paratrooper (and class 1-4 Homeroom teacher.)
Captain Chien is not a nice person. #UnderstatementOfTheYear This is an intentional move on my pat: Natasha Fairs who is more of a personable character, opbviously has an opposite in Enrice Chein who's cold and pretty much heartless.
Night was falling on Rhode Island, but its National Guard Garrison was finally waking up. It had become a beehive of activity, as elements of the Twenty-Fifth Air Force began to take possession of the site. They had flown into the nearby T. F. Green Airport via cargo transport and traveled the rest of the way by truck. The few National Guard regulars were promptly swept aside by the incoming group as they turned the mess hall into a command centre. The building had become the central nerve hub for a major operation, and the National Guardsmen felt as if they had been evicted fromt heir own base.
The Twenty-Fifth Air Force was formerly known as the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency. They had very little in common with the popular image of the Air Force; In the post-IS political climate, intelligence operations had risen in importance. As the entire world had access to Infinite Stratos exoskeletons to varying degrees, the US military found itself under huge pressure to keep America's military overmatch capability. The Twenty-Fifth was an integral part of countering that pressure.
Their flying elements consisted solely of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other support aircraft. It was exactly those machines that Captain Chien was referring to as she strode the mess hall floor, conversing with the head Tech Sergeant.
"Twenty units?" the dumbfounded Tech Sergeant replied.
"Twenty units, Arlegui." Captain Chien nodded with not a hint of emotion in her voice. "Configured for urban reconnaisance and combat. Fully active and ready to go right now."
Arlegui paused at his boss' response. Legally speaking the regular or national level military such as the US Air Force had no right to perform operations on US soil. That was the role of the Air National Guard, local militia forces. Fully armed UAVs flying within US civilian aerospace was not only unheard of but illegal. That did not even factor in that operating UAVs for non-recreational purposes within the United States required a Certificate of Authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration, and the sergeant was fairly sure no one had bothered to obtain one before they were mobilized.
"Captain, that's pretty short notice. If you want them active, we'd have to set up all four of the repose pits we brought in." The non-commissioned officer shook his head. The repose pit was a bed-sized sealed egg, the 'thinking' part of their current crop of UAVs. With them, a 'pilot' could control up to five units simultaneously. "I can't set them up in time."
"You're relieved." Chien replied with neither empathy nor fury.
"Ma'am?" the man stood blankly, not entirely sure if he'd heard right. The commanding officer's lack of any other response brought the reality home. "You're not serious! You're asking for the impossible. We just got here!"
"The Air Force has no time for excuses or excuse-makers. Get your worthless carcass back to Texas and out of my sight on the next flight." Chien tonelessly remarked.
"Captain--"
And as an added sting: "Don't make me shoot you, Arlegui."
Arlegui shuddered at the bone-cold tone of Chien's response. Everyone else froze as well, Chien was the kind of officer who was dead serious when making threats. White as a sheet, the Tech Sergeant turned away and began packing his gear. A minute later, he left the room.
People around stared. Chien's still-unemotional face was what stared back at them. Tech officers, military police and support staff alike. Cold as death itself.
"If anyone else here is about to tell me that I can't have my twenty units, you can go home with Arlegui."
Cold silence covered the room.
"Gentlemen. We have a mission to execute." Chien was not mistaken. All of the Air Force troops in hearing range were male. "I intend to complete it. With or without your help." And suddenly, with a rare, almost frighteningly passionate zeal, she glared at them all. "Even if I have to put a bullet in each and every one of you until I find someone who can MAKE IT HAPPEN."
"I want those twenty units," she repeated, then walked off without further comment.
The entire division leapt into action.
Hmm... I suppose that you'll have to change the climax by a bit. Even when he's a child, Ichika showed high-sensitivity to others (hey, that is how Houki fell for him). Half of his face burned, and he'd still be that clamp to Chifuyu's sanity
Madoka... It will be bloody.
You know what? Why most protagonist in Japanese fictions usually says "I want to protect... Therefore, I fight"? Why people favor this type of guys? Even in history, people still loves Hijikata Toshizo ad the Shinshengumi than, say, Sakamoto Ryoma that helped bring up the revolution?
... Not my turn to answer. But I do realize that there is none leading the ideology side of Ichika's inner circle of friends.
P.S: If only the Spetsnaz's 45th Detached Reconnaissance Regiment open a sub-base on the far north. Planning for Kanzashi's mother an ex-paratrooper (and class 1-4 Homeroom teacher.)
But Kanzashi isn't russian though? unless you plan on having a true russian representative rather than Tatenashi.
Chien's a b****, no doubt about it, but she seems surreal - don't know if you want her to be like that - like Chifuyu-hype surreal. She's too cold, and too cruel. IF she was real, she'd be in the brig or out of the military altogether :heh:
In this case, the Tech Sgt (E6) could have complained to his superior (a warrant officer or another officer like that would most likely be in charge of the UAVs.) You don't request assets like that. The op may have called for 20 UAVs but those are his UAVs - she's borrowing them. Steamrolling like that would just make things all that much harder for her - unless she's got backup from high up yonder who makes things happen for her regardless. She'd need a General's backing to get some of the stuff done that she wants. 0.o
Chien doesn't seem like the type to go with the 'women are awesome' hype of the IS. In fact, she doesn't seem to care (failed a compatibility test, therefore, she's not considered IS material?) And she naturally hates girls/women like Natasha - beautiful, smiles all the time, things happen for her instead of her making it happen (or so it seems).
The world isn't all songs and roses yet, so might as well make the most obvious one the annoying ally in the side. You know, the one that complains a lot, does mostly nothing and only helps out when there's something to gain.
After all, the US is where a Republican presidential candidate once wanted to withdraw all US forces, station them around the Americas and seal the borders. So I thought, why not make it true?
It was the dead of night. Another boring day had past and Ichika had decided to step out of the house to pick himself up some soda from the nearest vending machine. The night was warm, so maybe cold juice would also suffice. The young man thought he was lacking in vitamins anyway, though the nutritional value in canned juice was questionable at best. Ichika shrugged as he stood in front of the machine. He picked one at random. Considering his diet consisted mostly of instant noodles because of his busy study schedule, he decided that he didn't really care about a balanced diet.
He just stood there, enjoying the night with drink in hand, contemplating a second purchase from the mechanical salesman. He smiled. This was one hell of a way to celebrate a birthday. His sister was busy and his friends had all gone to karaoke without him. Not that nobody tried to invite themselves into his life event. He just... he didn't like complicating things. Sister was off doing work to keep their orphaned family of two afloat. Didn't want to add to that drama by pressuring her to come back home early just to share cake and blow out a few candles with him, he wasn't five. Couldn't hang out with friends either because God knows the last time he went they stayed overnight and that messed up his grades so bad his sister almost beat him to death. Not conducive to letting social welfare keep their independence, he knew. But she meant well.
He took another sip and a gunshot cracked through the cool night air. The young man stared down at his shirt and the mess of orange all over it. His can of orange soda had burst after a shockwave disturbed his hand. The contours of a bullet hole could be clearly seen on the aluminum but little did he care about that.
"Hello there. Fancy meeting you in a place like this." a voice called out from the dark shadows of the streets.
Ichika granted the newcomer a modicum of attention before turning his gaze back to his spoiled beverage. He tried to take a swig of it but blanched and spat it out almost as quickly. "Figures there'd be lead and gunpowder." He tossed the can into the nearby receptacle and went to buy another can. He paused as one hand floated over the orange soda button. He turned his head to side and asked, "You want one too?"
The voice in the shadows audibly grit their teeth at the disrespectful show of non-chalance. A gunshot and disembodied voice in the dark didn't seem to faze this one. Even though she figured he was soft from all this civilian living, maybe he was just an idiot?
Sounds of a cocking gun echoed in the empty street but Ichika didn't seem to mind. "Feigning ignorance won't save you at all."
Ichika hummed as he listened to the machine beep in his order. "I know full well you're pointing that gun on me as well as the fact the country has strict regulations on guns. Which in turn means you aren't just the average thug out to mug me for money." The soda can tumbled into the plastic retrieval bin noisily and Ichika took it with an all too happy smile. "In short, you're not someone I probably want to tangle with and you aren't here by chance. Likely, you're here specifically for me. Am I close?"
"Tch.", the shadowy voice was followed by the echoes of clicking heels on pavement. Soon he could see the visage of a girl's face, her face.
SLUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRP
Ichika took a long drag from his can. "You kinda look like my sister.", he pointed out anti-climatically.
That seemed to set off something in the girl because she fired again but Ichika did not move an inch. Not even as the bullet whizzed by over his shoulder. "Don't you ever dare say that!" the girl screamed.
"Right.", Ichika nodded noncommittally. "My bad."
Bang!
"Take this seriously!", the girl who looked like the middle-school version of Ichika's older sister screamed after firing another shot that touched just the tips of his black hair. "I'm holding a gun aimed right at your head, at the very least take this seriously."
Ichika sighed, "But I can't." He took a large gulp of soda. "This is all just scare tactics, you aren't trying to kill me yet." He swilled the can to see how much was left in. Huh, not much. "Just tell me what you want and I'll decide if I want to be serious about it."
The girl tightened her grip on the handgun but did not fire. The way her fingers were twitching, she was likely fighting the overwhelming urge to just shoot the frivolous young man between the eyes. "My name is Orimura Madoka. I'm here to take my place back."
Ichika's brows knit together quickly as a scowl took over his face on the last sip of his drink.
Madoka smiled, "That seems to have gotten your attention."
The young man slowly pulled the can away from his face before crushing it in hand and chucking it into the trash bin. "Yes, it did.", he looked at her, "I don't remember having any relatives I don't live with, much less ones that would shoot a gun just to say hello. So who are you really and what do you mean by taking back your place? Is there some kind of Orimura will signing a fortune out or something?"
"Fool!", Madoka fired again. Aim veering beside Ichika's ear in her anger. "You have no understanding of the pain I went through. You who lived a happy life filled with love could never know the hell I do."
Ichika snorted, "You're right, I don't." He shook his head pityingly, "But you don't seem to understand much either if you assume my life is all that happy."
"Shut up!", she fired. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!", she fired and fired with every repetition of the phrase until there were no bullets left. None hit Ichika, because she never meant to.
Madoka threw the gun to the side of the road and grinned manically. "I'll make you understand true hell.", she hissed, "The hell I went through!"
A bright light filled the dark street and Ichika saw the girl was no longer wearing some sort of odd military unifrom. She was now in a one-piece swimsuit leotard hybrid with mechanical gauntlets, greaves and wing like things floating around her. There was a helmet like object over her head, exposing only the bottom half of her face. She had armed herself with the most powerful weapon currently known to man, the Infinite Stratos. And it was not just any Infinite Stratos, it was the second generation flagship prototype of England, the Silent Zephyrs.
"Suffer!", Madoka screamed as a rifle materialized in her hand and fired a sizable bolt of energy.
Ichika only held up one hand. The scowl on his face growing ever so clearly.
PSSSHHAAAAAA!
The blast hissed and crackled before vanishing in a show of steaming atmosphere and ionized ozone. What was left after that blast was not an armless Ichika as expected but a green gadgety, grasshopper like object floating in mid-air. It chirped once before stopping its mid-air spinning to jump into Ichika's waiting palm.
"Sorry", Ichika mumbled as a second chirp sounded from somewhere behind him to expose a red gadgety grasshopper like object. It jump past him at waist level and a wormhole formed for it to jump into. In exchange, the wormhole spat out a belt that wrapped around Ichika's waist with a snap. He pressed down on the top of the belt to open a slot in the buckle. "But I've already been to hell."
Ichika slid the green grasshopper like gadget along the rails of the open belt buckle with a click and announced, "Henshin."
"HEN-SHIN", sang an airy digital voice.
Green energy hexes popped like scales all over Ichika's body before solidifying into solid plated armor. The form completed into a bug-like design of a grasshopper with green and gunmetal gray metals. Once finished forming, the red eyes of the armor lit up and invisible energy released from it in a violent torrent.
"CHANGE KICK HOPPER", another mechanical voice sounded, this time a deep rumbling bass.
"Wh-What?", the IS pilot stepped back in hesitation. This was not part of the plan. The intelligence reports never had anything like this in them. As far as the Phantom Task scouts were concerned, he was just a normal boy. She grit her teeth, "That armor won't make any difference, nothing is stronger than the IS!"
Ichika leaned back on his foot. He cut a languid exasperated figure and sighed, "I wasn't planning to use strength." He saw the bright flash of energy discharge from Silent Zephyr's rifle and he ran a finger along the deep imprint on top of his belt buckle.
He disappeared in the flash of light and the girl in the IS was thrilled for all of a tenth of a second before a severe impact sent her crashing through a nearby concrete wall on the side of the road.
What was that?
It was the only thought running through Madoka's mind as she searched for the cause of the force that hit her. What she saw through the dusty rubble was something she could not comprehend though. There was the armored figure of Ichika, standing as if nothing he had not done a thing. The only incriminating points being him standing in her position and the fact he wasn't vaporized yet.
"What-"
"Clock up.", Ichika slid his finger over his belt again.
"CLOCK UP"
The next moment she knew, Madoka was being tossed around by some force she could not see. No, not something she couldn't see. Something too fast for her to comprehend. Her senses could barely register one sensation before the other, turning all her understanding of the physical world into one blur of nauseating colors and blunted pain. She took one last hit and found herself going through another wall. This time it was a fence made of wood.
"Sorry about the rough treatment.", she could hear Ichika's calm laidback voice. "I heard IS shields were pretty tough so I was giving it all I got." He was moving towards her with measured purposeful steps.
Forget playing with him, the idiot had the ability to somehow be faster than the IS. Faster than even the hyper sensor could detect. Madoka had to change up her game plan or else she might actually end up defeated. She would not end up compromised by her pride like with that sorry cow uddered Autumn!
As soon as she could, Madoka blasted upwards into the sky, intent on utilizing a long ranged bombardment he could not reach.
Ichika watched her rocket towards the sky and read her intent. He shook his head in disapproval. "Uh-uh. Can't have that." He flicked up the legs of the grasshopper gadget resting on his belt buckle and dragged its jointed knee lever all the way over its head. "Rider jump."
"RIDER JUMP!"
Tachyon particles flowed down into Ichika's left foot and he tapped down with it resulting into an incredible leap that resembled flight. His rate of climb was transonic and he overtook the Silent Zephyr in no time.
Ichika shoved the lever back into its default position and the machine declared.
"RIDER KICK!"
"Rider kick.", the armored warrior silently declared as he descended upon Madoka, slack-jawed in shock. His left foot charged with tachyon energies again and it impacted singularly into the field of energy bubble encasing the IS. The jack like mechanism on Ichika's left foot activated and pumped down its own reserve of tachyon particles, overcoming the climbing power of the IS, as the armor diverted everything available to defense and the pair plummeted back down to the Earth.
Luckily they fell to the road instead of a house. Because the impact of their landing cratered the ground beneath them with over twenty tons of force.
Ichika kicked off the shield and gracefully on two feet. He turned around, watching in fascination as the Silent Zephyrs groaned under the deformation it had undergone from the intense impact. He had to hand that Madoka girl credit. She was tenacious.
The IS pilot forced her stolen Silent Zephyrs to move. She could not be beaten here. That would mean capture. She only had the choice of retreat. To be forced into this kind of situation, Madoka couldn't believe it.
"I'm going to have to apologize again.", Ichika grunted as he reached over to the grasshopper gadget on his belt. "but I have to end this now. I kind of need to get home." He pulled up the legs of the gadget partially, just enough to hear it whine with energy. "Onee-san will be home any minute and I can't be missing when she does.", he pushed down the leg lever. "Rider Kick."
"RIDER KICK."
Madoka's eyes widened at the announcement. The same attack that sent her crashing down! She had to get away!
And yet she would not even get the chance to try a retreat.
"Clock up."
"CLOCK UP!"
Everything slowed down to a practical stop. Ichika was the only one who moved normally, everything else had slowed down. Or rather, Ichika had sped up so much that even his perception of the world had made everything seem at a stand still. This was the world of light speed, the world of clock up that Ichika frequented.
He ran over to the Silent Zephyrs and kicked it with his tachyon charged foot. The jack on his left leg pumped in tachyon energy then reset with a fresh charge using the force of the previous kick. He hit the IS again, and again, and again. His left foot unleashing kick after kick like a machine gun without dropping down to the ground once. Energy cackled as the IS barrier buckled and cracked underneath all that force and energy. After innumerable hits the shield finally shattered. Ichika pulled back his foot and gave one last horizontal stomp of his foot which prompted the absolute defense of the Infinite Stratos.
CLOCK OVER
Time returned back to normal once more and the armored Ichika watched Madoka be flung across some stranger's yard after crashing through their wooden fence.
"Well.", Ichika sighed, "That's done." He reached down to undo his transformation, until he heard the police sirens off in the distance. "Urk!", he looked around witha disgruntled expression and just realized how much commotion and property damage they'd just done. "Well crap. Guess I have to clock it up out of here.", he reached with one finger to activate his clock up but then remembered.
He looked over to the prone figure of Madoka Orimura. Orimura...
She wasn't moving and it was likely the police would take her in under the circumstances. Though with her having an IS the military might take custody of her and God knows what they do with a criminal having the equivalent of a thousand nuclear warheads in terms of military value.
Orimura
"Crap.", Ichika palmed his face. He approached the girl and the red grasshopper machine from before sprang out of a wormhole once again. This time it was towing along a second belt that wrapped around Madoka's unconscious form.
"You better appreciate this.", Ichika huffed at Madoka's unconscious body as he primed the belt for the red grasshopper gadget. "I'm breaking waaaaaaaaaaay too many laws for someone who might be family. A lot of international ones too." He snapped on the red machine and waited for the transformation to finish.
"Best birthday- ever", he grumbled sarcastically before carrying Madoka and Clocking Up to make their escape.
I think the core problem I have with this story is that I'm trying to write something I've never done before --something more Superheroey. As a result everything is a lot more exaggerated than what I normally write.
Chien's a b****, no doubt about it, but she seems surreal - don't know if you want her to be like that - like Chifuyu-hype surreal. She's too cold, and too cruel. IF she was real, she'd be in the brig or out of the military altogether :heh:- It's early parts yet. So far I'm writing Chien in the early stages--haven't really fleshed her out yet. I'm also trying to express that she's less an Air Force officer and more of a spook given her background. Again, this is first draft and I'll most likely revisit and put in more details as it goes along.
One other thing, I partly based her personality on Mishima from Kamen Rider Kabuto. Yes. That Mishima. the other part, well...
In this case, the Tech Sgt (E6) could have complained to his superior (a warrant officer or another officer like that would most likely be in charge of the UAVs.) You don't request assets like that. The op may have called for 20 UAVs but those are his UAVs - she's borrowing them. Steamrolling like that would just make things all that much harder for her - unless she's got backup from high up yonder who makes things happen for her regardless. - I think I could probably write that detail into it. In real life, the regular Air Force doesn't just stomp into National Guard territory and take over. I'm trying to express that the Chien's little section of the Twenty-Fifth...is a bit more like the CIA than the regular military.
And once again it definitely reeks of necessary rewrites. Just like I'm trying to flesh out Natasha better. There's this thin line I'm walking between believable and entertaining and I sometimes fall off one end or the other. So feedback is definitely appreciated.
She'd need a General's backing to get some of the stuff done that she wants. 0.o- "Colonel Eiling" ring a bell? I was trying not to be too obvious by changing his rank but I guess it flew over everyone's heads. Might just change that ot "General Eiling" and sneak in a few more believable conversations on just how much power Chien holds over the Twenty-Fifth Air Force. Yeah, will just end up rewriting bits of that.
Chien doesn't seem like the type to go with the 'women are awesome' hype of the IS. In fact, she doesn't seem to care (failed a compatibility test, therefore, she's not considered IS material?) And she naturally hates girls/women like Natasha - beautiful, smiles all the time, things happen for her instead of her making it happen (or so it seems). - I actually was thinking of making Chien a rejected IS pilot but thought that was too cliche and expected. And not appropriate for her character. If anything, Chien sees herself as genderless. Thus the "Killer Robot" feel that Natasha gets from her.
Natasha may not like dealing with her, but she's definitely gotta see that something's wrong with her - Something is VERY wrong with Chien. That much is obvious.
I think we can blame HYDRA Phantom Task for this. :uhoh:- Don't be too obvious yet, Meister. :heh:
Okay, random scenario.
Ichika is in a relationship with Natasha Fairs who invited Ichika to vacation in America and spend some time with her. Ichika being the idiot he is, did not see any problem to Houki, Cecilia, Rin, Charlotte, Laura and Kanzashi tagging along since he thought it was just a vacation.
Now they're at Natasha's grandmother's place who is expecting Natasha's friends because god knows Natasha can't tell her seventy-ish year old grandmother that she's dating a Japanese boy 3/4s her age. What with generations worth of ideals of decency in gap.
Apparently there's a gap in sense of beauty as well because to Natasha's grandmother, Rin and Laura are just too scrawny. Cecilia, Houki, Charlotte and Kanzashi are still slightly harangued for not eating enough and now they are in mashed potato hell.
yeah, not to metion most of the girls in ichika's harem are representativs IS, for all we know they could have secret orders from their governmens, to seduce ichika & have kids with him & ther's a chance that if the kids a boy, he could maybe be able to an IS unit, so that way their countrie could have all the glory, (before they actually started droolingover him)
hey, ichika is the only guy that can pilot an IS unit, & since tabane/other sciencist ain't working on a way to allow other guys to pilot IS units, & chifuyu wo't allow her broher to be a test monkey, we don't even know the reason on why ichika can pilot an IS unit, because Yumizuru won't tell us or give us any hints, & IS units=power, & let me remind u that charl had to pretend to be a dude:frustrated::eyebrow::argue:
Please please please please PLEASE remember that actual representatives and representative cadets are two completely separate things. Ichika's harem are mostly representative cadets/candidates. Thus far only Tatenashi has been the only student confirmed to be a representative. Maybe Natasha, I forgot but I think Iris Calling was considered as her replacement.
There have been too many a rage-gument in the forum merely because of this distinction.
rewrite fic for fate? You mean, my fate/madoka one?
Sacred is on pause until latest chapter of Fate/Madoka is completed.
I mean Prismatic Edge.
... Now remember it, if Izuru ever visited this page, he would have enough fictional materials for two I.S.
I have this stupid scenario: Ichika uses Byakushiki to stop the Chinese and Japanese's fighting over Senkaku islands (No killing, of course). Then, who'll judge him when all is done? The Academy, Japanese Government, or U.N?
It's kind of amusing to have someone who is considered a monster by one side and a traitor by the other.
I thought Natasha was just the pilot of Silvero, which was a unit in development. Wiki says they are both Rep Candidates but since Natasha got the honor of being Silver's test pilot, I think she ranks as the better pilot between herself and Iris.
Oh, then I did remember that wrong. The only one I was sure of was Tatenashi actually. I think Ichika too because they wanted to take advantage of the whole circus freak show thing. Either that or it was just being honored with the ownership of a personal IS.
Well, as good as Maya apparently is, she was just a Rep Candidate and never got higher. Chifuyu, of course, is in a class all on her own. In regards to actual talent and ability, I do think that Tatenashi shows what is expected of a Rep Candidate. For PT, I think Madoka definitely qualifies as a Rep Candidate as does Squall, although for story purposes, I do want to place Squall as being at actual Representative-lvl. I would also place Natasha at Rep lvl as well with Iris Calling being an Alternate rep (for now).
Say, it's funny to think about the individualism that I.S bring forth. One person, with power enough to end a war - or start one herself. Imagine all the prejudice, all the glory, all the distortion it could bring to a human.
Maybe that is Tabane's plan all along: Enjoying her life to the fullest, without giving humanity or even morality a damn. And Chifuyu - or Ichika now, is the martyl that she hopes to spread that idea all over the world.
Made an edit to some parts. I think I'll go with making Chien a little bit more inhuman after all. I guess you could say her belief is that the future of humanity is to become less human.
"Ma'am?" the man stood blankly, not entirely sure if he'd heard right. Despite
Chien being the superior officer she could not simply demand supplies to be
dropped into her lap. He then turned to look for his immediate superior, the
Warrant Officer actually in charge of the UAVs. Arlegui was shocked to see the
other man start to shy away in dread. The Tech Sergeant looked back at Chien.
"Ma'am, you're not serious! You're asking for the impossible. We just got here!"
"The Air Force has no time for excuses or excuse-makers. Get your worthless
carcass back to Texas and out of my sight on the next flight." Chien tonelessly
remarked. The commanding officer's lack of any other response brought the reality
home.
"Captain--"
"They are not your UAVs, Sergeant. They are the Air Force's UAVs. Therefore, they
are General Eiling's UAVs. Thus, they are also MY UAVs." And as an added
sting: "Don't make me shoot you, Arlegui."
Arlegui shuddered at the bone-cold tone of Chien's response. The rest of the aircrew froze
as well, Chien was the kind of officer who was dead serious when making threats.
Everyone in the Twenty-Fifth knew she had General Eiling's full authority on this
mission. Chien could very well pull out a gun and shoot Arlegui right there and
then. And get away scot-free. White as a sheet, the Tech Sergeant turned away and
began packing his gear. A minute later, he left the room.
Also, tryign to work this part into the story but not sure how, as this explains Natasha's relationship with Chien a bit.
The US Air Force 782nd Test and Evaluation Squadron lacked the history of the
Army's 101st Air Assault, being formed by the US Air Force solely to train and
test pilots in the use of the Infinite Stratos exoskeleton. Natasha's job
description was not only to test and fly IS like Silverio Gospel, but to train new
IS pilots. While both the 782nd and Twenty-Fifth were units of Air Combat Command, they
answered to completely different chains of command. Brigadier General Danvers was
Natasha's boss, while Major-General Eiling headed the Twenty-Fifth Air Force.
Eiling was a senior ranked officer, but had no power over the 53rd wing. Likewise,
Chien had no actual authority to get rid of Fairs.
But the opposite was true. Natasha could not simply order the MP to get out of her
way.
ARGH it's all over the place! I'll definitely need to do a mass edit on the final version!
"Wait." Stark was staring at her friend as if she had become a mutant in the
afternoon sun. "Run that by me again."
"Jess Brogan, the new girl? She needs someone to help her pass Professor Pollock's
class." Shay wasn't smiling. "And seeing as you're the genius that keeps aceing
the exams without actually turning up to class..."
"Do I look like a private tutor?"
"Come on, Ange. How often do I ask you for a favor?" Cunningham now scowled. "You
know Pollock's going to eat her alive."
"Then feed her to Poppycock. I don't care." Ange shot Shay a cold look. "I don't
like bimbos."
"Jess is NOT a bimbo. For crying out loud, you don't even know her." Shay
retorted, all the while wondering why Stark was so firmly resisting her request.
Ange normally brushed off requests as boring or too simple, but was unnaturally
adamant about this particular refusal. "Why are you pigeonholing her just because
she's an athlete?"
"Jocks. Cheerleaders. Beauty queens." Ange made rude gestures around her chest
area. "Big boobed blond bimbos with nothing upstairs and a singular desire to get
knocked up in the back of the back seat of the high school quarterback's car."
"Oh for god's sake. Jess isn't like that."
Stark pinched her nose, intentionally giving her voice nasal, grating tone. "Sweet
mary suey wilhemina walker, so pure and innocent at school. Turns into instant
porn queen when buddy macboinkboink takes her home." Ange blew a raspberry. "Nope.
Not my problem. I've got bigger fish to fry after school."
"Let me guess." Cunningham paused and crossed her arms. "This has to do with the
other women that were in your dad's life, right?"
"Are you psychoanalyzing me?" Ange raised an eyebrow. "Cause it sounds like you're
re-living your favorite episode of Oprah right now."
"Well for starters, Jess isn't blonde."
"Well yeah, her hair's more of a Bugs Bunny carroty red color. Probably tastes
like carrot, too." Ange paused as she saw Shay's reaction. "You're doing the
facepalm thing again."
Shay gestured with her hands a minute, trying to find words to explain the
situation. Or at least to keep from just strangling Ange.
"She's a new girl in a new school. She asked me for help, and the only person I
know who's smart enough to help her with this is you." Cunningham paused again,
but Ange did not respond. "Can you at least talk to her?"
Stark shrugged, and there was a bit of malice in her voice. "Oh sure, I can talk
to her. Should I dial my intelligence translator down to ages six and under?"
"ANGE." Shay put her hands on her difficult friend's shoulders and started
gripping. She then calmed down enough to speak normally. "I'm just saying to give
her a chance. I'll let you met her after school at your place, you can decide
then."
Ange's eyes shrunk. There was a clear tone of refusal in her voice, but she
finally relented. "Fine. You can bring her to my place tomorrow. Not
today." Stark crossed her arms. She'd been planning to spend the afternoon
finishing up work on her IS.
"Great. I'll bring her over tomorrow afternoon." Shay then stood back and grinned,
ostenibly to speak to Brogan. "Seriously, Ange. You'll like her."
Just before Cunningham left earshot, Stark yelled: "If she touches my stuff she's
dead!"
Couldn't sleep so plugged in the next part:
(Also, I'm having insomnia-related hallucinations. I swear I hear George R R MArtin going "kekekekeke" in my ear as I'm thinkign of the rest of what I'm writing down)
"Tutor." Ange mumbled as she walked home. She preferred the walk to being
chauffered, as it let her think and conceive of new ideas. And she was in
desperate need of ideas, to get her mind off the responsibility Shay was trying to
foist on her. Aloud: "How am I supposed to create the next step in IS evolution
when I have to tutor an athletic dimwit in obsolete tech concepts?"
Seagulls crowed overhead. Stark swore they were insulting her, then kept walking.
The river could be seen as she strode down, the Pomham Lighthouse and sewage plant
on the other far shore. Ange was at least thankful the sewage smell didn't carry
over to her side of the river. Half-annoyed, half thinking of new ideas, Stark
stopped at the entrance to Swan Point Cemetery. She looked up at the sign a
moment, then walked in. As she had done many times before. The path was well-worn
and familiar as Stark strode over to her grandparents' elaborate mausoleum. She
never liked it, oversized and grandiose it was sitting in the center of the
cemetery. Even in death her family called attention to themselves.
"Hi, Gramps." The girl began, scratching the back of her short brown hair. "I
don't even know what the hell I'm doing here. Hope you don't mind."
It's not like you were around when I was born, she did not add. There was a
rustling of feathers. Not real, Ange knew. The mausoleum played tranquil, heavenly
effects like small singing flutes and harps, and doves flying. No real bird ever
set foot within these walls.
"Cheesy, Gramps. Real cheesy." Ange scoffed. She crossed her arms, more defiant
than morose. "Let's get one thing straight: I'm not here to mourn anybody."
The mausoleum music ended and there was a moment of silence.
"I just needed some peace and quiet for a sec." The real Ange Stark mumbled in a
small voice, away from people. Away from the need to look larger than life. "At
least until I get brainstorm. Or an act of god comes my way."
As if on cue, the fluttering turned into the refrain from a halleluiah chorus.
"Dad always did say you had a sick sense of humor, Gramps." Ange couldn't help
it--she was snickering madly at the change of mood. Stark then took her time
before leaving the mausoleum. There was no hurry, as the school day had ended. All
she wanted now was a little more time to herself, to think through other
configurations for her pet project.
She stopped in her tracks.
A red glint caught her eye, not far from the treeline separating the cemetery from
the riverside. Curious, Ange approached the object. It wasn't a vehicle nor a
gravestone. As she drew closer the object's exact shape became even more
unrecognizable. She was practically standing over it, and its design still did not
register in her technical mind.
What the hell is this? Ange raised an eyebrow, then smiled with recognition
once she realized what she had. Act of God indeed.
"Oh, I can make use of this." Stark pulled up her mobile phone and dialed her home
number. A familiar voice responded, whom she did not give time to finish. "Hey
Eddy, can you bring dad's old pickup truck over? The one with the---no, don't ask
questions! Just drive it over to Gramp's mausoleum!"
Was it red already? :heh:
Remember my prologue section about a red object being shot down and all the craziness going on with the Twenty-Fifth Air Force (the USAF version of the NSA)suddenly swarming all over Rhode Island looking for their lost 'definitely-not-a-drone'?
There's a reason I'm introducing so many military characters in conflict with the Girls Technical School setting. (There is? I thought you just wrote it to work off your insomnia?)
Also, another snippet I'll be putting in and refining later on. Thsi story takes place pretty much immediately after Vol 3's Silverio Gospel incident.
"You were already in Rhode Island." Natasha crossed her arms. "The night that
drone got shot down. Care to tell me why?"
"Classified." Chien started to walk off.
"The old 'neither confirm nor deny' line?" Fairs let her pass, but could not help
the disturbing feelign in her gut. "What are you hiding, Captain Chien?"
Chien stopped in her tracks. "Kettle calling pot black."
Natasha looked back at her. "What?"
"You're the test pilot for Silverio Gospel, as you admitted. An IS designed in
secret with the Israelis, not publicly declared." Chien just stood with her back
to Fairs. "You of all people should know what top secret means."
Fairs was now on the back foot in the argument. Silverio Gospel was indeed a
secret IS project, but that wasn't what Natasha cared about. She was only in it to
fly her beloved machine. "Top secret means not keeping secrets from your allies."
"And you are not my ally, Natasha Fairs." Chien remined motionless. "If you go
rogue again, it'll be the Twenty-Fifth Air Force that will hunt you down."
"Rogue?" Despite herself, Natasha gasped. The incident with her IS was still fresh
in her memory and she took it personally. "That wasn't--"
"A rogue IS is a threat to national security, Captain Fairs." Chien finally turned
to face her. "That means YOU are a threat to national security."
"In what way?" Fairs found it hard to keep her emotions in check.
"You have an overly fond connection with that machine, that's well-known. I find
it highly illogical to belive that it simply went rogue without the pilot's
influence." There was neither malice or regret on Chien's face. Only a cold,
robotic mask that was more inhuman than the IS itself. "A pilot who was in the IS
at the time it went rogue."
"I'm hiding nothing." Natasha hissed, despite trying to keep calm. Bad enough that
Chien was questioning her loyalties. But everything was being investigated.
Natasha knew in her heart of hearts that her Silverio Gospel was not in the wrong,
just a victim of malicious hacking. "You have my word."
"I cannot trust your word, Captain Fairs."
I swear I've got to reel this all in. I'm not exactly writing time-linearly right now, somehting I'll have to fix when this chapter is finalized and put to print. Anyway, the trio is now rounded out.
"She's late." Stark was sitting with fist on chin on her front porch, thinking of
the many things she could be better off doing. Such as completing her work on the
IS she had downstairs. "Didn't you say she was coming WITH you?"
"Don't ask." Shay remained standing but it was clear she was also getting
uncomfortable. Cunningham looked at her watch, wondering how far off the other
girl was. Her foot started tapping. "Where is she?"
"Alright, new plan." Ange stood up. "I vote we tell Eddy to order pizza and we go
into my workshop."
"Ange." Cunningham ran her hands through her hair, half resisting the urge to tear
it all out. She was about to start, when an incoming clattering of sneakers on
street caught her attention. Sure enough, a familiar redhead came tumbling up the
driveway.
"Sorry I'm late! Track training went a little bit longer than I thought." Jesse
caught her breath and chuckled. And stopped when she realized the pair of stares
on her. "You guys weren't waiting long...were you?"
"You're late." Shay and Ange at the same time.
demino_hellsin
It's not that I never thought of it for Ichika and his GARO inspired version's IS. I just thought doing the IS sword scraping against his fist would be retarded as it's a giant IS fist, and Ichika himself wielding an Uchigane blade scraping that hulking thing against his knuckles would also look retarded. So I settled for a bracer instead.
MeisterBabylon
No, Firemoth like the Vandam uses a core fighter delivery system, although, like the Uchikenger uchigane, the Firemoth package Iron Maiden has it built into the Full Package.
Jarvis calls it the Neo Bird Mode but I'm sure Stark has a better idea.
At least in the meisterverse...
Originally, Vandam had a ring storage form. This however was nerfed, making The ring mode instead a storage device for the IS core. Unpacking the is core activates a henshin sequence where Karin changes into her pilot suit and the core becomes a belt device. The rest of the armor is delivered by a separable core fighter drone. The other IS have to be boarded at the carrier. This system was eventually rolled out to the other idols. The Uchikengers mpis were more advanced, and so had it built in. Their Core Changers come in cellphones that double as homing beacons For their armor packages.
Ultimately, MPIS have to be weaker than Personals as per meister rules, just more flexible with Equalizers. Full storage forms is Personal territory imo. I'd make Anges ring a homing beacon and core driver for consistency in my world but you can go with full storage device.
* Cecilia Alcott
Birthday: September 30th, 2048
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Height: 159
Weight: 48
Nationality: English
Description: A mix of all the regalness that come of the Tudor family, and all the roughness originated from the northern highland. Tall, endowed, elegant but not fragile. Two eyes that always stand above the opposite side’s head, which make people feels dwarfed before her. A voice that is properly trained to be the perfect example of an Englishman. However, for some, it’s a bit too high. Especially the hands, ivory fingers that know no hardship of life. However, her right index finger bends a bit due to prolong use of firearms.
Personality: Haughty, sarcastic, arrogant and egotistical – None of the people’s first impressions of her is nice. However, for some that has overcame that façade, they discovered that behind the exterior is a genuinely nice person. Cecilia usually feels insecure of herself – every positive traits of her has a negative side that accompanies it. And above all, her pride feints her to get close to people.
Relationships:
- Ichika Orimura: Cecilia is madly in love with Ichika – he is the only one that she may put her pride aside for. She tries to find ways to be alone with him (often using the excuse that as a gentleman, Ichika must keep his promises or perform duties of the sort), only to be thwarted by her jealous friends. And her jealousness usually brings up fatal consequences for him.
- Houki Shinonono: Best friend, love rival, comrade-in-arms, sister... A bit of everything. At first, Cecilia’s relationship with Houki didn’t go that well, with their personalities and claim of Ichika the biggest obstacle. However, they slowly reconcile with each others because of the realization that they’re very similar. Normally, these two would most likely enter an argument over trivial matters. However, when the time comes, there is none one could trust like the other. Their respective combat doctrines especially make them deathly when combine together.
- Lingyin Huang: If Cecilia and Houki’s similarities push them closer, then her and Rin’s differents serve the opposite. The English and Chinese have somewhat come to an mutual friendship, but they could only tolerate each others - to say the best. In the case of matters relate to Ichika, however, they could put behind all of their dislikes to combine their efforts.
- Charlotte Dunois: Charles’ appearance in the academy raised up a lot of her suspicion, as Cecilia knew full well that there was no children of Laurent Dunois bear that name. After the revelation, it took some time (and a lot of Ichika’s effort) for Cecilia began to trust Charlotte. The bad impression soon came over, and she took the French like a sister, or “under her wings” (in her words).
- Laura Bodewig: Laura has the worst start with Cecilia, as the former openly saying insults of England and intention of killing Ichika. But after the inter-class tournament, Cecilia began to seriously think of the German as a person, to rival, and then friend. Laura is the person who Cecilia usually compare herself to.
- Tatenashi Sarashiki: Secretly, Cecilia is jealous of Tatenashi for her look, regal manner (in some cases), and daringness. However, as Aslar Investment Fund is Murmansk Arms’s major stock holder, these two usually work together. Cecilia hold high respects of Tatenashi’s mind, and conversely, Tatenashi really like Cecilia’s open-mindedness in contrast to her aristocratic status.
- Kanzashi Sarashiki: Cecilia considered Kanzashi as “weak” to stand next to Ichika. However, Cecilia was impressed as with the Japanese's determination to fight for Ichika, and welcomed her as a close confident. Similar to Charlotte and Laura, Cecilia is the one to drag Kanzashi out of her shell. The two especially enjoy a day at the range together.
Any suggestion? I don't think that I've been expanding Cecilia's relationship that much. What is her role in Ichika's circle of friends?
"This is Nagato of FLEET"
Kongou is kneeling in seiza with a smoking meatbun steaming off the top of her head and looking very apologetic. Beside her is the tall form of Nagato, seated in cross-leg and arms across her chest. Haruna is standing behind Kongou massaging Kongou's bruise with a handkerchief while Fubuki and Yuudachi stand erect and rather frightened by the turn of events.
Nagato: I am sorry for my subordinates' rudeness. Let me start from the top again.
As Riselle and Gin, seated at the head of the table as moderators, watch on, Mutsu projects the hologram of a tilted anchor overlying a globe representation of the Pacific Rim from her headset.
Nagato: I am Nagato, Prime of the Fleet. We are born of Coral like yourself, Delegate Kyrios, but have been incubated under Earth water. Our forms were imbibed from the wrecks--
------
Archer: *appears in the room through a subspace portal* Probe Archer, returning from sortie!
Kyrios: Acknowledged. Probe, as you were.
Archer: Uwai~~ *flops her wings up and plops into Kyrios lap*
------
Kyrios: Pardon the intrusion, Prime.
Nagato: ...
Archer: *tilts head cutely*
Maybe Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu- Definitely not. Hiten Mitsurugi has a large focus on battou-jutsu techniques--not practical if you're using an IS sword (that doesn't have a sheath to performt he techniques with)
I should be doing a freezing and Kamen Rider OOO crossover but ended up doing this.
------
Fingertips tapped harshly against the wood of his workdesk. Ichika stared down at the notebook in front of him bearing numbers that made no sense to his brain. Beside his desk were two grasshopper like gadgets play wrestling. How they could do that or why they would do that escaped his knowledge right now. Not that the young man had any attention left to spare to figure those mysteries out.
"You know-"
"Don"t start." Ichika warned.
The sound of sheets shifted behind him and that girl's voice spoke, "I still can't believe that worked."
Ichika blew a heavy sigh and leaned back on his seat. His image the very definition of a lazy individual. "Neither can I."
Really. No one can blame these two for being so flabbergasted at the situation. Though they could do better to have more stupefied expressions to match how they felt. As of now, the pair of would-be-murderer-and-victim were now lounging languidly in the latter's room.
Ichika had some misgivings but he quickly decided to confront his elder sister on whether their family does in fact have a third sibling. It had little to do with the young man's demon drill sergeant of an elder sister catching him at the front door holding an unconcious fourteen-year-old version of herself clad only in an IS piloting suit. Which may we remind the crowd, looks very much like a lewd version of a one piece bathing suit. God. Even a bikini can't hold that level of sex appeal. Not that such things bothered Ichika. That boy's got issues.
Anyway, basically everything went down pretty much how Ichika did not predict. Chifuyu was pretty twitchy the whole time and somehow the self-proclaimed little sister Madoka woke up right in the middle of their conversation. Like literally, Ichika and Chifuyu were speaking with a minor passed out between them then she just suddenly bolted upright.
The three of them ended up talking and Chifuyu admitted that they had a third family member but neither her nor Madoka were forthcoming about the details of their separation. Ichika didn't complain and easily welcomed Madoka into the family, offering her a place in the house if she wanted.
That threw Madoka for a loop and when she sought Chifuyu for a reaction, the elder woman was already rubbing her temples in preparation for the oncoming headache. The eldest Orimura in the room was muttering something about "that look in his eye" and "stubborn idiot."
So now the two of them retreated to the room of a teenaged boy with no particular plan in mind. There wasn't an extra room in the Orimura house for a third person. Ichika would have to share with Madoka because Chifuyu said that there were military and IS related secrets in her room so she couldn't let a freshly turned terrorist like Madoka in yet. Not that there wasn't any trust but those government protocols could have them imprisoned you know. Besides, it's not like the government knows about Madoka being a terrorist, living with them or the fact she even exists.
"How'd you get her to let me stay anyway?", Madoka finally thought to ask. "Earlier, you made it sound like she wears the pants in this family. Does she...", she nudged her head in the direction of the rough-housing gadgets.
Ichika shook his head, "No, she doesn't." He reached towards the corner of his desk and raised a certain pleather bound notebook for Madoka to see. "She may wear the pants in this family, but I have her bank book."
Madoka fixed his back with a flat stare, "You are evil, just evil."
"Thank you.", Ichika yawned with a stretch. "Coming from a terrorist that means a lot."
"Jerk."
"Flat-stuff."
"You never miss a beat don't you?", Madoka fumed at this beloved brother of hers that turned out to be quite the hole.
"Try living as an embittered youth quashed under the immense figure and authority of your elder guardian's thumb and let's see how you turn out."
"Don't start comparing tragic childhoods with me.", Madoka rose with anger.
"Then let's not.", Ichika waved off.
"Aaarrggghh.", Madoka hissed, "You are such an ass."
"Deal with it. Otherwise", Ichika raised one arm to point, "there's the window."
"Window? At least show me the door!"
"You're a terrorist and an IS pilot. I'm pretty sure you don't do doors."
Thunk thunk thunk
The owner of the room sighed as he went back to his work, "Make sure you don't dent my wall with your head."
Thud!
Skiiiiiiiiid
A few minutes pass and Ichika thought that would be the end of their conversation. His new little sister didn't seem to be getting tired of their conversations any time soon though.
"Are you sure it's okay for me to stay here?"
"Of course I am.", Ichika answered confidently as he finally got that stupid integration problem.
"I'm part of a terrorist organization you know?"
Ichika pointed out the window, "Feel free."
"I don't mean that!", Madoka screamed with a thump. "I-", Madoka paused unsure. "I'm part of a terrorist organization."
Ichika was on the verge of solving the next equation when the sound of his scratching pen stopped. He placed it down and turned around to face his little sister who was sitting on his bed on her knees. "Why are you telling me this?"
"To ascertain where we stand in this situation."
Silence passed for a few moments before the elder Orimura nodded, "Okay."
Madoka nodded meekly, "I'm a fairly important member to our organization. The fact I have a personal IS should have told you as much." She paused, waiting for some sort of reaction. When her brother didn't say anything, Madoka continued, "They'll come for me, whether dead or alive they eventually will. And when that time comes, this family will be plunged into a war."
"War huh?", Ichika mumbled as he called one of the grasshopper gadgets to rest on his palms. "That's fine by me."
The terrorist group member shook her head, "It's not that simple. Even with that weird armor, you can't win."
For a simple teen, Ichika suddenly looked years older than his real age would imply. "It's not about winning.", Ichika tossed the gadget grasshopper into the air and caught it after it did a summersault. "In war, there's only one rule." Ichika tossed the gadget in the air and caught it again. He whispered, "survive."
The last thing Madoka saw before darkness overtook her vision was the green grasshopper gadget thrown directly at her face.
When the youngest Orimura finally woke up, she could see a faintly familiar roof.
"Welcome back to the world of the living. How was your stay in hell?"
"You sonnuvabich I could've died!", Madoka seethed at the introduction of a mechanical object to her cranium at high velocities.
Ichika hummed, "Actually you did die. For like- a second? A second and a half?" He shrugged.
"And you sound so casual about all of this. Are you seriously a civilian?"
"Hey, I brought you back didn't I?", Ichika brazenly pointed out.
"Are you serious!?"
"About killing you then resuscitating you? Or having the nerve to do so? 'Cuz the answer is yes to both."
Madoka opened her mouth to argue back but stopped. "You know what? I'm not even gonna argue this. You are way more messed up than I thought you would be. I'll just ask how the heck you did what you say you did and why."
"The why was easy.", Ichika shrugged again. "You were implying a lot of things about your organization taking you back. Yet you never mentioned any details, not even the name of your organization. That means they'll kill you if you release any vital information. The selective nature of your words was also key. Being so vague, I suppose there was someone monitoring your every move. And the how to that was also improbable but not impossible. This place is an enclosed room with one window. If they really want you back then they can snipe me through the window or from anywhere within a few miles spherical radius if IS is involved. That's why I kept my little friends out and about.", he then gestured to the gadget grasshoppers as he explained, "They can keep me safe if anything bad outwardly happens. But I can tell they can't sense any threat. It only stands that they can only watch and kill us through one way: you. Specifically", the elder Orimura tapped his temple, "something installed in your brain."
"...", Madoka swallowed the spit that had gathered in her throat throughout the whole exposition. "Seriously. What the hell kind of civilian are you?", she asked.
"I thought we weren't comparing childhood woes?", Ichika shot back pointedly.
Right. Her words. Madoka backed up on that complaint. "Then what about how?"
"Electric shock.", Ichika summed up simply.
"What?", the victim of said death and revival by electric shock questioned in stupefaction.
"You must've noticed when we thought but these little guys.", Ichika lifted one of the gadgety little critters again. "Can generate some sort of energy charge. So what I had them do was shock your face and hope it disabled whatever was implanted in that head of yours."
"Wait. Hope?", Madoka asked incredelously. "You didn't even know if that would destroy the nanomachines in my brain!?"
...
Ichika condescendingly gestured to her with his hand. "I guess it did."
"SONNUVA-"
"Hey, I may be able to infer a lot of things but I still can't predict the future.", Ichika defended. "I saw the opportunity and my gut told me to take it."
"I still could've died!"
"And I'm sorry!"
"...!"
Ichika huffed, "I'm sorry okay? I couldn't risk it. I couldn't risk letting you hold secrets like that if even the slightest provocation would kill you." The young man then looked away, clearly unused to showing those kinds of emotions.
The receiving party shied away too, for she had never experienced such forceful kindness before. That level of sacrifice and concern that couldn't be refuted with cynicism. Especially when enforced with the ties of blood. "Then it should be thanks... I guess?"
Ichika peeked grumpily in her direction, "Damn right it should be."
"Jerk!", Madoka screamed as she threw a pillow at Ichika's head.
It smacked him square in the face. And it fell, revealing a very annoyed older brother.
"Anyway...", Madoka now began shyly.
Ichika raised a questioning brow. "Anyway...?"
"Now that we're sure no one's watching...", the younger girl started to squirm like a nervous schoolgirl.
The young man sighed, "I think I know where this is going."
"Can you please tell me where you got that armor?"
"No."
Snap.
Ichika fixed his younger sister with an amused stare as she seethed and flustered at the same time. "I'm neither a siscon nor a lolicon so acting like an innocent little sister won't get me to promise things carelessly for you."
"Damn.", Madoka cursed.
"In your words- Anyway.", Ichika stood up and stretched out his numb hip and tailbone areas from sitting too long. "It's about time for bed. I'll go lay out the extra futon for you."
"You're making your little sister sleep on the floor?", Madoka raised a questioning brow at her brother's guardianship methods
Ichika raised an equally epic interrogation brow in reply, "Yes, can't I?"
"It's principle you know? principle!", Madoka ranted angrily hitting the bed with her open palm. "Aren't you ashamed that you're forcing a young girl to sleep on the floor? And you're not even going to offer me some sort of pajamas like a shirt to sleep in? Aren't you disturbed to see a lady half-naked as I am crawling all over your sheets?"
"No, no, no and no.", Ichika replied non-commitally. " But if it makes you feel better then fine. I'll use the futon and get you one of my shirts and shorts. Don't worry, I wear briefs."
"Idiot!", Madoka blushed, "like I care about your taste in underwear!" Then another few seconds before realization set in, "and whaddya mean you aren't disturbed? Does that mean I'm not sexy or something?"
Ichika's grumbling reply was slightly muffled as he searched his closet for suitable nightwear for his sister. "It's not so much you're not sexy as to me having way too much experience than I'm actually comfortable with."
"So you're not?", Madoka asked with slacked jaw.
The young man especially stuck his head out to give his younger sister a disapproving glare. "Of course I am!", Ichika declared indignantly, "It's not like I'm some kind of horndog or anything."
"Then what do you mean by being used to it? Are you hiding stacks of porn around here?", Madoka stuck her head under the bed. Nope, it was clean.
Ichika rolled his eyes, "I wish. Things would be a lot easier if that were the case."
"What is the case?"
He sighed, "You know how I told you that onee-san is pretty violent when it comes to disciplining me?"
Madoka nodded, remembering that clearly to be the elder male's declaration of victory.
"Well sometimes after Chifuyu-nee knocks down a few more beers than she should. She goes into Yobai-mode and tells me how she's sorry about being so violent and wants to make things up to me."
...
...?
...!
...!?
"WHAT THE HELL!?", Madoka exclaimed. You could practically see the proverbial table she was flipping hundreds of times in a single throw right now. "Yobai!? What is this? The boonies? Are you some sort of battered wife?"
"Aha!", Ichika exclaimed when he found a set of clothes he found suitable. "That's enough chit-chat for now.", he tossed the clothes at Madoka, "Go get changed and get to sleep."
"Yobai? Seriously?"
"We've got a busy day tomorrow so we'll need all the shut eye we can get.", and with that Ichika turned the lights off.
"Hey! At least wait till I'm done changing!"
"Zzzzz..."
"Dammiiiiiiiiiit!"
--------------------------------
It's two past midnight. The door to Ichika's room opens and closes with a soft click. The smell of alcohol clings to the body of the intruder clad only in lacy black underwear. The intruder's gait is unsteady but she knows well where her objective is as she swiftly slithers under the covers. Her arms reach out and gently fondle her captive.
"I~chi~ka~", they moan seductively. "I'm s~o so~rry."
Madoka suddenly snaps wide awake feeling her chest and crotch being fondled. She tries to fight back but her assailant is too strong. She tries to catch a glimpse of her molester and comes face to face with a drunken Chifuyu.
'Eeeeeeek!', Madoka screams in her mind.
"Ichika's scent.", Chifuyu sniffs Madoka's borrowed shirt.
Madoka shudders and shoots a glare at Ichika sleeping peacefully on the ground not five feet away.
Was this all that bastard's plan?
Chifuyu then pulled away and whispered in Madoka's ear, "And Ichika's taste." The older female Orimura then, much to Madoka's horror, slowly dove in with puckered lips for a nice sloppy beer stinking deep frenchie.
Oh hell no.
"Get out of my bed!", Madoka kicked the drunkard off.
Hmm... Do you think that Chifuyu is actually a student in the Shinonono's dojo? Houki and her are the only two who two uses Katana in both hands.
* KMD-2.5 Uchigane Nishiki: Result of an attempt to bring the Uchigane series up to modern standard. The developers basically took a blank Uchigane, reduce the area and weight of the armor, installing more boosters and equalizer, while also added some new weapons and a brand-new OS. While the basic plan was laid down, it was never conceptualized as Kuromachi Machinery Development had to focus their resources into KMD-3 Byakushiki. The blueprint only found light of day after in the hands of Kanzashi Tatenashi, who made further enhancements to her personal unit.
- Standby Mode: A small golden ring that Kanzashi wears on her right hand.
- Armaments:
+ Taipu 61 Sentaku Kanō Asarutobatoruraifuru (Type 59 Selectable Assault Battle Rifle):The Type 59 SABR was made to replace the Type 56 and 58’s functions. It has two barrels, each firing the 8.0x72 mm and the 30x110mm airburst (treated with phosphate to burn in contact) rounds. The rifle possess an interesting system, in which the two long-stroke piston working as counterbalancer of each other, thus making the Type 59 can fires from all three barrels at the same time.
+ Taipu 62 Trance:To tackle with the pilots’ negative responses, a new CQC weapon was made, patterned after a Naginata. The Type 62 forsaken the old thermal system, instead opts for an ultra-vibration system, in which the blade became very sharp due to its extremely high oscillation rates. However, the weapon emits an ear-shattering “screech” whenever deployed.
+ Taipu 63 Mountain Storm:48 hi-capability missiles that use a Multi Lock-on System or a manual guided system to engage one or more enemies at once
+ Taipu 64 Shunrai:A plasma cannon that Kazashi herself developed. Using a modified 3S47 Sava (the first ever successful compact plasma weapon) as a frame, Kanzashi decreased its energy consumption, delay between shots and scattered rate. The data from Byakushiki’s is used in the development of this weapon (However, it’s interesting to note that Setsura uses thermal plasma, while Shunrai’s shots are nonthermal.)
- Special Abilities:
+ Ignition Boost: A high velocity charge achieved by absorbing then pressurizing exhaust from thruster inside a nozzle chamber before being released, allowing for acceleration beyond Mach 5.
More planning.
What's the actual specialty of the Shinonono-ryu, I wonder?- Beating the opponent until they're no longer breathing? (runs before Houki can catch up)
So maybe if I remove the sound effects?
The scene basically goes between Ichika trolling Madoka and being a decent brother then back to troll.
Shinonono-ryu was designed for women by a female swordsman. It's not particularly powerful or fast - it seems like more of a novelty. A dangerous novelty. And, according to the 2nd IS manga, it has it's own branch of aikkido as well.
This does fuel my imagination for previous Shinonono priestesses to have also been warriors. Houki does place in the National kendo competitions so she's got to be pretty good.
And no, this doesn't mean that Ichika's naturally 'off-balance' because he trained in a style made by women. Shadow Skill, anyone? :heh:
Plus, considering the connections, I suppose that the sword art also has some kind of religion merit in it - Who know, perhaps the dance itself is a part of it?
Maybe Meister would jump at this...
...Ip Man did well enough with a martial art designed for women and it's still practiced with no drawbacks to either gender until the present.
So maybe if I remove the sound effects?- May work, but as I said it's a matter of flow, when someone reads it. Sound effects are usually used to catch attention and break flow. Usually to change pace or to surprise the reader. If overused it gets hard to readjust consistently back to the story.
And possible story idea for Fireminer, Meister, or Demino:
Sound fine, but Rin'd rather chase after the attacker than protect the target.
(Maybe she has her own secret protector. A descendant of the Jinyiwei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinyiwei), perhaps? I'd like to see that person and Ren face each other).
Say, who is the Armorer in ISA? Maybe her life would quite like this: Inside marine armory/ (http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/02/06/inside-marine-armory/)
Sound fine, but Rin'd rather chase after the attacker than protect the target.- Actually, I was thinking of other characters you could put in that were from China.
(Maybe she has her own secret protector. A descendant of the Jinyiwei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinyiwei), perhaps? I'd like to see that person and Ren face each other).- I've got a few ideas about enemies that <Ren> would face. Many of whom bearing a VERY BIG grudge against her father..
In particular, a group of high-tech mercenaries who dress like a cross between ninjas and military troops, who seem to have a middle eastern background and have hebrew- or arabic-letter codenames. Namely, THESE GUYS:
Anothr update
"So you're telling me we can't even use the mess hall?" Sergeant Canfield growled and glared at the Air Force MP standing in his way. The army sergeant was taller and had a few more pounds of muscle over the MP, but the latter did not budge. In fact, the MP did not even react. Peeved, the Sergeant looked back at Captain Fairs. "Captain, can't you DO something about this guy?"
Natasha frowned. Like the MP standing in their way, Fairs was Air Force, not Army. But she was just as stymied as Canfield about the sudden denial of access and could do nothing. This was unlike Fairs' comandeering of the Army unit. Natasha was part of the 782nd Test and Evaluation Squadron, a unit formed by the US Air Force solely to train and test pilots in the use of the Infinite Stratos exoskeleton. Natasha's job description was not only to test and fly IS like Silverio Gospel, but to train new IS pilots. Sergeant Canfield and his men were part of 101st Airborne, a unit that was historically a paratrooper division but had been changed in the 1960's to Air Assault. Their troops now deployed directly into combat from helicopters and other mechanized air vehicles instead of jumping overhead with parachutes. With the introduction of the Infinite Stratos exoskeleton, it made sense for qualified female members of the 101st to undergo training with the new technology. The 782nd was responsible for running that programme, thus while from differing services there was a great deal of co-operation between the two.
While both the 782nd and Twenty-Fifth were units of Air Combat Command, they answered to completely different chains of command. Brigadier General Danvers was Natasha's boss, while Major-General Eiling headed the Twenty-Fifth Air Force. Eiling was a senior ranked officer, but had no power over the 53rd wing. Likewise, Chien had no actual authority to get rid of Fairs.
But the opposite was true as well. Natasha could not simply order the MP to get out of her way. Fairs looked straight at the guard. The MP still made no movement, even as she frowned back at him. Members of the Twenty-Fifth were not obliged to follow any of her orders. Given that Chien was their commander, Natasha doubted any of them would.
"Sgt. Canfield, let's go." Natasha just donned her sunglasses and turned away. There was nothing more that could be done on-base.
Canfield shot a raised eyebrow back at Fairs, but said little more than a gruff grunt. Giving the MP a middle finger salute, he followed Natasha's lead. For a few seconds he lagged behind to quietly appreciate the blonde pilot's back view, before catching up.
The pair kept walking but said nothing initially, toward the old barracks that Canfield's 506th had temporarily made their home. Fairs stuck her hands in her pockets as she walked, but did not look at Canfield until they were halfway.
"So, sarge," Natasha looked at him. "You're not going to ask?"
"Can I have your phone number, Captain?"
A surprised pause.
Then despite herself, Natasha laughed. Not a girlish little giggle, but a full and hearty womanly laugh that Canfield actually liked.
"Okay, sarge. I was expecting you to ask a lot of questions, but that was totally not one of them." Fairs removed her sunglasses and rubbed tears from her eyes, she was laughing that hard. She was also very thankful for it, as it relieved some of the tension that had been building up. "Thanks."
"You're welcome, Ma'am." Canfield replied, not wanting to admit he was serious. Composing himself, he put on a falsely confident smile. "What were you expecting I'd ask?"
"Well, I thought you'd be annoyed that I'd take command of your squad."
"Yes Ma'am, I was." Canfield gave a glance over his shoulder. "But after seeing your alternatives, I guess we were the better choice."
"Way better pick, sarge. Any day." She then stopped, prompting the Sergeant to stop as well. The look on her facebecame serious. "Two IS of unknown make and origin were over Rhode Island last night. NORAD had no trace of them coming in the radar, neither of them are ours. It was only when they engaged in combat that they put up an alert. The 782nd got the call."
"You said what crashed wasn't an IS."
"It wasn't. It was an Air Force test unit I'm not familiar with. Technically Captain Chien's right, it's none of my business." She looked side to side, ensuring no one else was listening. "But the two IS that were here trying to shoot it down? Definitely my business."
Canfield didn't think of himself as a smart person, but anyone could figure out the obvious. USAF test flights didn't take place over public areas. "What was that test unit doing over Rhode Island, though?"
"No idea." She chucked a thumb at the Twenty-Fifth's temporary HQ at the mess hall "And they sure as hell won't tell me." Natasha bit her lip, bitterly wondering if her hunch was true: That whoever hacked Silverio Gospel's systems and almost caused an international incident the month before was behind this case as well. "No one's raising a stink about it yet, sarge. But when one hand of the air force can't trust the other hand--"
"I hear ya." Canfield nodded. Apart from inter-service rivalries, there were also the occasional spats internally within the Army as well. But usually the many different divisions of the Army would cooperate on operations. Shutting out fellow soldiers who wanted to help was unheard of. Except when intelligence units came into play. While Canfield understood the reasons for those units being so secretive, it didn't engender any trust. "But I wish we could just shove our way back in. I mean for chrissake, it's a mess hall. There's plenty of other places those morons could have set up shop."
"Sounds like you want Iris to handle this."
"Oh god. Don't talk to me about Lieutenant Calling, Ma'am." Canfield put a palm to his now-aching head. Iris Calling was the US Army's best IS pilot, and she was part of the mechanized force of the 101st. The problem was: she knew it. Iris was far too gung-ho guns blazing for even Canfield's liking. He couldn't wait for her to be taken away to test out the new 3rd-Gen IS being developed and out of their hair for at least a while. "I mean that in the best possible way, of course."
"Of course." Natasha nodded. She knew Iris Calling's attitude and bullheadedness all too well. In the distance, she could see and hear three small aircraft taking off. Rhode Island Garrison did not have proper facilities for full-size aircraft, so drones were the only type that could take off from the site. "Looks like Chien's not wasting any time," Fairs muttered openly.
"So what's the game plan, Captain?"
"Game plan is to get what info we've got and work it out separately." Natasha made an odd face. "And maybe drive off-base for some food and coffee."
"Grabbing some chow offbase?" Canfield shrugged welcomingly. "Captain, I don't think the squad's going to complain."
"Besides," she gave Canfield a knowing wink. "The coffee here is horrible."
<--------------->
"Should you really be toying with Government property?" Edmund enquired in his best formal tone. Or at least the best he could manage while helping his charge unload the red object off the truck. The modified pickup truck belonged to Ange's father and was used to haul heavy machinery to and from testing sites. The equipment fit disturbingly well in the truck's cargo compartment. "I don't believe the Army will like appreciate you taking their drone."
"Finders keepers, Eddy. Possession is nine-tenths of the law." Ange wheeled in a heavy lift trolley, the same one from her workshop. Carefully, they moved the machine onto the trolley and started pushing it inside. "And technically it's not a drone. It's a prototype suborbital flight unit. Capable of sudden bursts of speed without any prep time, unlike a conventional rocket."
"Ah. I see." Edmund replied, not having the foggiest notion what Stark was talking about.
"It's not just speed, it's maneuverability at short distances. It can stop and turn on a dime." The trolley came to a stop in Stark's workshop, the few remains of the previous experiment still brushed to one side of the floor. Ange paused: " And if I'm right--and I usually am---I'm looking at a reactionless drive."
"Reactionless drive?" Edmund's ears perked up.
"That's the one. Well, maybe not a completely reactionless drive. Just one that doesn't spit out fire and gas out the other end." A knowing nod. "Of course, after IS tech became the rage nobody really was interested in non-propellant propulsion any longer." She grumbled. "No longer cool enough."
The wheels of the trolley locked once the red machine was at the center, the same place where Ange's previous IS experiment had failed. Stark snapped her fingers, and a pair of wheeled robots rolled in, each with a strange set of arms. The machines stopped next to her, awaiting her next command.
"For all the advancements made in it's development, an IS still propels itself forward the old fashioned way: Using large amounts of thrust. And thus large amounts of propellant, converted to thrust energy." Ange's voice was low, almost a growl. "That's very inefficient. Considering how much energy an IS needs for it's normal systems like life support, processing power, Passive Inertial Canceller and weapons--there's a lot of space allocated to thrust propellant. A lot of them have add-on booster packs solely for additional thrust."
The butler frowned as he looked at the two very obvious thrusters under the wings. "Those look like fairly conventional jet engines to me."
"They would still need normal jets for flying it up in the air for testing," Ange replied, not at all offended. "Besides, everything needs a backup in case it fails."
"I wonder if you will ever took that advice to heart." Edmund quietly replied, remembering the days of pulling the older Mr Stark out of his own failed experiments.
A series of visible blue and green lasers coursed up and down the foreign object, downloading its design and structure into Ange's main computer. The systems were originally set up by her father, but she had made more modern additions to it. The entire Stark family house was wired into the system, but this workshop was Ange's alone. Information was rapidly being searched on the home database as well as related factory databases elsewhere.
"A reactionless drive still needs energy to run. It just doesn't need propellant fuel to produce thrust. I'll need to take this thing apart." Stark raised a hand and gestured. A robotic arm from the left machine responded. Edmund held his breath; on the one hand he felt dissassembling a military device or weapon was dangerous. On the other hand, Ange was probably the only person in the house who knew what to do. "I'll have a better idea once I see how it works."
"I see," Edmund replied. Ange shared that trait with her father, talking about ideas and concepts to an audience. She inherited both genius and the showmanship, and needed to feel in control of what she was doing. Edmund simply did what a butler did, which was to support his young charge. Even if the things she did made him nervous.
Surprisingly, she did not take out tools. The two robotic arms assisted in the removal of the red-colored eternal armor. One held up a piece of burnt armor, which Ange looked at a moment. "Odd. Looks like a high-end particle torch seared this." She then waved at the robot arm to set it apart while she continued to open up the machine. "Contrary to pop culture sy-fy shows, the military and civilian aerospace tend to build these things easy to open up and service." Stark had a smug look on her face when she came to the electronic 'brain' of the machine. "Nobody wants to take a circular saw to their car just to do an oil check."
"That would be rather inconvenient," Edmund replied sarcastically from behind.
Ange did not take notice, coupling a few fiber-optic cables from inside the machine into a serial port receptacle. It was another bit of old technology she kept, more for practical than sentimental value. Data nowadays was relayed through virtual wireless networks, and Ange preferred to keep her info secure. Unhackable. Even as her home computer started sorting out the machine's memories, Stark started work on the main body, which was presumably the engine.
"Bingo." Ange smiled with glee as she looked into the machine's innards. She motioned for the other robot to bring a small camera eye into it. The other robot had switched to a much smaller arm the size of a pair of tweezers, also prying apart some smaller sections in the way. "I knew it. Recycled Palladium for the inner core. The power source." Ange pulled back from the machine, a big grin on her face. By now the robot arms had switched dismantling to the wing-like sections of the machine, exposing some other equipment that looked both new yet strangely familiar to Stark. "Yeah. This thing is perfect for what I need."
"All very well and good, Young Miss." Although he understood some of what she mentioned, Edmund did not pretend to know any of it. In fact, a different question was on his mind: "Can you then explain what it was doing near your Grandfather's grave?
"Simple. She flew home." Stark gave her butler a knowing look and smile. "Dad made this. She came home to meet me."
Having a little bit of trouble. Maybe trying to go full superhero-themed wasn't the best way to go. The story is all over the place and it's hard for me to string it all together, even though I already have an outline. I'm finding dealing with straight up cyberpunk science fiction or military/espionage thriller is easy, but since the Firemoth story and theme revolve around Firemoth's pilot being more of a "Cape" (EG an open up highly visible superhero like Iron Man or Superman as opposed to a darker character like Batman), It's hard. I'm throwing in the military bit because it's the part of the story I'm comfortable with. But the motivations of the main characters is still a very big problem to work through.
The biggest pain is that I can't even ask for advice about how to deliver it because it'll spoil the whole thing. YES IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. And I'm worried that it'll actually fall flat on it's face when it's damn done.
ALSO: Isn't anybody else working on anything right now? :(
Wave: Does this mean the incognito unit (including Iris) in Vol. 9 is temporally called, like the U.S Ranger before 1970s?- No. Most of the first clear illustrations of Iris and Fang Quake show she has US Army markings and tiger stripes. It was my best guess that given Iris' attitude and the way she uses Fang Quake. She doesn't seem to be a helicopter pilot or tank driver, so that left either 101st Air Assault or else 75th Ranger Batallion. (both infantry with light armor and a need to hit fast).
Don't ask too much about US Army Rangers, their history is...convoluted. Mainly because prior to the 1980's, "Rangers" were not permanent units. They were activated and deactivated multiple times--in Vietnam, they went by the name LRRP (Long Range Recon Patrol). No, the 101st Air Assault is a completely different unit.
Later descriptions (Vol 8) say Fang Quake been recolored to Navy Blue. Given the description:
This was to be expected. The 'Unnamed' squad comprised of members
that had no nationality, race, religion or even name, truly 'unnamed'. There
were no records or files indicating they belonged to the American army.
Such a squad couldn't possibly have an emblem - I think it might be a unit comprised of people from different groups both within the military and outside it (Mercenaries?). I'll chalk the confusion up to Izuru not really doing his research, but it sounds like it was probably put together by the CIA-SAD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Activities_Division) to try and snatch the IS core but to also be disavowed if they fail. Also, if Iris was a 75th Ranger (which is not only US Army but part of USSSOCOM--as with most spec ops units they serve two masters), I doubt that SOCOM would let the CIA just take one of their own for a mission. It would be easier for the CIA to go through Army Intelligence and get an IS pilot from a regular unit (101st answers only to the the main Army) and put them on Temporary Active Duty.
A similar (and admittedly much nicer---relatively speaking) case happens in Tom Clancy's book Clear and Present Danger - Ding Chavez first appears in this book, recruited because he can't be traced back to the US Army.
There's also mention here:
She once had a name, a name she long forgotten from the cruel training.
At this point, she was nobody, just a nameless leader of a nameless
squad. That was the woman's entirety. - Brainwashing, probably treading into Bourne Ultimatum or even Ghost in the Shell brain-hacking (via IS control). Because Iris (I'm assuming the pilot of Fang Quake that fought Chifuyu is Iris--haven't read vol 9 yet) seems like a different personality here as opposed to her boisterous personality in Vol 6.
I'll be trying to link all of these into my fics later on--much later on. How is the problem.
The Tiger Force?
Oh, and if they were really a CIA's production, then how the heck did the American get their hand in the scheme of the Academy? The blueprint is easily enough, but the security, the guards,...
Unless they forced it out from the students - does their any rule to forbid graduated to revealing the academy's secrets?
The Tiger Force? - Tiger Force is a task force, it only existed for one purpose, so I doubt it. Tiger Force was formed during the vietnam war. The current unit that was sent to IS academy would have been a task force as well, but a completely different one.
Oh, and if they were really a CIA's production, then how the heck did the American get their hand in the scheme of the Academy? The blueprint is easily enough, but the security, the guards,... - Chloe Chronicle did it, most likely.
